Outbreak - Chapter 4

Monday morning and Geoff is heading back to the office, possibly due to the sole fact that an email was sent from Jack, saying that he would be in this afternoon. It’d been a week since he’d seen his friend and he was concerned about him. There were no updates, no words spoken about him and the AH Office was starting to get a little hectic. Lindsay had taken his place during the Let’s Plays and Go!’s, and while the fans were happy to see her, there were a few comments about Jack and where he was. They went unanswered, of course, but Geoff still couldn’t shake from his head what happened. He could feel a small headache starting up, possibly from lack of sleep or maybe even just the basic information drop he’d done, but either way he would take some medicine when he got into the office.

As he pulled into his spot and headed into the building, a set of wings greeted him and he stepped off. “Grif, I thought you weren’t—oh, my god.”

Matt turned and shook his head at Geoff, who covered his mouth with a hand, his face turning red. “Don’t even, Geoff. Please don’t, I already have to deal with Burnie about it.”

“But…”

“Don’t.”

“Please? Just like, two things?”

Matt hung his head and huffed. “Fine. You have thirty seconds.”

“I’m holding on.”  [Looks out onto the kingdom’s lands and sighs]  “I’m still worried about everything, but it’s masked by the time that I’m here.”  [Glances out of the corner of his eye to the King]  “Though, I am forever grateful for you.”

[ Smiles. ] “It’s in the past now, what happened. You’re here, not there. The unease slipped as the weeks went on, but my guards still patrol. Just in case.” [ Sits up straight, setting a hand on Jack’s shoulder. ]  “You’re welcome. No matter how many times you thank me.”

“I probably will thank you every day, to be quite honest.”  [Sees the hand on his shoulder and takes it into his own]  “I’m here.  And I’m not going to leave.”

[ Hums, looking up to the sky. ] “I would love the company, thank you. Please,” [ Raises his hands to either side of him. ] “Choose your side.”

[Smiles and adjusts his tunic before sitting on his left, leaning back]  “How have you been fairing?”

[ Sits up on his elbows. ] “Well enough. I’m just glad it’s the summer months. Maybe not the best time to have a suit in black, but.” [ Shrugs, chuckling softly, looking to Jack. ] “Overall, I am well…. and yourself, Jack?”

Michael didn’t even hesitate to resurface immediately when he saw the thing climbing up the side. Especially with what he had in his hands. He was practically already there waiting for him by the time he spoke. Michael let his eyes briefly fall from the others face to look at the food held in his hands. Licking his lips instinctively at the mouth watering sight, a sight he has been starved of for way too long. Seaweed. The memories of the other day pushed to the back of his mind when he saw the friendly face.

Although when the thing pointed out that the poor defenseless fish he held were food, that’s when Michael scoffed. “I don’t eat fucking fish, genius. That’s like you eating one of those scientists. I’m not one for that.” He pointed out, tail cutting through the water to glide him closer to where the other stood. For some reason, finding it way easier to approach the other now. He raised even higher out of the water as he got closer, now showing his collarbone as he floated there.

“Oh.”  Treats fish as if he were one.  Won’t eat them.

Jack removed the fish and set it by his feet, more than likely going to throw it away and handed the seaweed to the creature---Michael (he really needed to work on that, calling him by his name instead of by what he was to them) before stepping back to give him room.  It shouldn’t have been that way, but he knew better than to get any closer.  He tilted his head, his eyes catching the skin at his collarbones and smiled.

A shade of fire, though cooled and sparkling with the droplets of water reflecting off.  The scientist wanted to lean closer to get a better look, but the last time he had he’d gotten splashed.  Water, not so much fun.  Instead, Jack sat back on the catwalk, cross-legged and watched him.  “So...what do you eat?  The seaweed?”

“Good afternoon, Your Majesty.”  [Smiles and bows his head]  “Would you care for some company?”

[ Hums, looking up to the sky. ] “I would love the company, thank you. Please,” [ Raises his hands to either side of him. ] “Choose your side.”

The Georgian moved to stand as well when he was pushed to his feet, then he grinned happily at Jack’s words and crossed over to the couch, plopping down on it.

He didn’t really have much of a choice now, did he?  With work put on hold, Jack moved and sat beside him, making himself comfortable int he corner before letting Ryan lean on him.

“There we go, all cuddled and warm.  You want a blanket and some warm milk?”

Ryan groaned and hid his face in Jack’s shoulder.            “Why do you always make me admit things?” He complained, then he huffed and pulled back slightly to look at Jack.         “I dunno, I just… Fuck man, I’ve been feeling shitty         lately and just want someone to cuddle with, and       you’re the perfect choice.”

Well, that was certainly something.  With a shrug, he pushed Ryan back up off his shoulder and stood, nodding to the couch in the corner.  “Come on, then.  Beardo the cuddle buddy, at your service.”

"So Jack, Uh, we gonna just try to be friends again?"

[Glances up at him, pausing for a moment before nodding]

“Yeah…yeah, friends is good.”

“Okay, cause I don’t like the silence between us and I know it may be hard, but thanks.”

[Smiles and runs a hand through his hair]

“Yeah, it was starting to get a little awkward with the office and everything.”

“Cool.”

And almost instantly, Jack is out like a light.  A few minutes later, he’s snoring gently and twitching in his sleep, but it wasn’t anything to be concerned about.  A few rough nights here and there, the Gent was getting more and more out of the office and into the charities, the out of town gigs.  The jet lag was starting to catch up with him, unfortunately and he needed to get sleep.  He also needed to keep up with work and eat but hey, those things could come later.

An hour passes and Jack is still out cold, now curled up on the couch with the large AH pillow under his head.

It’s just the sound of clicking and the occasional taps of keystrokes that fill the room, background music to Jack’s soft snoring. The editing is easy- he’s used to the standards set by Rooster Teeth- and by extension Achievement Hunter by now, and it’s just a point of the actual work. Jeremy knows how hard Jack works; word gets around quickly. Plus, you only have to take a look at the guy to see. But it’s not like it’s taking any skin of Jeremy’s back to lend a hand. In fact, by the time the hour’s out, he’s basically finished.

Looking over, he smiles, and lets the older man sleep, poking around in the root folder, and finding another set of clips in need of editing. Well, since he’s here… Might as well.

Jack stirs a little, taking a deep breath before blinking his eyes open.  A little disoriented, but he soon figures out where he was.  The office, on the couch with Jeremy sitting as his desk and continuing to edit videos.  Though, the picture on the screen wasn’t the one that he had started on.  How long was he out?  Pulling his phone out, he pressed the home button and saw the time.

Two hours.

“Jeremy!”

»“I should have figured. And of course he said that- it can’t be sudden and out of nowhere, or people would get suspicious. Doesn’t mean I wasn’t involved”.

Geoff watches as Jack moves, and sighs. Maybe he should go back to not being seen. It’d probably be a hell of a lot easier at this point. But at least for now, at least Jack has someone to talk to. Hell, it’s more than he’s had recently. The guy needs some more friends- he wonders if Burnie is still watching over that actor guy. Might be time to call in a favor. Eventually, Jack will see the truth. There’s no avoiding it- Geoff’s an Angel, he’s helping, and it’s as real as the sun on his face or the earth under his feet.

At least Jack has good taste in beer. As he’s brushed off, he decides maybe it’s better to let Jack cool off for a while. Quietly, he fades out of view, and gets back to work. Okay. Maybe it hurts just a little. He does care, after all. And Geoff’s trying really hard. But he’s too proud and strong headed to admit that any time soon. It’s all part of the job, after all. It’s all he can do to watch, keep an eye on Jack, and when he goes to bed, settle next to his bed, and try his hardest to keep the darkness away.

»“…Not so lucky, I’m afraid”, he whispers into the silence, brushing back red hair, and focusing his efforts on combating the bad dreams.

Everything was dark, blurred past the point of recognition and Jack was trying to get free.  Chains bound him and he could feel someone pulling against him to drag him back down to the depths.  Voice surrounded him, telling him he was too weak to fight; that even now he couldn’t make anything of himself.  He had grown too tired of pulling that his knees gave out, the figure in the shadows starting to drag him back.

Then, a light in front of him burst.  For a brief second he saw someone standing above him.  He’d never seen a figure here before, but they weren’t someone he initially recognized.  Jack had to shield his eyes and as he did, he awoke.

He gasped, sitting up from his sleep and took a few quick, shallow breaths.  It was just a nightmare, one of the few that were reoccurring but it’d changed.  Who was that at the end, and why hadn’t they come before?  Jack looked around the room, no sign of the man he’d seen before and relaxed a little.  At least he didn’t have to worry about snooping around.  After checking his phone for the time, he grumbled and figured being an hour early wouldn’t be too bad.  As he got out of bed, the Gent went to the bathroom to shower, thinking.

Blue eyes glared up at the ginger slightly, then he huffed and shrugged.          “Yeah well… I have an excuse.”

“Really?  You have an excuse as to why you’re sounding like the British Idiot?”  His eyes traveled to his desk mates’ and he smirked.

“Enlighten me.”

“I just… Ugh, I dunno, I never do this  anyway, so I feel entitled to whine  for once.” He said, meeting Jack’s gaze.

He raised a brow at the Gent.  “So, because you never whine you’re entitled to it now?  Like, are you sure you’re not Gavin right now?”  Jack grinned.
