Diamond Penthouse in Tribeca

Work AC designed the headquarters building for Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) Studio, a fashion design company, in a new, six-story structure built behind two landmarked facades in New York City’s Meatpacking District. The building houses the company’s flagship store, a flexible showroom/event space, design and administrative offices for a 150-person staff, an executive suite, and a private penthouse apartment.

The project’s diverse program is unified through a singular iconic gesture: a stairway that collects and distributes light from the roof through to the deepest interior parts of the building. This shaft of light is conceived of as an inhabitable and connective “stairdelier” – a cross between stair and chandelier – that cuts diagonally up from the ground floor to the “diamond”, a faceted glass penthouse at the roof.

Stamp Residence in Australia Gathers Attention for Supposedly Looking Like the Millennium Falcon

According to a recent Daily Mail article this four-bedroom residence in Queensland, Australia, has attracted comparisons to the iconic Star Wars spaceship with the battleship grey color and shape of the home bearing a stark resemblance Han Solo’s legendary craft. 

The Stamp House by Charles Wright Architects conceptual framework was simple, as described by the architects:

A safe and secure off-grid structure, carbon neutral in operation, as luxury retreat & sanctuary – an enigmatic bunker. A new tropical architecture of resilience, both brutal and elegant. We liked the idea that the concrete over time will age well and feature a ‘patina’ further enhancing its sense of place in the sited environment.

Critical to our approach was in developing new ways of living in tropical latitude, by providing secure yet flexible open areas for all functions including living, entertaining, dining, recreation & swimming, which are completely naturally ventilated and further enhanced with integrated building systems. These flexible main living areas oscillate around the feature central pool & landscaped courtyard, complemented with cascading waterfall features which further provides an evaporative cooling effect to both levels in the drier months. Bedrooms are designed so that each has a particular character by virtue of its orientation and unique aspect at the same time providing privacy. The undercroft houses utility areas for plant equipment.
