It Was Broken When I Got Here
(Ⓐ) – To most, the woman would just appear to be an older lady drinking away, but to a person that part of their job was to learn and know the faces on bounty posters, she was much more. It was the same as Akane. She may just appear like a young woman at the bar, but to others she may be recognized as the marine captain she was.
Akane didn’t know what the woman’s true nature was, the young captain knowing by now that what was fed to the public wasn’t always the… correct information. Whether Rowe was hostile or docile, it didn’t matter, because luckily Akane had opted to wearing her casual clothing to the bar. Hey, she was off shift. She didn’t care.
So when the seasoned pirate woman on the bar stool beside her began talking to herself, Akane glanced at her from the side of her eye. Was the Rowe drunk? Probably. Akane wasn’t sure.
Not seeing the harm in speaking up– the pirate didn’t seem to recognize her up until now anyway, Akane asked nonchalantly, “Having some trouble?”
She was mid-grumble about that first mate of hers when she heard a female voice cut into her thoughts. She glanced over to the woman. Long red hair, tanned skin, she held herself with a confidence. A confidence that Malina had seen before- one she had felt before herself. Was this a marine captain? Would make sense as to why she was talking to the seemingly senile old woman. Did this girl recognize her? Not that Malina particularly cared about it. She wasn’t about to start a fight. She was just enjoying her drink. Of course- marines were sometimes rather stupid. So there was that.
“Some trouble? We’re gonna need a few more years if you wanna know about my troubles, Red,” she took a drink of her beer, “right now it’s people in my life worrying I’m gonna do something they call ‘stupid.’ I’m fifty-five-damn years old. I don’t need some child telling me how to behave.”
With a heavy sigh she shook off her irritation. Her crew really did mean well. And she knew that. But it was still annoying feeling babied at her age. She could handle herself. Okay. Enough about her though.
“You’re a marine, aren’t you?” she took a guess. If she was wrong this would be awkward- but having been a marine for at least fifteen years of her own life she was pretty sure she wasn’t wrong, “If so you know who I am. That being said, you gonna attack or drink with me?”
There was a pause and a frown from the lady, “No alcohol though. You’re too young.” She had no idea how old this girl was, but she looked too young to be drinking yet. Mal was just old fashioned like that.
FIGHT
‘Good. Because I’d hate to be spoiled like your sorry ass.’ Smoker said as he casually sat down to the ground. Smoke carefully creeping around her, not even getting into her proximity as he stared straight into her eyes. He knew she wasn’t going to attack. That was apparent from her Marine days. Smoker took this opportunity to prepare for when he was going in.
Mal raised her eyebrow. Spoiled? Sorry ass? She twitched a little. “Such sharp words coming from a little brat. Does your mommy know you’ve gotten into quite the smoking habit?” She tilted her head, “Watch out, someone might accuse you of being repetitive, hoss.” She kept her sai in her hands, ready to defend if and when he charged at her. She wasn’t going to let him beat her if she had anything to do about it. Of course he’d be fine, she wasn’t interested in killing a marine. Especially one like Smoker. But she still would do the smack talk.
Bonding
Drake smiled and nodded. “thanks! I wish i could have met him! I would have to see him in his final moments. I mean, seeing him die wouldn’t be so fun, but watching tell the whole world about the most legendary treasure in the world, would have been so cool” Drake said.
“I wasn’t there myself, but it sure as hell caused a lot of trouble for the marines. Everyone was sent everywhere trying to find any offspring. It was quite the clusterfuck,” she took a sip of her drink. That amount of power in one man... a power so great that just mere words could start a whole new age. It was really incredible. She looked over this young man beside her. Would he have that potential too? If he was his offspring as he said, she wouldn’t have any doubt about it. This kid could move the tides just like his old man if he wanted to. “The stories I’ve heard about that day though... the accounts are quite... hmmm... what’s the word? Breathtaking I’d say.”
Sam shrugged. “Then I would have swum away I guess. Lucky for me they weren’t aggressive huh.” She was lucky, she really didn’t know that bees would do that. Something to keep in mind for the future. At the woman’s next words Sam rolled her eyes. Pushy old lady wasn’t she. Sam hadn’t meant to be rude but apparently the lady had taken it as such.
“I asked you first, so you should have introduced yourself then I would introduce myself. My name is Sam. Samael Cork, but I prefer Sam.” Sam had the feeling that the way she said that could qualify as rude so she added, “Thanks, by the way. For the advice. I’ll be sure to remember it in the future.” There, that was polite right?
At the mention of food, Sam’s stomach took the opportunity to remind her that she hadn’t eaten more than a few protein bars since early morning. And it was now almost three in the afternoon if she read the sun’s position correctly. But the lady was a pirate. And she might kidnap her for nefarious purposes. AND she still hadn’t introduced herself. But, also food. “What kind of food?” Sam asked.
She had a slight snarl. This young girl was a back-talker wasn’t she? Didn’t respect her elders, didn’t understand proper manners... how rude. But she figured that was what was wrong with today’s generation- they were all snooty brats. But the girl introduced herself regardless and Mal was satisfied despite the initial sharp tone. However, the second part had somewhat made up for it.
“I’m Captain Malina Rowe of the Aegis pirates,” she said simply, introducing herself. And at the question about the food she tilted her head, “Whatever the boys want really. Probably barbecue of some sort. I have to remind them to include vegetables. They mistake me for their mother sometimes. Get diabetes, I don’t care.”
No, she really did care. But saying that would make her look too soft and she was done being too soft. Though... she frowned, “Are you here all by yourself young lady? It’s dangerous you know.” Clearly. She was just nearly attacked by bees.

{✿} Camilla wasn’t sure when exactly she took it out but she could feel the familiar chain in her hands. She wasn’t planning on attacking the creature though. She knew better than to mess around with an animal in their home. No, she simply had it out for defensive reasons.
The girl didn’t run away either, the chances of her being chased were higher if she did. And something told her that she would not be able to out run this thing anyways.best to walk around it. Though that was way easier said than done. And not as nerve racking.
“Huh?” The tealette was obviously confused for moment when the woman approached her. For a split second sh argued with herself as to whether she should go with her or not. They didn’t know each other so that rose the question as to why? She supposed it wasn’t too odd of a thing though, if the situation was reversed Camilla would have come and helped so she had no reason to question the other’s intentions. Or at least for now.
“Alright, thanks.”
Malina was unsure for a moment there if the girl would agree to follow her. Of course, Mal couldn’t blame her if she didn’t- this creature was large and dangerous, yes- but Mal was a stranger. And in this world, a stranger could end up being as harmless as a fly or as deadly as... well, this thing.
Glancing up at the sun and then down at her glinting sai, she looked to the teal-haired girl, “Okay, so whatever you do- don’t run. It’ll chase. But we can sure as hell deter it.” She moved the metal sai so that the sun glinted off of the weapons and into the eyes of the creature.
It made a roar, but seemed to not realize what was causing the discomfort- shaking its head as it turned away, starting to leave the situation. Mal was quiet, putting the pressure on whenever it seemed the creature was going to come back to them. As it moved away, she spoke to the girl again, “You should be more careful. Not everyone wants to babysit, now come on- we don’t want to be here when it comes back,” the woman’s tone was sharp, slightly agitated.
Okay. So she didn’t mind helping out someone in need. But she wasn’t exactly sunshine and roses either. She started moving towards her camp. The noise level of her crew would ensure that nothing wild neared. “Do you have a name or do I have to call you Blue?” She wasn’t bothering with that ‘teal’ crap.
((Sorry guys! I’ve been distracted with my Shanks rp blog chillin-at-partys-bar. Hopefully I’ll be getting around to working with Mal more regularly!!))

Drake nodded. “My mom kept the fruit in secret. It’s a mythical zoan, which makes it very dangerous. I ate it when the situation demanded it” Drake explained in a vague way.
Drake smiled brightly. She talked good about his father! “Yeah! He is the coolest pirate ever after all! Nobody could match to dad! That’s why i want to be just like him. I want to inspire thousands to take to a life of freedom and adventure like my father did” Drake said excitedly like a little kid. He loved talking about his dad, even though he never did. When he did it was like a little kid talking about his favorite superhero
A mythical zoan? Hm. She had heard about things like that but she never quite believed it. Funny how those things worked. She listened to him go on and on about his father.
She could understand the excitement- no matter what happened your father was still your father and there was no way around that. He clearly loved his father too. She remembered her own father. She spoke of him a lot the same way Drake was talking about Roger, though she had barely met her own dad back when he was alive. She could respect that. “Seems like a nice dream to have. I bet your father would be happy to know how much he’s inspired you. It means you’ve got that ability to inspire in your blood.”

Ace hadn’t been in this town for a long time - only one day actually - but he already decided that it sucked. He had been alone on missions quite a few times before so he wasn’t unfamiliar with cities of any kind, but this one here certainly made him uncomfortable and irritated.
Firstly he had heard some rather offensive comments about him having joined Whitebeard’s - of course Ace had made sure they got a good beating - and after that he had settled in a little bar to calm down again, which he still sat in drinking something.
His mood wasn’t all too good and he was glad no one tried to talk to him. He actually wanted to leave this town as quick as possible, but he most likely had to stay here at least one more day. Sighing, Ace decided to listen to two guys next to him who seemed to have a lively conversation. But once the topic changed to Gold Roger, he tensed visibly, gripping his glass tighter. Of course one of them just had to insult his biological father right away, and no matter how much Ace disliked Roger, he always got incredibly mad when someone said something bad about him.
This time was no different and so the glass in his grip bursted and flames started to lick his arm. This got the attention of the two guys who looked at him in confusion, but Ace didn’t give them the chance to say anything, sending one of them flying right out of the bar with a fiery punch. He mentally apologized to Marco as he had promised to not cause any ruckus but he just couldn’t hold back. This was also a good way to let off some steam which was caused by his bad mood.
Walking outside, Ace grabbed the filthy looking guy by his shirt, giving him a more than deadly glare. “Don’t insult Roger. Are we clear on that?” he hissed before letting go which made the man instantly run away in fear. Coward.
Malina had just near given up on this town when she heard some commotion going on near a bar. Well, even if the people sucked it would be interesting to see what was going on. A fight was always plenty entertaining to watch. Maybe if it got too close to her she could justify joining in. Like if they threw a punch at her. That would be fun.
As the woman neared the area though she moved slightly to the side as a man ran full-speed, terrified, past her. Apparently, he had gotten his ass handed to him by whoever was here, Baby, she frowned as she looked back to the source of all of the problems that had just broken out.
Ah.
She recognized him instantly from what she had seen in the papers. Portgas D. Ace. Fire Fist Ace. The reason she had “quit” the marines. Dammit. Where was her spray bottle when she needed it? She approached him, “Cool down there, sport. This town is just a cesspit of inbred, judgmental, dipshits,” she had a feeling the town people were getting restless and antsy with the powerful, infamous Fire Fist throwing punches. A call to the marines would not be far off.
It seemed that Ace was alone too. This was a shit town to be alone in. She had her crew behind her, though they were quiet and ultimately hidden- trying to lay as low as they could. Some would recognize her, and they had, but most of her crew were rescues- those she had saved from one situation or another. They didn’t have bounties. Hell most of them weren’t even sure if they wanted to be pirates or not. Made no difference to her what they decided.
“I didn’t lose my job so that you could go and get yourself killed because your temper is as hot as the rest of your body.”
♠❙— “If you’re looking for a fight, I’ll beat you to a pulp!”
“Relax, tater tot, I’ve never started a fight. Besides, I’m not a marine any more. I lost that job because of Gol D. Roger’s little shit stain.”
“You aren’t? Then what are you? A little brat?”
♠❙— “I’m a pirate! That’s what I am!”
“Oh, a pirate?” Raises an eyebrow, “You sure you should be telling that to an ex marine?”
♠❙— “OW!! Why you gotta hit so hard?! And I ain’t a shit stain!”
“You aren’t? Then what are you? A little brat?”
♠❙— “FORGET IT! I’m not doin’ anything and you can’t make me!”
Malina takes out a rolled up newspaper and swats him over the head, “Brave words for a little shit stain.”
“Smoker is a little bitch, pass it on.”
"Been saying that for years," though she hasn't known him for that long.
