Attention Potter Fans (especially wizard activists)!
I haven’t read the Harry Potter series straight through in YEARS. It’s kind of embarrassing, so I’ve decided to do a full-read through whilst hosting discussions about social issues in Harry Potter and parallels to our world. Discussion will cover (intersectional) feminism, human rights, queer theory (encompassing beyond just LGBT), disability, race/ethnicity, class, animal rights, mental health, and more, and I’d like to invite others to do this critical read-through along with me. We’ll make a video or podcast (still working out the details) of our discussion for each section of reading on a regular/consistent schedule, and then we’ll invite others watching/listening along to continue the discussion in comments or some other format. (Commenters are encouraged read along with us!)

Do the parents of your cousin know that you are autistic? How much do they understand about autism? How supportive are they of you? I think maybe how they respond to your autism could impact on how they would respond to the idea of their own child possibly being autistic?
They know I'm autistic, but I don't have much of a relationship with them. I expect his mother would be offended if anyone suggested her son was autistic though.
Autism Community, I Need Advice
When I first met my little cousin C a couple years ago (now about six years old), I immediately thought he was on the autism spectrum (I'm on it, as is a cousin on the other side of the family who is about the same age as C and behaves similarly). My mother has been babysitting him a lot lately, and she took him to a carnival yesterday. When she was describing his behaviour there, I mentioned that he seems to get really worked up in high stimulus environments, and she said he reminded her of me and agreed that he's probably on the spectrum. He's mentioned to her before that he can't shut out stimuli and that sometimes he can't sleep because he can't turn his brain off, among other spectrum traits I relate to. So, great, he has two extended family members, including his babysitter, who recognise that he has spectrum traits, understand he's still a super cool kid either way, and are happy to accommodate his needs. It would be even more awesome if his mother (and father) were on board, whether or not they use the word "autism," but how do you tell someone their kid is autistic? I don't think we can say "autism" without risking being cut off, even though it's more like a compliment from me than anything. So idk. What can we say/do to help him get the support he needs from his parents without insulting them by saying he's autistic? Help, my autistic friends! Have you ever had to ask for supports/accommodations without saying "autism"? Or tried to tell a friend or family member their kid might be on the spectrum?
Choosing what's right over what's easy would be a whole lot easier if it were at least clear what "right" is. In other words, I am trying very hard to choose right and to act out of love instead of fear, but there is a great, big heap of complicated emotions clouding my judgement right now. I don't even know where to start. I want to ask for advice, but it'd take so long to explain—and I'm not sure even I understand the situation, let alone would be able to explain it. I just know I want to do what's best for everyone involved, no matter how hard it is or how much it hurts me, and I want to be honest. Two simple priorities, and I have no bloody clue how to even do that. Seriously, Dumbledore, you could have been a little less vague.

Los Angeles. Happy to privately give her name to anyone, but in the interest of avoiding stalking (and continuing to feel safe seeing her), I won't post it online. I don't know of any blogs dedicated to good therapists, but I'd be glad to submit a recommendation anonymously.

Not because they know better than you do, but because they've paid attention and actually listened. If you have a shit therapist, fire them and find a better one. Your therapist is supposed to be on your side; if they're not, they're not doing their job. You deserve a therapist who does their job.
Trigger warning: suicidal thoughts
I have a suicide plan. I won't do it if I've told someone because I don't want anyone to feel responsible, so I am telling you, Tumblr. I have a plan, but I will not do it. I also know I don't really want to die, but I feel hopeless and scared right now. I don't need you to send love—I know you want me alive and believe in me. I just need to hold on, to wait, to not give in to the impulse. On a sort of intellectual level, I know things will be okay and that suicide is not the best way to deal with this, but I just feel so overwhelmed right now. I need this to be over. I am scared and want out. I am going to be okay. I am going to be okay. I am going to be okay.

A Pythagorean cup looks like a normal drinking cup, except that the bowl has a central column in it. It was supposedly invented by Pythagoras of Samos (yes, that one). It allows the user to fill the cup with wine up to a certain level. If the user fills only to that level, the imbiber may enjoy a drink in peace. If, however, the user gets greedy, the cup dumps all the wine into the unfortunate victim’s lap.
Pythagoras sounds like a real asshole.
