#this was my favorite ep for the agatha christie of it all #grantchester #tv #also for finally acknowledging that not a few people in suburban england (as opposed to london) in 1963 #would in fact be like 'so if you're a vicar........why are you indian' and it would be extremely annoying to hear lol #me: wtf...i can't believe they're canceling the hot vicar show...it just started!!!#me: ok yes it's season 11 but still!!

#tag for later #starting the new book club book #it's a new (last year) novel and very of the zeitgeist #it's fine so far but i find myself unsure whether the author is writing like that to create a particular mood...#or if this is the only way they can write and they're just really in their lane...#update: looked up the author and was flashbanged by their birth year (1998)#i think this is the only way they can write so far and they're really in their lane lol. they are NOT bad i should clarify. they're new!#it's just that lately i find myself wondering what authors can write in different styles if a story called for it....#been getting real into prose lately....u know how it is...#think i got radicalized by reading faulkner for the first time as well as getting back into morrison again #you realize wait.....this is what's possible? people can write like this?#sorta like watching really good tennis in your city and then watching like rafael nadal in person and being like oh....#there's a whole other level of skill happening here well beyond my comprehension lol #update: a little less than a third in and i'm bored lol #i flipped around which i rarely do! but I think a dnf for me #feels too grimy and depressing for me

who cares if you don't fully "get" the weird postmodernist novel on your first read, or if the experimental arthouse film is opaque to you on your first viewing? you are not being graded. you are not being scored. there is value in the attempt. every time i've read House of Leaves or watched Blue Velvet, I've gotten something new from it. the idea that you might not "get" something and therefore shouldn't bother with it is so silly to me

#was reading some cs lewis letters the other day and he wrote something along the lines of #how he thinks it's wild when people say they only ever read novels once because how are you supposed to even understand it #if you only read it once?#really put perspective on things...
