Did I lose track of time so badly that I forgot until the literal last day that this is Autism Acceptance month? Maybe. Possibly.
...Yes, I did. Anyways. I would like to present you all with a headcanon that I, as an autistic person, 100% believe - I think Leviathan has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and is (at least to me) super relatable and I will protect him with my life.
The hyperfixations, the special interests! Our boy Levi obviously has them. Look no further than the event going on right now and Levi's love for Ruri-chan. His interests become a part of who he is - an important aspect of his identity. Relatable. Adorable.
His enthusiasm is wonderful, and I wish we could see the brothers be more accepting of it - though this event was incredibly sweet and a breath of fresh air, seeing how in the end they all wanted Levi to succeed in his quest and overall seemed a lot happier for him.
Once something becomes your special interest, you sort of become a walking encyclopedia for it... I'd definitely consider Levi to be just that. Even just considering he can remember the titles to some of the animes and games he likes! Not to mention the info-dumping, I can imagine him happily flapping his hands as he explains the plots of his favorite stories to MC. Such a cutie.
Of course, Leviathan also has a touch of social awkwardness for sure. He mostly prefers to do things by himself since he knows what he wants better than anyone else could, and I think a lot of autistic people can relate to that - I for sure can. He's a bit of a loner, and it seems like being in certain situations can definitely give him a sensory overload, or at the very least he prefers to stay away from them.
Poor thing - I know it wasn't a super important line/part of the scene, but it broke my heart, because I know the feeling. Too many people, bad senory experience. And nobody else gets how hard that can be.
Of course there's a bunch of other little things I could nitpick and point out to back up this HC because they're experiences I share... having a stronger bond with animals, losing track of time when wrapped up in my special interests, echolalia or other verbal oddities (his "lololol" and other phrases). But if I went into all the tiny details, I'd, well, start info-dumping, and this wouldn't get posted on the right day.
Anyways, this is all subjective and just a headcanon, of course. You can be autistic, otherwise neurodiverse, or neurotypical and disagree with me - it's all good. I just thought I would give my own thoughts about Levi as this month comes to a close, considering how relatable I find Levi as an autistic person.
