I’m taking a geology class this semester so here’s a knowledge: the speed at which lava can flow depends a lot on its composition. Lava that is low in viscosity like that can go real fast, whereas higher viscosity lavas tend to result in more explosive and deadly eruptions but don’t really flow so much as kinda…squish
Sarah Everard was kidnapped and murdered by a police officer, her remains were identified earlier this week.
This resonated across the country, as women feel they cannot even trust police. A vigil was planned to honour her and also to become a Reclaim The Night march, where women nationwide would go out en masse at night in protest of being told to stay indoors to avoid getting murdered.
Initially this vigil was set to go ahead, but the met stepped in and declared that it was unsafe due to COVID (there is currently a ban on all peaceful protest as part of COVID restrictions, yet during lockdown the met has allowed other protests to go ahead if they believe they will get violent if they don’t. This literally discourages peaceful protest and encourages violent protest)
Of course the vigil goes ahead regardless and police move in to disperse it. Police become violent and they begin manhandling/grabbing/dragging the women who were just peacefully marching to honour the memory of a woman killed by a policeman.

Degenerate author and adorable dog in need of assistance.
Hello,
My name is April Daniels, and I’m an author best known for my debut novel Dreadnought. This morning I found out I was not the only author having trouble getting paid at my publisher. In fact, some of us aren’t even getting replies when we inquire about where our money is. This is the second quarter I have not been paid, and I am coming to the end of my reserves.
Despite my hopes, the time has come for me to pass the hat and ask for assistance from any quarter. Please donate to my survival fund; anything helps, a little bit can go a long way.
If you can’t afford to donate, please reblog this, please post it elsewhere on social media, and spread the word of how people can help. Even a momentary effort can make a big difference in my survival.
Gimli at hobbit parties: *learning everyone’s names, listening to all their family histories & anecdotes about their children, telling good and wholesome jokes, generally being super polite and charming*
Legolas at hobbit parties: HEY KIDS WANNA SEE ME EAT THIS HANDFUL OF DIRT *scarfs it real fast*
Lotr books: Gimli recites poetry, impresses Galadriel with his wit & charm, is a noble and cunning warrior. Legolas likes to lord his elven-ness over people at every opportunity, screams, falls out of a tree, kind of a weirdo.
“Okay, I wasn't going to say anything because I was hoping to just quietly fix everything so I would never have to, but I can't. You may have noticed I no longer have an agent name listed in my bio. A short while ago, my agent let me go.”

Hey fam, today author Emery Lee announced on Twitter (@EmeryLeeWho) that they’d been let go by not one, but two literary agents because they asked for disability accommodations for their ADHD. You can read the full account in the linked twitter thread, but basically he’s been treated appallingly by well known figures in the agency world who are known for their advocacy and helping marginalized authors. Except, it would seem, in this instance.

The thread is long and details a lot of the ableism that runs rampant in publishing. The whole industry is basically set up to be as inaccessible as possible, and I say this as someone who worked on the other side of the publishing desk before becoming an author myself. I can almost guarantee you that the accommodations Emery asked for were likely very simple to implement, but were rejected as being bothersome. I feel confident in saying this because I’m aware of how unforgiving publishing “norms” are, even though they don’t have to be. Back when I worked mainstream, I was the editor who got given the “problem” authors to deal with because I was good at “handling them.” What that really meant was I was willing to work with them and not dig my heels at every small request for assistance, and nor did I view that request as entitlement. With hindsight, it was my own neurodiversity jiving with theirs, and we found a way around the neurotypical standards that largely keep publishing inaccessible to many of us, both as readers and authors.

Emery’s book, Meet Cute Diary, a YA trans romcom replete with fake dating trope and written by an #ownvoices, multiply marginalized author, is set to debut on May 4, 2021 and I would really love if we could help it be a success despite this awful setback.

Thank you for reading, and please, signal boost! Tumblr has a habit of hiding external links, and I’d like this to go far and wide.
Man I hope they cancel standardized testing, any education professional can tell you it’s a bunch of useless horseshit that does nothing except make students and teachers miserable while utterly failing to accurately gauge understanding.
While this is a funny joke, as far as I’m aware this company is actually pretty cool, and the purpose behind the Liquid Death (sparkling or still) water is quite wholesome.
Part of the reason for it being a tallboy is that aluminum cans are more recyclable than water bottles, potentially infinitely so, while water bottles either have a limited amount of recyclability potential or aren’t actually recyclable at all.
The other reason is to literally make it more fun and appealing to drink something other than alcohol at concert venues. Part of getting over addiction or even getting away from a culture that is doing you harm is, in the US at least, heavily associated with becoming “no fun”. The idea here is to make water as fun in terms of packaging as alcohol, so people who are going sober, who can’t drink, or who are the Designated Driver don’t have to feel like they’re relegated to the “no fun zone” forever and still get to order something with a silly name. We had these at my brother’s wedding as an alcohol alternative and tbh it was really neat.
From the Liquid Death website:
“Most products in the health and wellness space are all marketed with “aspirational” fitness models and airbrushed celebrities. And many of us are tired of it. Why should unhealthy products be the only brands with “permission” to be loud, fun, and weird? And let’s be honest, almost all marketing and branding is just theater. So we’re going to treat our theater like a movie theater and have more fun with it.”
So yeah! If you want a neat alternative to buying bottled water, this isn’t a bad alternative. Also, if you feel like you miss the feeling of opening a can of beer and drinking one, especially with carbonation, this could help curb the urge without having to substitute soda.
