If Cang Qiong was more of a family (and less concerned about outward appearances/ rumors popping up about their incompetence and other negative portrayals), then this would be hilarious.

Especially when it comes to Shen Qingqiu.

For once, all the disciples, even when their shizun tells them to direct their question to the Qing Jing peak lord instead, are too scared to actually ask Shen Qingqiu. They know that the peak lord will bite their head off, assign them punishments, and more as the rumors say.

But! But! But!

They have no choice! If they don't go to ask Shen Qingqiu, they won't be able to complete their mission or assignment and then they would be even more screwed! So they go asking their fellow peers for tips on how to approach the Qing Jing peak lord and so forth.

The disciples, like all teenagers and kids, are quick to pick up things. Like the fact that Shen Qingqiu will scowl and scold, but he's softer towards the female disciples and will answer the questions thoroughly. It's best to ask him questions after his tea break, especially when he's eating something sweet. Never approach the man if Yue Qingyuan was spotted on the peak the same day.

(A little black market forms. The female disciples make good money by asking questions on behalf of their male fellow students. Older disciples sell information about when and how to ask questions towards Shen Qingqiu. One smart An Ding peak compiles a "FAQs" book of questions that Shen Qingqiu frequently gets from disciples; it can be borrowed by the hour.)

Something else that the disciples notice? The way that Shen Qingqiu's punishments are actually no more harsh than their own shizun's regular punishments. They notice how Shen Qingqiu's favoritism towards girls is nothing more than a overprotective paternal affection - and some misbehaving disciples who snuck into town even reported of how the peak lord's visits to the brothel always resulted in the whole place being shut down.

(The male disciples all applaud the Qing Jing peak lord's... uh... manliness. But only in private! Still, they theorize Shen Qingqiu's ability to please women and then some decide to mimic the peak lord's lifestyle to see if it would help them out with the ladies too...)

i love shen jiu because there’s just something deliciously horrifying about a character who was meant to be redeemed becoming doomed in the story because an author was pressured by readers to go in a different direction. what a cosmic horror for the character! you had the potential for good, the potential to be redeemed. all the seeds were there, and because of a million invisible hands you will never be able to comprehend you are thrust into the place of the villain. you cannot be saved and even when you are it can’t be as yourself.

it’s so interesting bc mxtx protags tend to be like ‘you were a hero because it is what was asked of you. but now that the world refuses it for you will you still choose to be good’, but sy is the only protag for whom that choice just…never quite comes?  there’s never quite a moment where being good would be the harder choice for him. even when he dies for bq there’s the threat of system failure & the knowledge that he has a chance of coming back. at every turn his goal IS to be kind, as dictated by a seemingly omniscient being. in that way, sj occupies a much more traditionally tragic mxtx protagonist role - whenever he IS kind, he is ostracized by the world. when he tries to save lqg, when he’s kind to nyy, when he tried to shield qht…what did that get him? 

it’s soooo interesting that like many mxtx characters, he’s seen by the world to be awful but internally does try to do good, but because he is doomed by the narrative he never gets anyone who /understands/ him, which is the grace that redeemed both wwx and xl at their lowest points. yqy is the closest to fitting this role for sj, but he like. was a COWARD about shit and never tried to heal the rift between him and sj and also semi-believed the rumors by the end. he wasn’t like mxtx mls who are defined by 'even if the world is against you, i believe in your heart’

yqy was like i will protect you without the i will believe in your heart part, which would’ve felt worse for sj. like he can protect himself fine!!! he needed someone to just, understand that he wasn’t the evil person ppl said he was.

a lot of people have spoken more eloquently than me abt how sj was deprived of the chance to be good because of his circumstances within the narrative, but i’m just fascinated by how he was deprived of the chance to be good because of something greater than that, a mass of god-like beings outside of the story, exerting their will for a black and white narrative where he can be the one to blame. even when he could’ve been redeemed, he couldn’t have. the world literally refused him the chance.

i unironically think lbh would get along with baozi baby lqg, as long as he does not monopolize shizun. and we all know that fighty baby prefers sj more anyways LMAOOO. brawling brothers 😤!

all those years doing shen yuan's job and taking care of the other disciples gives luo binghe unmatched baozi wrangling skills. truly, the protagonist's halo can defeat all.

unlike wangxian and hualian who are written as soulmates, perfect for each other, destined to be together in the end, with not even death being able to keep them apart. bingqiu are also perfect for each other but only because they are both so fucked up in such a specific way that they only work together.

sqq had far too much internalised homophobia to ever date a man other than the perfect protagonist, who everyone has to be in love with. he also will not date any women because then he would be stealing wives from lbh's harem and how will he cope if he only has 348 wives instead of 349 and lbh is so obsessed with sqq that he refuses to so much as look at anyone else
