“Well I mean… ” he lets out a breath unsure how to say what he thought. Sure O knew who her mother was but did she really know the extent of what the Queen did? “I suppose there’s a possibility that this portal exists but there’s also the possibility that she’s just telling you this to avoid telling you the truth. Like, say that she got bored with your real dad and…” he trails off with a shrug. “Not that I’m in any way saying that’s what she’s doing it’s just a thought“

O nods. “Yeah, I suppose that’s possible.” She wouldn’t put it past her mother to do exactly what Jude was insinuating she might’ve, though she would also much prefer not to think her own mother might’ve had her father disposed of. The mysterious circumstances behind the king’s disappearance certainly only added credence to that theory. “I shouldn’t have met with her-- it hasn’t done any good.”

Theo is aware that any advice he gives to Ophelia right now is directly against the Red Queen, and therefore dangerous to give. he knows this, but there’s no one around to over heard them and he’s in good standing for the Red Knight as well as with Baxter. Theo can afford to take a risk here. “Some might tell you to go about your life disregarding the destructive wants of the people who are influencing your life negatively. Other’s might tell you to drown the pain and the hurt of everything with chemicals. Another option would be to act out and become a Flower and not just the accountant. An even simpler option would be to just act like your happy. To pretend. To make her think that she’s not getting to you.” Theo sighs through his noes thinking of his own complicated situation with a woman and feelings. “Now I’d nevers suggest that all of those are good plans, or that you should take that advice. It’s just something to think about.”

O glances up at him as he lists suggestions on how to deal with her situation. She doesn’t find any of them quite so appealing, if she’s being honest, but she also doesn’t know what other options she possibly even has, other than just moping about as she was. “If you don’t think those are good plans, then why suggest them?” she questions in a genuinely curious, non-accusatory tone. She could ask what advice he thought she should take, but she had a feeling he, like most people, wouldn’t have an answer to that question.

“Well then, maybe we should find that secret passage to Elsewhere and go. You look like you could use a vacation.” He says it in jest but- no there was no passage way. It was yet another power play on the part of one of the Queens.

“That’s honestly not half-bad an idea...” O replies quietly, a bit jokingly but also not entirely so. If it were possible to leave the City, would she? She thought she would, and not just for a vacation either. Then again, it was possible Elsewhere was even worse. “You don’t think it actually exists do you?” she questions, not knowing whether she believes it or not yet, and continuing by voicing the other question that’s been constantly winding through her head, “Why would my mother tell me about this?”

“So people could go back home… I mean people have tried but never sucedded- Unless of course thats a powerplay on the Queens part. If people knew they could leave the insanity why would they stay then who would they rule over right?” Jude shrugs He really had no idea, they were all just wild guesses and assumptions though he wouldnt put it past either one of the Queens to hide a secret passage between the City and Elsewhere.

“Right.” Ophelia had never told anyone the real reason she’d finally run away from the palace; about what she’d somewhat accidentally unearthed while trying to look into her father’s-- or rather, the king’s-- disappearance. She debates sharing it for a second, but decides against it, sighing and resting her head against his shoulder instead and taking a deep breath to try to ground herself, “I’m tired of all this.”

He stretches his begs out in front of himself, taking in her words. “That might not be the worst thing. If she’s content with what she got out of your talk then let her be content. There are worse ways she could be than content. Try not to lament something that hasn’t happened. It won’t do you any good.”

“Except she’s only content because I’m not,” Ophelia points out, sighing and burying her face in her hands, her elbows resting on her knees.

Combing her hair over her shoulder he presses a gentle kiss to the side of her neck before resting his head on her shoulder as she speaks. Lazily playing with a strand of her hair he lets a moment pass before breaking silence “And you believe her?”

“I don’t know,” Ophelia shrugs, glancing at him, “I don’t want to. I wish I could tell that she’s just lying... But what if it’s true?”

O sighs, leaning into his touch and then resting her head on his shoulder. “Not really.“ She didn’t want to worry him with the fact that her mother had made a thinly veiled threat towards him. After a moment of silence, she finally sighs. “Do you think it’s possible to return to Elsewhere?”

There was obviously something up and he wished she’d tell him but he wasn’t going to push it. Content to be a shoulder to lean on he lets his mind start to wander to what could have gone down with the queen till she speaks. 

“Go back?” He’d honestly never given it much thought. Perhaps because he’d been born and raised in the City. “I mean if there’s a way in there should be a way out I guess…” The way he’s standing isn’t all to comfortable anymore so curling a finger under her chin he props it up so he can stand and kisses her. Taking her other hand he helps her up from her chair so he can sit down and pull her onto his lap. “So why do you ask?”

O watches him silently for a moment as she considers what he said. He had a point that it was possible, but she didn't want to believe that it was. She'd rather believe her real father was truly dead and gone than cling to the hope that he'd somehow escaped and she'd someday be able to meet him. It wasn't like it was unlike her mother to lie in order to play mind tricks on her. She finally speaks up, after a moment's hesitation, once she's comfortably in position on his lap. "My mother said my father returned to Elsewhere."

Yeah, I’m overjoyed to have met with my mother.

“I can see that. Guess she didn't get you the pony she’d promised you.” Coming closer he kisses her forehead “Wanna talk about it?”

It’s a bit too late for that, O sighs. She could’ve used that advice a long while ago, so she might’ve just avoided falling for anyone and wouldn’t have given her mother the perfect ammunition to control her with.

O shakes her head. "Oh no, not him. It's just... complicated, with my mother and all that," she shrugs and sighs.

“Someone might not be actively trying to kill you at the moment but that doesn’t mean that that can’t change. Which means you’re stuck with me unless of course, you become Queen and then fire me.”

“Trust me I wasn't trying to get the 4-1-1 on your sex life. I just happened to see the two of you going into your room. You gave yourself away just now.” Giving her a shit eating grin.

Ophelia can feel her cheeks burning bright pink. “I--You...  That’s still none of your business. And you shouldn’t even be talking to me about this right now.”

Rowan rolls his eyes at her desperation to deny the fact that she was indeed a princess and whether she wanted to admit it or not she was in a sense spoiled. Growing up in a palace with staff at her beck and call she hadn’t really had it hard growing up. “No matter who likes you there is always someone out there that doesn’t. Its not even always a personal issue but you’re bad for certain businesses in the City. Wow… mature. Really proving the ‘I’m not a spoiled princes’s statement aren’t we.”

Snorting at her look of horror he just rungs his fingers through his hair “Which is why I wasn’t in the room. Did you hit your head or something?”

Aren’t you the one who just said that no one’s trying to assassinate me? O replies a bit snarkily. I’m not bad for anyone’s business, because I keep out of everyone’s business. As he points out she sounds like a spoiled princess, she frowns. It’s only the truth. You don’t make my life any easier, so why should I make yours any easier? She gives him another sharp look at his next comment. Just because you weren’t in the room doesn’t mean you’re giving me enough space.

If thats what you think I do. Look my dream was never to hang out at the Garden every day to see what a spoiled princess does with her so called freedom, especially since no one is actually trying to assassinate you. I’m slightly over qualified. But I suck up and deal with it cause it’s my job. I suggest you figure out a way to do the same. Besides I give you space. Did you see me in the room with you when you became a woman.“ Just saying makes Rowan cringe and he has to shake the thought from his mind.

Stop calling me a spoiled princess-- I’m neither of those things. Of course no one is trying to assassinate me seeing as people generally like me, a feeling I’m sure my mother will never understand. And I don’t care what she’s told you your job is, it’s not my job to suck it up and deal with you. O gives him a sharp look at his last comment, annoyed but also a bit horrified he even knew. That’s none of your business.
