yah obviously I wasn’t fucking stupid enough to think that marvel n the homophobic rat were actually going to let steve and bucky hold hands but I was dumb enough to think that after the whole ‘til the end of the line’ ‘no not without you’ ‘inseparable’ ‘even when I had nothing I had bucky’ ‘steve drops his shield twice for bucky and his voice breaks thru 70 years of brainwashing’ thing they’d let them, you know, at least live in the same century. my bad

Yup. There was a multi-movie continuity in which Steve and Bucky were canonically best friends. The ride or die kind of best friends. The kind of best friend you became an internationally hunted fugitive to protect.

Then in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel retconned them into not even being friends.
