Throughout rewatching the Female Titan arc, I noticed that Armin doesn't really interact with Eren or Mikasa on the expedition and really spends a lot of his screentime next to Jean.

When the action isn't happening, they spend a lot of time simply discussing the true intentions behind the mission and the philosophy of Erwin's leadership. And it's interesting because leading up to the more action-heavy parts of the season, Jean and Armin aren't really shown hanging out or being buddy buddy. But when Armin speaks, Jean listens. When Jean speaks, Armin listens. Combined with some very easily inferred mutual respect and it's a winning combination.

The bond between Jean and Armin may not be powered by a childhood promise to explore the world like Eren and Armin are, but I still think they're neat.
