Dwight didn’t like the idea of Daniel staying but he couldn’t argue against it either. He had a good point. They were both healthy and it would be easier to get Jake and Meg out if there was two of them making sure they wouldn’t get hurt further. “Yeah, okay.” He muttered, getting ready to cover his friends. “But the second they are out of that gate, we’re leaving too. I’m not taking no for an answer.” He kept his tone stern, keeping his focused look at the trio that kept coming closer by every passing second. The Athlete ran straight past them without looking back. It was easy for her to escape the killer’s grasp given how fast she was. Jake wasn’t as fortunate though and had gotten hit as he ran towards the open gates. Out of instinct Dwight moved behind him, defending the man with his now shaking body. Moving his head towads their last teammate, he gestured him to move too.

[ Oh absolutely! I am what you would call a multishipper! There’s plenty of ships I love w/ him and all of them are set in their own AU’s unless otherwise stated. If there’s any specific ones in mind you want to know about don’t hesitate to ask Dwight’s opinion on the characters. I’ll doodle replies whenever I’m able. But in general, I’m always weak for Jake/Dwight & Evan/Dwight so those two are probably my faves.
What comes to headcanons, also yes! There are quite a few, of which I’ll post about every now and then when I get the inspiration to make proper posts about them. ]
as someone who struggles with depersonalization in my day to day life, I think it's super cool that you HC your Dwight to struggle with it too! makes me feel less weird, if that makes sense, haha.

Rising a brow, Dwight shrugged. “Then your team clearly did not pay as much attention as they should have.” Not meaning to sound rude, he let out and awkward laugh. “I mean, I didn’t mean it like that but… Everyone really should be careful about what they do and plan things out properly, you know? It increases the chances of getting out tremendously.” Sighing, he shook his head. “Well, anyway. We’re getting out of here and that’s all we should focus on right now.” Just as he had spoken, the generator turned on and powered the exit gate beside them. The leader began looking around, trying to spot the remaining two teammates that had been keeping the killer busy. “You might want to start opening the door, but don’t open it fully until everyone’s here– okay?”
“It’s fine,” he assured, not so much dismissively as tired. “I’m used to it, honest–this kind of thing happened before I even got here. I’m kind of like the designated dead weight. It’s not that big a deal if they others are out safely…”
Following Dwight’s gaze, he nodded and picked up his Tool Box, glad he’d be able to save it for a future trial. Usually he’d have to drop them at the hooks and spend another trial looking for another one, which just took time away from doing generators.
“Can do.” Making his way over to the lever, he pulled it down, still keeping an eye out for the others. “What if the killer tries for us instead? I can always try and lead them away if you need me to.”
“Well you better get used to surviving and getting out alive now. I’m not leaving anyone behind.” Dwight spoke sternly but he had good intentions. He knew a thing or two of what the other spoke about since he had experienced it himself. It was the worst kind of feeling to be left alone and he would do everything in his power to spare people from that. If it was up to him, nobody would be abandoned.
“No.” The leader made a sharp remark, pointing at the distance. The redhead was running full speed towards them alongside the Saboteur. “Dwiiight! The damn gate better be open!” She yelled. It was hard to see but once they were close enough a small killer could be seen chasing them. The Hag. The sight of her sent shivers down his spine and the short man waved his hands towards the gate.
“Okay time to open it!” Sweating from tension, he could feel his heartbeat getting quicker. “I’m gonna make sure they get out alright. You should probably run out as soon as you can too.”
Headcanon time! [TW Dissociation & Trauma mention]
Dwight dissociates, usually during the trials but sometimes outside of them as well. It is partially the cause he seems to maintain a calm exterior as he leads others and helps them through tough situations. As it affects people in many different ways let’s dive deeper into this, shall we? Even before he came to the realm he had to find ways to keep his head cool. It never really worked out though and as the brain tends to do– his too developed a coping mechanism that kept the poor boy going through the traumatic events. In his case, depersonalization became the type that helped his brain handle the pressure.What this means is that at times, he doesn’t feel connected to himself or his emotions to a degree– the latter being much more relevant. Any situation stressful enough can trigger him into this state, but sometimes the effects linger in a milder form. He may zone out, not feel exactly present in the moment and be forgetful. Being in tune with his own emotions can sometimes be difficult too, for the very same reason. While it is technically a good thing since the brain protects itself, it can be distracting and frustrating as well. He does his best to deal with this, even if he doesn’t fully understand what is going on most of the time.

Frowning in concern, the short man leaned down and tried to take a better look at Jake. “Are you sure? That creep was like... Obsessed with catching you.” He muttered, sighing. He really didn’t want him to be targeted, but sometimes his plans didn’t work perfectly and he had to improvise. In the end, things were fine but the Saboteur definitely got more hurt than he had intended to.
“Ah... I do have one, y-yeah.” He smiled awkwardly, holding the Medkit towards him like some sort of a gift or an offering.
Blinking at the question of his well being, he tilted his head. “Y-yeah?” He felt almost ashamed of how easy he had it. If it were up to him he would have taken the beating over the other any day. But... He knew it wasn’t smart. Jake was better at keeping the killer away than he was and he had to use that time to work on the generators or they never would have gotten out this cleanly. Sometimes sacrifices had to be made but he never stopped blaming himself of them.
“A-anyway. If you want I can help you with the wounds and keep you company? Helps to lower the lingering madness and all that.” Stuttering, he continued. “I... I mean unless y-you want to be alone. I can go!”
The stearn tone made Dwight tense up and expect the worst. To his relief it wasn’t anything bad though. More so, he was surprised of how willing the Deathsligher was to help him. “I-- wait what?” He blinked in confusion, staring up at the taller man. “You’re... Offering to help me?” As if he couldn’t believe his words, he had to repeat them out loud. Eyes widening, a hint of a smile crept on his lips. “For real?”

“𝔶𝔞 𝔠𝔞𝔫 tell me who it is… we killers ‘ave some more leeway with personal business.” He adjusted his grip on The Redeemer, “You should know to never wander in the fog… Yer almost always gonna be encounter another killer or yer gonna end up in one of them realms.” He huffed, “Like you’ve gone and done now. N’ ‘ere y’are, hidin in my saloon from some unknown vermin… Blamin’ yerself for bein’ a curious wanderer…”
Shaking his head rapidly, the man kept his lips shut. He wouldn’t risk that. No way! His next trial with them would be hellish if he did. “Yeah...” Sighing in shame of being lectured, he lowered his head. “But a friend lost something important and really wanted it back.” He frowned. “I couldn’t let them wander off. I know it’s dangerous out here. Exactly why I’d rather go myself than let them get lost and hurt...” Chuckling, he continued. “I mean, it’s just as stupid but at least they’re safe.”
What kind of music do you have on your mixtape?
“Good question, Pipsqueak.” Frank dug in his pocket, pulled out a bloodied walkman, and held it out to the Survivor, “Massive distortions and loud percussion that stabs at your eardrums are so my shit.”
“Give it a listen. But remember to bring that walkman back or else you’re going to be my primary target in the next trial we have together.”

Every time he went to have a regular conversation with him, his words got stuck in his throat and his stutter began acting up worse than it usually did. No matter how much he tried to analyze it, he couldn’t figure out an answer that would make sense to him. Maybe it’d pass with time. So he hoped, anyway. The last trial had been rough but they managed to get out alive. He had been checking on everyone just in case and making sure everyone got their wounds treated. When he approached Jake, he could feel that strange thing in his stomach again. Oh god, why? Swallowing, he offered the man an awkward smile. “H-hey. You doing alright?” Damn it, there he went again. “I mean... Uh. As alright as can be after that...”
