Hey I was wondering if you could explain how you go from grayscale to color. I've been messing around with the process but can't seem to get the process down. Do you have any tips?
good q!
first of all, i rarely totally go from grayscale to color. instead, i paint in color while toggling on and off a grayscale view using this method: https://twitter.com/beccahallstedt/status/1119258883602694145
if you DO want to convert from grayscale to color, the #1 tool in photoshop is gradient maps. you can make a gradient map adjustment layer in the layers menu and use it to build up color!
i never ONLY use a gradient map because they’re never perfect, so i’ll add a gradient map and then paint on top of it all to make sure my colors are rich and my values are clean.
hope this helps!
Bless you for your tutorials! They've helped me a lot with shading! <3 much love!
so glad to hear that <3
Is it hard being NB in the gaming industry? It seems very cis male orientated and it scares me when applying to future jobs
uhhhh, short answer: yes, but not all the time.
i’m not gonna lie to you. it’s exhausting. even at progressive workplaces, there are issues that you have to coexist with, especially when you’re at the bottom of the ladder. it sucks. i’ve had a lot of really uncomfortable moments that have stuck with me for years. it can be hard to be around and hard to let go of.
however-
1. it really varies by workplace, by team, by year. some teams are genuinely very progressive and forward-thinking, and i think we’re seeing this more, especially with younger groups of developers workin their way up. no situations are the same, and unfortunately, you don’t really know what you’re getting into until you’re there.
2. there is more visibility of enby folks than ever, and it continues to grow. we have more enby devs than at any other point in time.
as cis male as the industry is, it’s also getting queerer and gayer and better. we need that to keep happening. we need new voices, new perspectives, new people to come into the industry so it keeps improving.
if you’re concerned about this while entering game dev, i really recommend finding or starting communities for people like you: whether that be queer or female or PoC or whatnot. find other people that have gone through what you’re going through, lean on them, find fellowship.
you can do this! and it’s much easier to navigate with friends.

Pseudodragons from the rainforest far west of Perthos may lack the sharp intelligence of their common counterparts, but they are no less delightful, playful, or curious. Generally friendly and easy to find in the trees, juveniles make for a fair test of a young tamer's skillset. Once trained, they bond tightly to their companion and love to cozy up on their shoulder, the back of their neck, or anywhere that they catch a warm nap between intense bursts of energy.
