this is kiiiiiiiiiind of a long post cuz i ended up rambling on waaaaayyy more than i thought i would
(for the sake of clarity i will refer to them individually as A-Side and B-Side . i did not come up with these names but i'd be surprised if they WEREN'T spot-on)
from what i've seen from them already (which is. very little... metronomik please feed me) I LIKE THEM!!!! A LOT!!!!
and... i might be, like, super biased, but maybe the biggest contributor as to WHY i already adore them is bcoz i'm 99% sure they're based on Hip-Hop. the boomboxes-for-heads shtick, their fashion choices, and the graffiti all around what i'm Assuming is their designated domain/area/base-of-operation/whatever... i mean. what else could they be ?! and this all excites me greatly!!!!!!!!! because i feel as if the inclusion of characters representative of Hip-Hop is veeeeery important in a game that plans to celebrate musical diversity (as per NSR2's Steam Page description)
as for their designs... i think they're really cool!!! i like the Tripp pants (.....????) Sweatpants thing A-Side has going on. it's kind of hard to tell because i think the texturing on both of their pants/sneakers is unfinished as of the Early Alpha Build but... i enjoy it. A-Side i enjoy you and your pink nipples having ass ...
then we have 'b_b' B-Side with her big ole bubble braid. :-) i wonder if it'll have any practical use in the bossfight like how Rama pulls a handheld camera out of her handheld camera-shaped updo. she also seems to be wearing something akin to Tripp pants but with a yellow hoodie tied around her waist. i like the blue-and-yellow of her color scheme a bit more than A-Side's purple/pink-and-yellow.
also^2, it might be the distance/quality of the screenie that makes it hard to tell, but B-Side's jewelry/neck accessories remind me vaguely of Idzila neck rings (also known as African gold chokers) which i find interesting!

"i like their boombox heads" is kind of crazy for me to say. many of you do not know this about me (or you can probably guess based off the absence of certain characters from my almost-3-year-strong body of nsr fanartwork) but normally i just Do Not find objectheads appealing design-wise.
but. BUT. I Can Make An Exception for A-Side and B-Side.
in a sea of TV/monitorheads this is my First time seeing boomboxes!!!! and them being boomboxheads is likely suuuuuper important to their character just as boomboxes are significant items in the history of hip-hop; portable sound systems where you could just blast your mixtape out into the street for the other people in your community to hear, unrestrained by major record label music distribution (as hip-hop was NOT being played on the radio in the 1970s-80s because white audiences did not find it palatable <- major oversimplification.) they enabled street performances, block parties, etc etc.
and this could all tie into the theme of "why people play" [referring to creating music] that Wan Hazmer had mentioned in an interview about NSR2 that i Don't Remember The Name Of (will reblog this post with the link when i find it) because... people make music, people want community. music fosters community. (mind that Hip-Hop is a cultural movement that was, in large part, born from African-American pain & strife, shunned and stigmatized because white audiences thought -- and still think -- the recounts of violence/struggle/survival within the lyrical content of Rap was the glorification of said subject matter.) and if they can't find that sort of belonging because of the way they choose to express themselves (be it through the music they make/play,) then they will turn elsewhere and build up a community of their own, consisting of people who DO share the same/similar experience...
...and perhaps A-Side and B-Side have boomboxes for heads because they are personifications of that sentiment!!! and if the game comes out and i turn out to be entirely wrong and i rambled on for nothing, then oh well. it's cool i made the connection nonetheless. but i doubt i've hit a wall... i have too much faith in Metronomik...
anyways, here's something i really hope for in their fight mechanic-wise: what if they did a directional/proximity audio effect sort of thing with their boss fight music? like A-Side and B-Side ARE the ones emitting the music (maybe they play two different versions of the same song OR their parts are complimentary so that they sound normal both with and without each other?) which would encourage the player to try and stay close to them so they can hear, but we'd also have to dodge their attacks at the same time.
if they're the ones emitting the music, maybe that could be part of the reason as to why they're humanoid but FUCKING HUMONGOUS? Like???? even in nsr standards (in the first game, the bosses were enlarged for gameplay purposes so that they were easier to hit...) A-Side and B-Side are HUGE. but they are Huge because theyve gotta project the music yaknow? it could be attributed to the fact that the last time we saw the boomboxes was in Early Alpha footage, but i do not see a SINGLE speaker around that boomboxing ring unlike the ones surrounding rama irama's recording studio!!!!!
i will conclude this post by saying i Like Those Boombox People . i am suuuuper excited to see how they'll turn out!!! if we do get a second public access steam demo (like, separate from the expos/in-person events) i REALLY REALLY hope we get to battle them. and after the game releases i will absolutely be sticking up for them when the need arises!!!!!!!
