This is Taylor Swift's greatest power: an ability to combine her art and her life so profoundly that both spheres become more interesting to everyone, regardless of their emotional investment in either.

Vulnerability in a space where it’s permitted and allowed to be connected with by an audience or others is an elevation of the human spirit. It’s sort of why we’re here in some weird way … It’s a part of being human that gets distant from a lot of people.
Marc Maron
I think people just wear yoga pants and sweatshirts, and I wanted to make the most beautiful version of that possible.
Kanye West
Kanye West is controversial as a byproduct of his own mania, which is to say it’s natural, which is to say it’s enjoyable.

But the Stream, mobile applications, and moving images: They all show a departure from a books-internet toward a television-internet. We seem to have gone from a non-linear mode of communication — nodes and networks and links — toward a linear one, with centralization and hierarchies. The web was not envisioned as a form of television when it was invented. But, like it or not, it is rapidly resembling TV: linear, passive, programmed and inward-looking.
Hossein Derakhshan (Whip-smart piece from a man who went to jail in the Golden Age of Blogging, was recently freed and is now being swallowed by the Stream.)
Is the 'contemporary conformist' aesthetic already becoming 'the mainstream' design aesthetic? Are many post-hipsters contemporary conformists? Does 'the web' look too contemporary conformist now? How has Instagram impacted the contemporary conformist aesthetic?

The greatest impediments to personal change always come from within, not without.
Andy Greenwald
Mad Men is a show that believes deeply in the possibility of change. It’s just under no illusions about how difficult that process can be.

It’s easier to be angry. It’s harder to be positive and happy, I reckon.

The world can only be saved through design.

I'm the dude with the pink polo and the bad attitude -- and I'm still here.

Tinder gives us what we think we want, but without the spark or intrigue, or any of the human effort that normally goes into sex and dating.

I believe all ‘culture websites’ on the internet are NETSTREAM. They are dependent upon widely consumed topics of internet audiences ... Understand that the world that netstreamers interpret on the web is not actually determined by ‘what people should be interested in.’ Instead, ‘media companies’ are dependent upon ‘artists’ and ‘personalities/companies with large social media reach.’ The netstream world has made online media companies nothing more than a weird biz model where they are generating advertisements for ‘basically everything.’

THE VISUALS AND CHOREOGRAPHY OF ST. VINCENT'S DIGITAL WITNESS
Clark also moves her head up and down in similar fashion throughout the video. She gives emotionless blinks. She stares. This choreography syncs to the song’s theme set inside this dystopian near future. The Digital Witness human being is reduced to a repetitive robot in front of the smartphone. Up and down we scan our feeds. Left and right we read. Eyes fixed.
♫ Get back to your stare I care, but I don’t care Oh oh, I, I want all of your mind Give me all of your mind ♫
It has become pretty common to call television the new home of serious storytelling. As films increasingly become the dominion of caped crusaders, we go to the movies to learn what it takes to be superhuman. We go to television to learn what it is to be human.
