After passing by (and falling in love with) a beautiful store named Mulberry & Grand (@mulberryandgrand) in Little Italy, our Founder Fernanda Paronetto decided to interview the owner, Emily Guggino. The minute Emily Guggino graduated College, she moved to New York City. Even as a small child she knew that she wanted to be in New York, walking in high heels down the City streets. Ayhan, her future husband, was a Turkish photojournalist, and moved from a prominent position in Istanbul to come to New York and live the American dream. Their love story began when Emily (minus the high heels!) stumbled upon Ayhan, selling his photography outside the Guggenheim Museum one sunny Sunday afternoon. Together they launched their first brand called Studio Manhattan, which is a series of artwork and photographic accessories. Just a little over a year and a half ago they launched Mulberry & Grand, a curated collection of inspired accessories that Emily fell in love with. Their love for travel has introduced them to many artisans across the world and, together with their own designs, have created Mulberry & Grand. A brand that believes that you don't need high heels to be amazing. This is Josefinas' (@josefinasportugal) philosophy. This luxury shoes brand from Portugal started online in Europe and opened its first flagship store last month in New York City. The flats and the sneakers are handmade: that definitely makes the shoes very special and unique. We talked with Sofia Oliveira, one of the Co-Founders. "Josefinas was founded in 2013 from a woman's dream - and other women that joined her. Our shoes were created to inspire women to achieve their dreams. It's a women's dream for women". "Spread the Word! Together we grow!" As many of you know, I participate in a few Charity & Social Groups in New York. I believe, as many of you probably do too, that we have so much time for ourselves, so why not donate a bit of it for those that really need us, right? . Every Saturday I participate in a Feeding Program at 11am, at Tompkins Square Park (on 7th Street), in the East Village. It’s a group created by Friends in Need with Latinos NYC. . Every 3rd weekend of the month, Latinos NYC (@latinos_nyc) takes over and organizes the day feeding around 200 homeless people. We always need help and everyone is welcome! Who to contact? Our dear friend, visionary and Founder of Latinos NYC, Raul Rios (@raulkrios)! He’s the Heart of it all and brings together a beautiful group of volunteers every 3rd weekend! ------ A bit about Latinos NYC: “Founded in April of 2008. Its inception was born out of the vision of the Board's Chairman, Raul K. Rios, who recognized many of the ills of his community were either being overlooked or under recognized. Rios served his country in the United States Army from 1981-86, from which he retained the duties of the oath he took and a dedication to finishing his mission. These characteristics and more are discovered in everything LatinosNYC does. . The company's name derives out of the mosaic that the Latino culture is within New York City. A contrasting conglomerate of shades, dialects, customs and more that somehow share a thread of similarity that makes the diaspora so vastly unique and congruent simultaneously. . Not a part of the NYC Scene!!! Guys! The other day we did several InstaStories during a super cool brunch in the West Village! We went to Alexandra Restaurant (@alexandrarestaurant), located at 455 Hudson Street and bumped Eran, the owner. Eran was born in Israel and moved to NYC 14 years ago! He decided he’d open a small NY bistro with American cuisine, happy service and music. Everything is very fresh and cooked “a la minute”, so nothing is prepared before hand. It’s the type of place where they certainly don’t “try too hard” and do get it right on point! This is for sure our type of place, since it’s not part of the NYC Scene. What to try? Everything! We were in a big group, so we were able to try several dishes. Their Calamari is definitely the b-e-s-t we’ve ever had. It’s not fried! It’s pan seared and the taste is heavenly. Their omelets, salads and desserts are all very good too! Drink? Oh…Eran did this great Frozen Margarita that was perfect for this crazy hot and humid weather. This week our Founder, Fernanda Paronetto, interviewed the world-famous visionary floral artist, Jeff Leatham (@jeffleatham). --- We all know how hard - or painful - it can be to have beautiful flowers in your Home. Living in New York can make this “simple” chore, a challenge. For some people, like our Founder Fernanda Paronetto, their palms start sweating just with the thought of What, How, Where to buy Flowers. (Don’t get it wrong, our Founder is crazy about flowers….but knows nothing about them.) . Why? Well, lets analyze: . 1. Everyone living in New York is literally always busy running up and down in the City. It’s pretty easy to forget to water your adorable flowers in the morning or when you get home. 2. New York has a cruel Winter that we only survive due to the massive heaters and has a hot, humid Summer that make us sleep practically embraced with the air conditioner. This makes it so hard to keep flowers alive and glistening. 3. When you go to a flower shop - in a grocery or market, a boutique flower shop or one of these bigger stores in the Flower District - you never reeeeally know what to buy. 4. Mixing and matching your arrangements? Ha! This can be a complicated task for sure, specially when you only know the names of flower like Roses and Lilacs. . Jeff is currently “the Artistic Director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V, in Paris and as well as the Artistic Director at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, where has been creating a sensation with his floral designs and installations since he first began working with flowers there 17 years ago. . At the time, they told us their next video would be of Bannerman Island where a former munitions facility designed like a fairy-tale European castle looms over the Hudson River Valley. Yesterday, that video was released, reinforcing the group’s penchant for extremely dramatic soundtracks and stunning aerial shots of storied, abandoned places. Since our last visit there, stabilizing elements have bene added that somewhat mar the impact of the castle but it’s still an amazing place to see. And the best part: you can actually visit Bannerman Island yourself, through tours led in partnership between the Bannerman Island Trust and New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.” Written and photographed by our friends from @untappedcities!!! "Rhiengold Beer's former site in Bushwick had a radius of about 10 blocks. The current owner has been divvying up parcels to other developers. This is the second development ODA will be designing for the site. It will encompass one million square feet over two city blocks and have 800-900 units, as well as an entire system of interconnecting courtyards and common spaces that break from the street grid, an 18,000 square foot central park, and a 60,000 square foot rooftop with an urban farm and recreational spaces including a pool. If developers work in sync, this area could rival Hudson Yards as a model for micro-cities of the future as both have the rare opportunity to really think through such large parcels and build harmoniously.” How cool is this, right?! The Strangers Project - “What’s Your Story?” .
