The very same and yes, she does, as well as a left and then the right again for good measure, all while I was drunk and handcuffed to a dumpster. He lets out a frustrated huff, shaking his head slightly. See, I wanted to try the colours as I hadn’t before. Caelum was quite relaxing, I would do that again. I seem to remember you mentioning something to that effect. You would change your tune if I took the sunglasses off. He closes his eyes behind the sunglasses for a moment when Nat kisses his cheek, just enjoying the affection for a couple seconds before he pulls away slowly. I believe you mentioned Scotch? We should get to drinking that, so it doesn’t go to waste.
Well that’s hardly fair. You should press charges. Nat sighs. Alright, the colours it is, but we’re doing it somewhere that isn’t all dark red, I’m making that a rule. Maybe if I was shallow and an asshole. But thankfully I’m neither. It’s not like I haven’t seen myself in the mirror with a shiner on a number of occasions. I can guess what it looks like. You’re still you. Nat lets him pull away reluctantly. He pulls the bottle out of his jacket pocket. Okay, but you have to sit down, preferably on my lap, otherwise I’m just gonna spend the whole time fretting and not enjoy it. Really, I’m just being selfish. He winks to show he’s joking.
I might have, yes. In fact, I drugged two, but Shaw either never figured it out or doesn’t care. Whitman, on the other hand, had a very big problem with it. He smiles a little at Nat’s offer. We can just get high together, then, and amuse ourselves that way, I’m sure that will be enough for me. He lets Nat pull him closer, still somewhat turned away, though notices Nat making a show of closing his eyes. He shivers slightly when Nat’s fingers move over his neck, though pauses at the way he ends the sentence. Not that he hasn’t heard that from Nat before but it also makes him a little tense. Yes, I suppose I am still that, though the intensely vain part is why I don’t want you to see me like this. He slides his arms around Nat and carefully rests his head against his shoulder. He’s sure it’ll lead to sex later so he can allow the affection. Cal’s gotten bad at stopping himself where Nat and Ismay are concerned anyway.
Oh man, Whitman? The one with the glare and that look that makes you feel like she weighed you and found you wanting? She must have a mean right hook. Nat nods, smiling. Sure. Just not the ones with the colours. That one was a little rough. Though your eyes felt like rain. I liked that. And they tasted like sea salt. Cal seems to gradually accept the whole being held thing, though Nat can feel him tense at the l-word. He reminds himself not to use it unnecessarily. Well, I’ve got my eyes closed, but from what I remember, you still looked beautiful to me. Just a little busted up. Like the Venus de Milo. Cal hugs him and Nat strokes his hair, kissing his cheek where he’s unbruised.
At least Nat closes the door, that’s something. It also makes it harder to see but he doesn’t really want to show Nat the extent of what his face looks like now. Your powers of deduction are exceptional. It’s a little wry but mostly just quiet, still sort of half turned away from Nat so he won’t look at him too closely. Closer to the second, but I’d advise against returning the favour since it was a Joker. If I ever get it into my head to drug people without their permission again, stop me. He doesn’t pull away when Nat touches his hip, setting a hand on his arm gently, though still doesn’t face him fully. You’d have to see it to do that and I’d rather you didn’t. See it, that is.
Cal’s avoiding letting him see his face, and Nat’s torn between frustrated concern and affection. You drugged a Joker? He raises his eyebrows before nodding. Promise. You can just drug me instead, with my permission. I promise to be amusing enough for ten people. He slowly pulls Cal closer to him but doesn’t try to turn him to face Nat. Okay. Nat makes a show of closing his eyes and putting his hand out to locate Cal’s chest and slowly feel up his neck, stopping at his jaw. Still feels like the same intensely vain, arrogant, pain in the ass thief I know and love. He pauses at the word choice.
Nat peers in but Cal doesn’t really open the door any wider. For once he wants to stay out of sight. I said nothing of the sort. Of course I’ll help you drink it. Though he’s not sure he can do that without…Nat nudges the door open and notices Cal’s lip and comes all the way in. I’m more or less fine I just can’t be seen in public for a while. He grabs Nat’s hand and gently pushes it away so he doesn’t pull the sunglasses off, turning away a little.
Nat closes the door behind him since Cal doesn’t want to be seen in public, but he’s still focused on figuring out what happened. He lets his hand drop but studies him instead. Your nose is swollen, your lip’s busted, and I’m betting you’ve got a shiner behind there. Cal, darlin’, tell me what happened. If you just got caught by someone’s spouse, I’m sorry. If someone jumped you in an alley, tell me who they are and I’ll go return the favour with interest. He tentatively puts a hand on Cal’s hip. Lemme kiss it better.
Cal hears the knock Nat’s voice since he was lying on the couch icing his face. He’s been hiding in his house since his run in with the Joker, due to his unsightly black eye, slightly swollen nose and busted lip. He puts down the bag of frozen vegetables he’d been holding to his face and glances in a mirror, wincing at what he sees. He finds a pair of sunglasses to settle over his eyes before he opens the door a little, leaning against the frame, casually. I can always count on you to make certain I don’t stay sober too long, though I think you underestimate the vast stores of alcohol I keep here.
Nat hears Cal before he sees him and peers into the crack in the door. It’s shadowy, and Cal’s wearing sunglasses indoors. Also, he’s not preening and showing off, or glowering at him. Bad signs. Well then, I’m happy to drink the scotch myself, if you don’t want it. He nudges the door open farther with his foot. Cal, someone busted your lip. . . He’s concerned and finally just pushes the door open. What happened to you? Are you okay? Reaching out, he gently tries to take off Cal’s sunglasses.
Nat approaches Cal’s house, a little warily, since he hasn’t seen Cal since he climbed out Nat’s window and Nat’s not entirely sure if they’re at that point where he’s allowed to just stop by. Still, he knocks. Cal, c’mon, I know you’re in there. I brought scotch. You haven’t been out drinking in so long, you’re dangerously close to sobriety.
Because its good exercise and its fun and it means- she stops abruptly with a hoarse laugh. We’re. Here. Pointing over her shoulder at his residence. Or were you not serious about taking me home and giving me the grand tour? I’ve only ever seen your shower and the bedroom, not that I remember much about it. I think there might have been a bed in there but who knows.
Nat observes it and pretends to think about it. I dunno, not sure if I cleaned up the last time I was home. Still, I suppose I could show you in. But you’re sick, so . . . Nat scoops her up and carries her, despite any protests, up the porch.
Nope, you’re a dude, you don’t need a shirt and I have plenty of weap- on second thought, grab the knives. Colette’s brow furrows. No, I have my own set, why would I need yours?
Nat shakes his head, still pulling his shirt on and grabbing the knives before following. Well, I don’t know, but it’s missing and I want it back. If you don’t have it, either Wolf’s buried it somewhere, or Cal borrowed it because it’s shiny and he could see his reflection in it.
Do you think he knew? The Red King, I mean… though I suppose I’m also curious about my actual father. She glances at him, looking like she’s seriously considering that last statement, even though she would probably normally dismiss it as a joke. What? No, he- he couldn’t be… Right?
Nat thinks about the question for a moment. If he did, I don’t think he cared. The king, I mean. He never treated you any different from Addy. As for your dad . . . he hesitates. It’s hard to say. He shakes his head. No, I’m sure he isn’t. He’s dead, remember? I was just being an ass, sorry. Just remember, you had a dad. He wasn’t anywhere near perfect, but he was yours. Don’t feel like because of this, that goes away.
Fair enough. Do you? Hmm, I’m not sure I’d use the word excel, not for all of them. I mean, you’re not bad, but excel seems like a strong word. As for that, well, you are clearly just a very very long moment of weakness on my part. Dangerously permanent. Nat smiles affectonately when Cal says he’s special and leans in to kiss him once gently. I don’t let just anyone climb in my windows either. Not and live. Next time knock first and I’ll let you in without all the knifeplay. Hmm, possibly, but I definitely didn’t make this up. I swear on my mother’s grave. Nat smiles more broadly. Good. I intend to follow through on it. He chews his lip in disappointment but nods, kissing Cal with a hand on his cheek before feeling him pull away. Nat sits up and digs around, locating his underwear and finding Cal’s as well, waving it. Found something of yours.
Excel is most certainly not a strong word and I’m offended that you think so. Have I not shown how much I excel at various endeavours? Oh yes, clearly just an extended moment of weakness. I’d hate to think you might ever get stronger in that regard. He kisses back and smirks at the comment about knifeplay. Or I won’t knock because I enjoyed it. He waggles his eyebrows, eyes glittering. Though he didn’t actually like being cut or anything that could result in serious injury like that but it was too good an opportunity to pass up. I still find it difficult to believe that I talk in my sleep but I suppose you wouldn’t make such an oath without meaning it. Unless your mother is still alive, in which case it’s meaningless. You better. Cal starts gathering up his clothing and chuckles when Nat waves his underwear. So you have. He walks over and plucks them out of his hand then puts them on and proceeds to get dressed completely. He glances in the mirror and makes a face at the state of his hair, rifling through Nat’s things until he finds a comb and spends some time getting it into an acceptable, much less bedhead style. That finished, he’s finally ready to go but walks over to Nat and kisses him for a long moment, pulling back and smiling. Until next time, dearest Nathaniel. He winks and pulls away then naturally leaves through the window just as he’d entered through the window.
He chuckles. Nat, I’ll swear right now, on our friendship that I won’t name anything else that’s living after puns. I might name chemicals after puns. If you wanted I could start talking about swans, as I seem to recall.
That’s a relief. I worry about the dead though. Do you name the dead a lot? Please don’t, no one wants to roll their eyes while they’re high. You could, and I could find out what happens when you launch a ferret at someone’s face. I feel like it could be an interesting experiment.
