Midnight Adventures | Charlotte & Beck
Despite not having spent lots of time in Church (her father was always too busy to take the girl and her mother was reluctant to appear in public without the man that was her ticket to high society), Charlotte knew that the chapel was one of a kind. It was small, but the single stained glass window was enough to reassure her that no expense had been spared. There was no need for lights to illuminate the space, the moon spilling though the window provided more than enough for the pair, who were used to conducting their business in the darkness of the night.
Charlotte quickly found herself placed in the first row of wooden pews, right in front of the alter that Beckham had claimed as his own. “I think my sins might be too scandalous for God, Beckham. I wouldn’t want to burden the old bird with my antics,” she replied, a devious smile gracing her lips as she spoke. “But what about you? I’m sure there’s some deeds you wish to repent in the presence of God.”
The flask in his hands glinted in the colored moonlight and Beckham turned it, his eyes flicking to focus on that instead of Charlotte for a moment. He was always doing that -- unable to focus on one thing for too long, especially if something else was brighter. He supposed it was a decent analogy for his whole life. He smiled, raising the flask to his lips and bringing his eyes back to the brunette, and rolled his eyes. "You're no fun," he whined before taking a drink. "I think God deserves a few heart attacks."
He handed the drink back to her and ran a hand through his hair with a short laugh. "Oh, where to even begin, Miss Aisling," he mused. "How many Hail Mary's do you think sex out of wedlock would be? Because if it's more than two I think I'd like to pass. Sounds time consuming." He jumped up then -- slowly, of course, since he always moved at a lazy pace -- and leaned against the pulpit, his eyes scanning over the invisible crowd ahead. "Think I could do this?" He asked, his glazed eyes shining as a lopsided grin took over his face. "I think I could be quite good. Tell people they can keep up all their sinful endeavors -- spread my own religion around." He looked back at her and pursed his lips. "Time consuming, though."
