How to Disappear Completely
Fell into the screen like a star

Guys. Guys. Do you ever think about the funeral boats merlin made for freya, lance and arthur?
Freya’s boat was covered in soft green grass, like she was being gently laid back into a quiet meadow one last time. It looked so peaceful.
Lancelot’s boat was overflowing with flowers, it was heartbreakingly beautiful as it floated away.
But when it was Arthur’s turn…
Merlin couldn’t do it.
Arthur’s boat was just the plain, ordinary straw one. No grass, no flowers, nothing at all.
Merlin was so devastated he didn’t even have the heart or the energy left to decorate it. He loved Arthur so much, more than anything in this world . He just stood there on the shore, watching that bare little boat carry the man he loved most down the river with nothing but straw.
Because what do you do when the person you loved most in the world is suddenly gone? what do you decorate that with? what could possibly be enough?
I don’t think I’ll ever be okay again.
One of my favorite things about in canon merthur is that Arthur will constantly go “will you shut up Merlin” (or some variation) but when Merlin actually goes quiet, Arthur is instantly like, are you okay? Please chatter my ear off

Having a queer character believe he won't find love and proving him right is not good writing.
Having a character grow up in solitary confinement and then ripping her away from the only family she's ever known to live a life of solitude once again is not good writing.
Having a character be in love with his best friend and then just compare it to a high school crush is not good writing.
Having Eleven say that Mike has always been the person who truly understood her after showing us in the previous seasons that he only sees her as a superhero IS NOT GOOD WRITING.
Having two girls be abused by a man with power for the majority of their lives only to leave them dead and alone as a direct consequence of the trauma they suffered IS VILE WRITING

His face, My goddess, his face...
Even without knowing it, even without accepting it, his face and his eyes scream that if in that instant Merlin had even joked about having a secret, Arthur's entire world would turn upside down.
Arthur's world has always been one of court, secrets, manipulation, politics. And then there's Merlin, the element that completely changed his monotony, his daily companion, the one who has seen him even at times when Arthur would rather not be seen.
He's not stupid enough to believe he knows everything about Merlin, because why would he if he's "just his manservant"? The dividing line he draw so carefully to protect both of them. And yet, he think he know the essence of Merlin, he know who Merlin is in his depth, right? Because they're Merlin and Arthur... they just know, right?
