Despite all the compassion and nuance vince and co. wrote into his character, a lot of people still really can't perceive him as anything other than one or more of the following:

cartel member

potential rapist/murderer/child kidnapper

military guy with dark past

homophobe

religious fanatic

Basically the whole bag of horrors when it comes to Latin American stereotypes.

Pointing this out does not (and should not) diminish the misogyny flung at Carol's character, but thanks, Pluribus fandom for powerscaling oppression. Totally what I'm sure the showrunners wanted to us to take away from the narrative.
