Marlene sat down in the empty classroom, her elbows place on the table in front of her, chin resting on her hands comfortably as she blew on a strand of stray hair. After Bellatrixâs little spell, sheâd found her gorgeous mane had been turned into a mess of flyaways and frizzy hair. Oh, how she wished she couldâve been able to retaliate- Marlene had to admit, the gluing her tongue to the roof of her mouth before lashing out? That was absolutely brilliant. If there was one thing no one could take away from the eldest Black was the fact that she was quite talented with that wand of hers.Â
Itâd already been a few minutes since detention had official started and Flich had already gone out to fetch the âmissing rascalâ. Apparently, he quite enjoyed being in charge of sitting in a room with some students for a few hours as punishment. The brunette found her train of thought broken by the sound of the door opening, pulling her away from her trance like state as she turned to see if Flinch had finally returned to interrupt her peace and quiet. However, the small frown she wore at this idea only deepened when she realized who had stepped inside, âThis day just got a thousand times brighter, yay.â If the lack of enthusiasm wasnât enough, the way she turned away from the girl and rolled her eyes surely shouldâve been enough indication to represent exactly how sarcastic the comment was. âFlichâs out looking for you, he doesnât look to happy.âÂ
@bellablack-tfo
Six years already at this bloody school and the staircases could still turn her around. Her common rooms were in the dungeons of the castle which meant she didnât need to try and navigate them on a daily basis. One swing of the stairs and she ended up in a completely different wing. Ridiculous. Just as she had rounded the corner, Bellatrix had caught sight of Filch leaving the room that she was meant to be entering. He was undoubtedly looking for her. She immediately pulled back into an alcove and let enough time pass by to make sure the hallway was clear before continuing on her way. Â
She was only a few minutes late and she would simply tell him the truth that he must have just missed seeing her walk into the room. When she walked in, McKinnon was already there. Joy. Of course the little lion would be there first and on time. She didnât look any happier than she felt about having to spend even more time together and so Bellatrix made sure to lean against a table that wasnât in the other girlâs immediate vicinity. âWell Iâm here for him to find when he comes back.â she shrugged her shoulders, unconcerned.Â
rcgulus-black:
âYou canât take the worry away from me. Especially when youâre always- at the brink of trouble.â Although they had very different views regarding the family beliefs, Bellatrix and Sirius both shared a recklessness and impulsivity that always gave Regulus a heart attack. He pouted a little when she ruffled his hair. He didnât mind that he was constantly treated like a child, and that sometimes they underestimated his capabilities. With his youth and naĂŻvety, he didnât care for much at all. As long as his family was together, he was perfectly alright. âFair point. But I also donât want you to suffer under a Torture Curse, so. How about taking my advice and maybe being a little- um, careful? I guess?â He missed Sirius despite his betrayal, despite the words he had said to Regulus. But he knew better than to bring it up to any member of the family. He was constantly reminded to never speak of him, never even think of him. The Black family expected Regulus to even forget he had a brother, but how heartless did one have to be in order to do that? Regulus could not, even in the slightest, bring himself to do so. Â
Even though she was the older, why did it always seem that Regulus was the one trying to watch out for her? She appreciated that he cared enough to voice his opinions with her and she never wanted him to feel as if he couldnât talk to her. So she nodded and gave a small smirk. âI can at least promise to try.â If everyone else would stop being so stupid, then she would have no reason to teach them their place. Muggleborns and blood traitors with no care as to how they should behave in the presence of their betters. They thought they could be her equal or disrespect her without consequence. Here at her own table, at least she could expect to be around like minded individuals. Like her cousin who had shown his loyalty in light of his brotherâs desertion. âWill you promise to stop worrying so much? You should be enjoying your time here at school.â Bellatrix asked him.
a daughter, not a son. the first in a line of offenses that bellatrix would commit. her hair grew black like her namesake rather than the blonde of her own mother. the second of offenses. her stubborn and independence that could not be tamed by druellaâs hand. the final straw. she could never make her proud without sacrificing herself and so the oldest of the three girls came to accept it. her achievements would be her own.
Druella: You'll never get a husband by being sarcastic.
Bellatrix: All right, no husband.
xluciusmalfoyx:
Lucius chuckled. âAh, well, you see, that isnât particularly insulting. There isnât a student in this school that could beat you in a duel, Bellatrix.â He recalled the year before when she had pulled a particular stunt on another student that had beaten her. But Lucius chose to ignore this in exchange for not getting a mark on his precious skin. Besides, although Lucius was a Slytherin himself and enjoyed the comeuppance of Gyffindor of any and all Gryffindors, he cringed at Bellatrix losing her high position, and at the bridge that may have turned out to be useful down the line. âYou truly are living up to your name, female warrior.â
She was glad that he didnât bring up the incident from the year before. There was still some brains left in that brain of his apparently. In her mind, she had won that battle as the duel had not been truly over until she had ended it by sending the other student to the Hospital Wing. Dueling was something she was good at and she stood out in. Damned if she would let anyone take that from her, but it did bring a sadness to her thinking that this would be last year of it. âI donât know why I bother sometimes.â Bellatrix said with a sigh. âItâs not as if I can simply blast my future husband with a spell whenever he upsets me.â It didnât work that way for pureblood women.
princissa:
Narcissa stood by Bellatrix after the incident in the dueling club because the idea that her sister could ever be in the wrong was unthinkable to her. There was no way that she would ever take anyone elseâs side if anyone in her family was involved. All she knew is that he must have had it coming and trying to mess with someone in the Black family is never something that will end well for anyone. Narcissa was glad that Bella didnât end up expelled after all but certainly believed action had to be taken. âThatâs unfortunate. I can keep an eye on him for you if youâd like? Get him into detention, find ways to get house points taken away. Might not be as satisfying as getting a hex or two in but I can make it work.â
Despite the reprimand and the punishments that she had received for her actions near the end of last year, she still believed that what she had done had been in the right. The boy had had no honor, leaving her on the ground while cheering for his victory. There had been no move to help her up first or a bow to acknowledge a good fight. He had been too excited by the thought that he had put her on the ground. His pride had been his downfall. She had been allowed her retaliation, even if it had sent him to the Hospital Wing. âDonât get yourself into trouble.â That wasnât a yes or no, simply a warning to her younger sister. Narcissa would be careful, but she had never experienced the full brunt of their parentâs displeasure before.
pxtterprxngs:
When Bellatrix attempted to insult his family, James just merely raised an eyebrow. âYou mean the family that loves each other and doesnât disown their own?â James asked smirk still evident on his face. Low blow he knew but that was one of the main things he loved about his family. How accepting they were of almost everyone and how their always seemed to be love in the household whenever he went back home. His eyebrows furrowed however when Bellatrix started talking about protecting traitors and to a lesser extent Peter. He did however almost bark out laughing at her word choice for wormtail. âHarboring? Iâm sorry but please enlighten me how I am harboring my friends?â Â
Gryffindors. They also were a snarky lot and never did know when to shut their mouths. It wasnât like trying to argue with the other two houses. âHarboring traitors.â Here she paused just long enough for him to understand that the thought process in that sentence was over, but not so long that he could interject with a snarky comment. âFriends with rats.â The boy in question would never have even been on Bellatrixâs radar had it not been for his association with her former cousin. Speaking of that boy, she rolled her eyes at his first question. Of course he would see it that way since James had been one of the ones to take him from his family in the first place. âAnd I did love Sirius. It was he who betrayed me.â
rcgulus-black:
Regulus had wanted to spend the summer at his cousinâs. His own house had seemed a little too quiet, and a little too empty without Sirius in it. But his mother adamantly denied, saying it was not the best time to do so. He came to visit a couple of times for family dinners and what not, and he didnât want to leave each time he did. âButââ He hesitated, fingers fumbling with the hem of his robe. He was always hesitant to contradict his elder cousin. Though he knew full well what she did was against the system and the rules of duelling, he knew better than to argue. âYouâre right. Itâs his fault for being a dumbass.â He didnât push much further and resolved to eating whatever was left of his snack. âDonât you think itâs best if you just stay out of trouble this year? I mean you donât want to-â He paused, chest twinging over the thought. âYou donât want to end up getting disowned like Sirius, do you?â The idea of losing another member of the family bothered him, to say the very least. Especially if it was someone as dear to him as his cousins.
Most thought of her as scary and unapproachable which was a reputation that she did little to counter. She commanded a certain level of respect at least within her own house for it. This was a side of Bellatrix that few people ever got to see. Here she was with Regulus with a lighthearted air, just enjoying having him here with her. âDonât worry about me, little cousin.â she gave him a small smile, reaching out to ruffle his black hair a little. It was sweet of him to worry about her, even though she was the oldest and should be watching out for him. âA few detentions wouldnât constitute such a severe punishment.â A stern letter and a reminder of what she would face at home over the holidays perhaps. âI would have to betray the family to be blasted off the family tree and Iâm no blood traitor.â Her words were harsh, but true. That is what Sirius had done after all. Betrayed all over them. His cousins and his own brother.
My life would be so much easier if it wasnât for that thing⌠God, what is that thing called⌠other people.

There was a reason he had never really spoken to Bellatrix, several actually. Starting with the fact that his best mate use to be his cousin and ending with the fact that last year, she had hurt one of his own in dueling club, a fellow Gryffindor. Had it been a fair fight he may have understood but the fact that she blindsided him when he wasnât looking really didnât sit well with James. He had heard about Bellatrix, mostly from Sirius. So he knew that she had quiet the anger in her. If he hadnât been sure about saying something different to spite her was really sure he was doing the right thing now. Especially after calling him an idiot. âOr maybe Iâm just more open minded then you.â James said as a challenge. A cocky smirk on his face now, daring Bellatrix to challenge him. He wasnât quiet sure if he had meant that towards the prophecies or about something else.
There was a very good reason that the fights between their two houses often got out of control, causing a legendary rivalry between them. Neither of them knew how to surrender. His attempt at an insult was much more direct, but the content fell short of offending her. âYes and look where itâs gotten your family.â Bellatrix rolled her eyes. The Potters may e purebloods, but they were blood traitors the lot of them. They were insignificant and as good as a halfblood or even less in her opinion. James Potter could have made something of himself, but it seemed he enjoyed hanging out with the wrong sort. âHarboring traitors and friends with a rat like Pettigrew.â She had never liked the mousy boy. He never seemed to be able to look her in the face. Had he been in her house, he would have be considered a failure and ripped apart. They did not want or allow the weak amongst them.

Marlene was about to speak up, hand reaching for her wand when she was hit by the jinx. Suddenly, whatever words were supposed to come out of her moth were nothing more than odd sounds, seeing as her tongue was currently glued to the roof of her mouth. Good one, Sluggy. Setting me up for trouble. Marlene had never been afraid of Bellatrix, even with all the rumors that went around about her and the stories of her misdeeds, she thought of the eldest Black as a dog on a collar, all bark and no bite. However, standing in front of her unable to utter a single coherent word, Marleneâs opinion on her partner mightâve shifted slightly for the time being. Her blue eyes widened in horror as a wicked grin appeared on the older girlâs face and the words to a new spell escaped her mouth. If Marlene merely disliked Bellatrix before, she surely felt strongly about her now. Slowly, long locks started hitting the ground as the young girl was forced to stand there and let it happen, unable to defend herself. Luckily for her, Slughorn had finally caught on to what had happened and came to her rescue, counteracting the Slytherinâs curse before it made any significant damage. Once again, the brunette attempted to speak up only to find herself still unable to. âItâll wear off in a bit.â Heâd said, but all Marlene could focus on was not the fact that soon sheâd be free of the jinx but that sheâd be able to get her back.Â
She was over the incident, really. Even if she still found herself stuck in the middle of it. Marlene didnât care that she mightâve ended up bald or that sheâd gotten herself in detention during the first week of class, she just knew that as of right now, the oh-so-scary Bellatrix Black should be watching her back.  Â
Her mother had been very adamant that she stay out of trouble this year at school after what had happened last year. This was her last year at this school and she was not to disgrace the family any further. It had been drilled into her head, often by punishments that had been completed behind closed doors where even her sisters were banned from knowing. That had been her summer and she not likely to forget it soon, no matter who annoyed her. McKinnon should consider herself lucky. While she would have much rather preferred to hit the other girl with a spell that would have turned her into a geese, she had had to settle for the much tamer hair loss curse. Old fat Sluggy came ambling over to them as he couldnât ignore the commotion any longer and asked what happened. When the Gryffindor couldnât speak, she couldnât help but smile a little. Excellent. Before he turned around to face her, she put on the best contrite look that she could muster and thought quickly.  âMy bean slipped under my knife and fell on her lap, so she got angry and blew asphodel root all over my face.â Not the best lie she had ever come up with, but the best lies had a little bit of truth in them and she couldnât hesitate. He seemed to consider her answer before saying, âThat may be the case, Miss Black, but that is no reason to react by hitting her with a curse. One weeks detention for you.â That wasnât awful. She would take it. âTwo weeks detention for you, Miss McKinnon, for your temper. Iâll see you both here on Monday.â Wait a minute, both of them? After what had just occurred, the man was stupid enough to put them in detention together? He must be mad. âSplit up and join another group.â and with that he walked away. As soon as he was out of range, her mask fell and her scowl was back.

âYeah, it would be something that he would do,â Alice agreed with a note, not saying that she assumed the rift couldnât really get healed this easily between those two houses, but she also couldnât blame the Headmaster for trying. With what was happening outside of the school walls, it was a necessity, especially with how different ideologies and believes all of them here had. If it really was the Headmaster or somebody else from the faculty, and they managed to bring just a couple of people together, that might change things and make things better for the future. âAnyway, whatever the reason behind these cards, arenât you interested in what yours would say? Just a little bit at least?â
estiny. Fate. It was sort of the same thing and she already knew what her destiny was. âI know what itâs going to say.â Bellatrix was a Black. She was not allowed the luxury of being able to choose most things for herself. Her future husband would have to past muster with her parents and to expedite the process, he would probably be picked for her. She would go on to do as the women in her family had always done and stand alongside their husbands. Perhaps even pop out a kid or two so there were heirs to the family name. What else did she need to know about what was in store for her? ââYou will end up like your mother.ââ she said mockingly with a roll of her eyes.  âIâve saved Miss Echo a person she needs to foretell a future for.â
Andromeda: As some of you know, my sister is a little scary.
Ted: A little?

marlene-mckinnonn:
Marlene shrugged her shoulders at the girlâs comment, choosing to ignore it instead of replying. She knew of the slytherinâs other houses opinion of Dumbledoreâs relationship with the Gryffindors, however, she personally saw nothing of it. Her house was full of clever and outgoing individuals who had a great head on them and a good set of morals to lead the way, any point they had was well earned in her mind. Once the chance to reply had died down, Marlene turned to look at her partner. Sheâd heard the scoffing and the sound of the knife against the bean, leading her to believe that there was a bit of a struggle going on- she was right. The brunette picked up a knife of her own, blue eyes focused on the bean, âHere, Iâll help. Just hand me the-â. Her sentence was cut short by the small yet apparently mighty bean flying towards her, hitting her straight on the face. âOw!â She exclaimed, her hand flying towards the spot where the bean had hit while she turned to look at Bellatrix in shock. Marlene wouldâve been fine with letting it pass as an accident, however, the pleased smile on the girlâs face made it quite clear that itâd be impossible to do so. âYou bitch.â With her thoughts clouded by anger, she picked up what sheâd mashed of the asphodel root and blew it straight to her partnerâs face, making sure her eyes had been wide open as the black powder derived from to roots covered her face. This time, it was Marleneâs turn to flash a smile, entirely pleased with herself. âHonestly? I think you look better like this. Black is a fitting last name, itâs certainly your color.âÂ
It had only been slightly intentional. At best, she thought it might just hit her in in the chest if it even made it that far. She hadnât expected it to work out quite so well as it did, hitting McKinnion straight on in the face at a furious speed and her expression had been one of surprise and amusement. Bellatrix hadnât been prepared for the retaliation that would occur. Suddenly her vision went black as powder flew into her face and her eyes begin to sting. Rubbing it only seemed to make it worse as it drove the particulates deeper into her pores. She reached into her robes for her wand and pulled it out, nearly ripping her robes apart in her haste. Then with a wave of her wand and a quick incantation, the oldest Black quickly cleaned the powder from her face revealing a furious expression.  âHow dare you.â While she was no Narcissa, she was hardly ugly, but her face now had veered in the opposite direction as it contorted into a terrifying appearance. She had always been quick with her wand and she had had plenty of practice with it since coming to Hogwarts. A flick of her wand.  âLanglock.â she said to ensure that the other girl couldnât get a counter spell off. Then she followed it with, âCalvorio.â and grinned wickedly as her hair began to fall from her head. A particular favorite of hers against women.
Marlene bit down on the inside of her cheek as she reached over for the asphodel root, trying her best to concentrate on the assignment rather than laugh at her partnerâs threats and end up both, risking her grade and risking a fight, neither of which she was currently interested in. With the roots in front of her and a tool in hand, Marlene started slowing mashing the roots into smaller pieces which would eventually become the powder needed to complete the potion they had set out to make. Her plan had been to follow Bellatrixâs suggested one, make the potion avoid talking more than what was essentially needed. However, with how competitive the young girl could be, it was practically impossible for her not to reply. Marlene raised an eyebrow, her eyes still locked on her hands as they continued to mash the ingredient, âSo nice of you, really. Though I think you might o be forgetting which house won the last inner cup? Iâll give you a clue, it starts with g and ends with ryffindor. I think that should help you figure it out. âÂ
The two didnât even have much of a reason to hate each other on a personal level. The other girl was a full year below her which meant that they had no classes together. Their extracurricular didnât overlap as it would take a cold day in hell to get her on a broom in the air. It wasnât as if the younger girl had once stolen someone she was interested in, as if she were even on the same caliber as her. Bellatrix Black and Marlene McKinnon simply hated each other because thatâs what happened with Gryffindors and Slytherins. Her feud with Emma Vanity was simply fuel to the flame. âEveryone knows youâre Dumbledoreâs pet house.â she said with a scoff as the struggled with the damn bean under her knife. It was refusing to cooperate with her by staying still on her cutting board and it seemed liked every time the blade tried to pierce the shell, it would shoot away and she had to do twelve of these.  âYou werenât winning until he decided to give points to your house like it was candy.â Her dark eyes glanced over at her and then at the ingredient below her palm. An idea struck. If she turned her hand just so and applied just enough pressure on that side of the knife, PEW the bean went flying straight at the Gryffindorâs head.
