title: when youâre not listening summary: Luna misjudges the relationship between Bellamy and Clarke. In response to this post by @bell-clarke.
The sleeping quarters were modest: a long, narrow bed; a desk decorated with scattered papers and spilled ink; a small, circular window; a lit candle that bathed the room in a dim orange glow. It smelled of sea water and rust. The metallic odor burned at Clarkeâs nostrils, distracting her from the fact that she wasnât alone.Â
There was a fine line, Clarke had found, between being honest and being appreciative. It turned out, that Clarkeâs honesty had struck Luna, who was under the impression that a romantic entanglement existed between she and Bellamy, as ungrateful complaint.

So, this is my first bellarke/murven/The 100 fic but this idea has been in my head since forever, and I canât get it out of my head. Iâm working on getting an ao3 account, but updates will always come through here. Iâm also getting a playlist together for this fic, so hopefully Iâll have that up too. Anyways, any likes and comments are loved and will probably result in my tears! So, here we go!
It started with Bellamy getting engaged.
Clarke had known it was coming, so she was prepared. Still, that didnât stop her from blubbering like an idiot over someone she had never even dated. Bellamy was her best friend. Her person. Really, the closest thing to family she had since everything with her mom had happened. She just couldnât believe that it was real. That Bellamy and Echo were getting married. Â When he first introduced her to the group, she figured sheâd last a month, maybe two. But a month became two and then six and then it was two years. Eventually, Clarkeâs friends became Echoâs friends, and even she had to admit that while the other was a little hard to get to know, she was good for Bellamy, and a killer beer pong partner.
She was happy for them, she told herself, as Echo flashed the ring around the room and Bellamy swept Clarke into a hug. She had even said the words. To both of them. She deserved a prize.

Give Me Your Fate by @asroarke
Not a blonde hair out of place, her suit perfectly tailored, the kind of person he was used to seeing around Washington. Bellamy glanced over at Marcus, catching the smirk on his lips as he watched this girl. She must be why they were here.
âWho is this girl?â Bellamy asked, leaning in toward Kane.
jason rothenburger: bellarke? nah.Â
eliza and bob: screw it, weâll do it ourselves
anonymous said: I get that scene was also a final tribute to Clxa and Lxa apologising and blessing Bellarke. But this has confused and annoyed me for a long time: so Clarke is willing to give up everything including her friends, Bellamy, hundreds of innocents FOR MADI HER CHILD AS A MOTHER WOULD. But she canât destroy the Flame which she knows puts Madi at risk and compromises her childhood, but she then tells Madi that she loved Lxa but thatâs ânothing compared to how much I love youâ. It doesnât add up to me.
[this wasnât on anon but i get the feeling, because of other things, that it was meant to be on anon, so I am taking the name off. if you prefer to speak under your own name, sorry. but i thought itâd be better to be safe than sorry.]
One of the things you have to do when you come upon a story point that doesnât seem to make sense, is to first look at what you think is happening, and WHY it doesnât make sense, doesnât fit.
Okay so for Clarke, Madi > Bellamy > Humanity > Sky Crew > Lxa. These are the choices she has made. But then you have a problem because it comes back around to FlameLxa > Madi⊠And then she sends FlameLxa AND Madi into battle to save Bellamy, so itâs back to Bellamy > FlameLxa-Madi. So it gets really confusing and seems to contradict what sheâs done so far.
Iâm not sure it does, though. I think itâs a complication. So I think we have to look DEEPER into the events and motivations to understand WHY Clarke acted the way she did. I actually donât find it OOC, but she also behaves differently towards different people, and in different situations. And also, depending upon how mentally stable she is, she makes different choices. ALSO what philosophy sheâs following. That might be an important detail, actually.
And there are a few things to consider. The first thing to consider is that Clarke canât do it HERSELF. She killed Finn, even though it wasnât her fault, and was the best choice, and it ruined her. She could NOT physically kill Lxa although she had the chance, but she COULD choose her people over Lxa and let that play out into her death, which is what happened. But she couldnât destroy the flame with Lxa in it, which we saw, I think like three times? She COULDNâT shoot Bellamy herself, actually she couldnât let Roan kill him either, but she COULD leave him to die at his sisterâs hands. So this is not a simple question either. Not just a matter of doing it herself vs letting someone else do it.Â
All right. Another thing to consider. Who Clarke is DEVELOPS over time. The Clarke from season 1 wouldnât do these things. She killed Finn in season 2 and it damaged her. She turned to Lxa for advice on how to handle that and Lxa told her that love was a weakness, something that, despite not liking it, she has continued to follow except for with ONE personâ Bellamy, all the way through season 4. After six years alone, when she reunites with Bellamy, sheâs off kilter and doesnât really know what is going on, but now sheâs got TWO people, Madi and Bellamy. She discovers that Octavia is a tyrant, Wonkru is a horror, Bellamy has a girlfriend, and she pulls back from everyone but Madi, still considering Bellamy, but not quite at the same level as she used to. Madi came first. When Bellamy risked Madiâs life, as she saw it, Clarke no longer believed that Bellamy was her person. He fell off of her people list, along with everyone else she had lost. Thus. She left him behind to die. Clarkeâs DEVELOPMENT is BACKWARDS. This is called a regression and is not the same thing as being OOC. It is the pain of the past rising up to take the character over.
Now on THIS show, that gives the characters a chance to reconsider their choices and make new decisions and change and grow. The way the characters GROW is really important on this show and should never be underestimated. Some people might think a character growing in canonically developed way is out of character, but it is not. It is character development. A story is ABOUT change. Whether the character acts on the world to change it or the world acts on the character to change them.Â
I think what we have in THIS story is that every season, the world acts on the characters to change them, resulting in characters who succeed or fail depending upon their story. BUT the long term story is how the characters, mainly Clarke and Bellamy, but also the rest of the 100, act on the world and begin to change The WORLD. You can see how Clarke has changed the world by what she has done to save people. In season 5, you can see how Clarke has acted upon BELLAMY to make him the man he is today, and THEN see how Bellamy acts upon the WORLD, to change the situation so that they do not repeat the same mistakes.
Okay. So. If you look at specifically Clarke and Bellamyâs character development over the course of 5 seasons, you can see that they act upon EACH OTHER to change each other. When Bellamy falters, Clarke is there to lead him on. When Clarke falters, as she is NOW in season 5, Bellamy is there to urge her forward.Â
Clarke and Bellamy have been separated for 6 years, but they are still acting upon each other. Clarkeâs memory has given Bellamy a vision for the future and a will to do better. He has therefore become season 1 Clarke in her place has Hero and Golden Prince of the story. While CLARKE has depended upon Bellamyâs memory/calls to SURVIVE, to give her strength to carry on. She becomes the caretaker, of Madi, like Octavia for Bellamy, in whose defense she will abandon everyone. Season 1 Bellamy. But they have not switched selves. They are still in there. They donât need to learn the old lessons again. They need to REMEMBER.
What does this have to do with the seeming contradiction of Clarkeâs priorities?
1. Clarkeâs priorities have CHANGED. 2. They have changed because sheâs internalized what Bellamy has taught her which has not all been good. 3. They have changed because she internalized what LXA taught her. Again. Not all of it good. But she depends on it because it allows her choices to be acceptable to her, instead of killing her soul. 4. They have changed because her world contracted down to one person. 5. They have changed because Bellamy betrayed her and broke her heart⊠not just because he put the flame in madi, but because he moved on and was not hers and did not love her like her fantasy and was not her family, and perhaps on an irrational level, because HE LEFT HER BEHIND. She responds from a broken heart, not from her reason. She was all heart, not head.Â
You know, even if we donât take into consideration her shifted priorities, which DO seem to be in conflict and constantly changing, I think I just want to bring up another sequence of scenes that might actually have something to do with this. Just occurred to me because i just reblogged the gif. BUT.
Season 2. After killing Finn and Bellamy wants to risk his life to go into MW, and Clarke says NO because she canât lose him too. AND YET, by the end of the episode, sheâs telling him this mission is worth the risk of his life.
So HEâS seeing Clarke not care about Bellamyâs life, considering him to be a low priority, right? BUT WE KNOW WHY SHE SAID THAT. Itâs because she asked Lxa how to deal with the pain of losing the person she loved, and and Lxa told her to give up all love because love was a weakness. What does Clarke say? âI was being weak. Itâs worth the risk.â Love=weakness. She was being weak=her motivation for keeping him safe was love. She didnât STOP valuing him or loving him. She pushed away feelings of love in order to not be weak in order to lead.
Okay. So letâs go back to this season where Clarkeâs position on sacrificing Bellamy seems to place him as less important than Madi and the flame where in a minute sheâll send Madi into danger with the flame in her head. To the person who wants to control them both. hmm. And war. With bombs.
Clarke thinks Bellamy is dead, and sheâs pushed away all softer emotions, including even love for Madi, as she turns to more and more extreme measures to keep her âsafe,â torture, confinement, kidnapping. (wow thatâs almost like what Lxa did to her.) Why? Because love is a weakness and she has to protect her people, who is just one person now. As Echo pointed out. When she finds out that Bellamy is alive, though, things start to change. She is visibly affected and admits to always caring about Bellamy. When Madi gets involved, then we start getting into the meat of the issue. Because she returns to the person who told her the first time that love was a weakness. FlameLxa tells her that she was wrong. Love is NOT a weakness. And betraying her at MW was her biggest regret in life. (aside from being a terrible political decision, what matters to her is betraying CLARKE who we know is her true love.) And FlameLxa brings it DIRECTLY back to Bellamy, who is the subject of conversation. And FlameLxa TELLS her NOT to do the same thing she did to Clarke.Â
THIS is a reversal of s2. Rather than dealing with Finnâs death at her hands, she discovers Bellamy did not die at her hands. Lxa/FlameLxaâs advice is THE REVERSE. Rather than telling her love is a weakness, she tells her love is NOT a weakness. This goes back to one of her most damaging periods in her life and she is told that the path she took to deal with it was the wrong path. She is told this by the person who told her to take this path, and then continued to hurt her for two half seasons. It was both an apology and an acknowledgement that what she did was unjust and wrong. And THUS, Clarke is able to turn on a dime and reverse her decision. She got closure.Â
Love is a weakness, sacrifice Bellarmy. Bellamyâs not deadâ love is NOT a weakness â SAVE Bellamy. Reversal. Fixing the choices that caused the damage last time.
But what about this love thing. Loving Lxa, Loving Madi. Loving Bellamy. This quantitative I will save you over the other because I love you more. Okay so thatâs been my simple equation, but I donât think itâs the only way to look at things. Because there are other things in play. Like Bellamy poisoned Octavia specifically for Clarke, but it was a head decision because doing so also saved Clarke, Madi, Wonkru, his family and Eden. So his love for Clarke was canonically why he did it, but his reasons were many.
I mean, my biggest problem with thinking putting the flame into Madiâs head is equivalent to throwing Bellamy into the fighting pit is that putting the flame into Madiâs head doesnât kill her. While in some way things could get more dangerous, I think she gets more protections from having the flame. Clarkeâs feeling that taking the flame leads to death is not really exactly true. I mean other than being a warrior and a leader risks your life. Which was happening ANYWAY. YES it would have been safer to stay in eden and never get involved, but itâs too late anyway and Madi was made Octaviaâs second (her second was the first to die in the battle in the gorge btw, indicating that position was NOT more safe than being commander.) Clarke DECIDED that the flame was worse than death. But it isnât really. I HONESTLY believe that Clarkeâs reasoning was compromised by fear and by a broken heart. When Bellamy saved everyone by having Madi take the flame, she took it as the last straw in a betrayal that (I think) started when he left her behind to die on earth, forgot about her and fell in love with Echo, and THEN made the choice she was against because of her fear and loss and pain.Â
But all the fans are acting as if the Flame is actually as bad for Madi as Clarke thinks it is. I just donât see it that way and neither does Bellamy. He recognizes the risk, but is doing his best to minimize her risks and care for her and protect her, as a freaking FATHER would. And he did it so he AND madi could save Clarke. It was his plan, but Madi consented. She wanted to save Clarke AND she wanted to save her people.Â
Hereâs a reason for why Clarke reversed her decision about Madi, the flame, and Bellamy. Because once she was out of her emotional reaction and fear of her trauma happening all over again, she realized she had made a mistake leaving Bellamy to die, betraying Wonkru, and keeping Madi from being Commander. She realized that while love was NOT a weakness, and she COULD protect the people she loved, it was not THE ONLY consideration.Â
When she allowed that Madi could be protected while she was Commander, and that Madiâs choice should have a part to play, and that she could save wonkru, Raven and Bellamy, she let go of all the fear and did what she had to do. Which, maybe, was to TRUST the people she loved? That includes Madi AND Bellamy. OH. And Raven, because the only way they could take down McCreary was the unspoken trust between Clarke and Raven. Oh. interesting.Â
Anyway. I am not really bothered by the seeming contradictions in Clarkeâs reversal of decisions and her love for people and seeming priorities. Because that scene is the confluence of MULTIPLE storylines and character arcs. A LOT of stuff goes into it. I mean, I just gave you a half dozen reasons why what happened might have made sense and I actually think any of them could work or all of them. I also donât think that love is really that simple. You can love more than one person and love them in different ways and you can make mistakes and do things you regret and you can change your mind. Oh. And you can save you can save today. And Clarke said. Go. Save. Him.
Stay With Me
âJust go to bed, Clarkeâ she murmurs to herself, her voice breaking the silence in her dark apartment. She drags herself from the couch into her bedroom with great effort and tries to ignore the ache in her muscles that comes with standing on your feet in surgery for hours on end.
Without turning on the light, she wiggles out of all her clothes and falls onto her bed in just her panties. She cuddles her pillow, relishing in itâs coldness. Itâs the middle of summer and theyâre currently in the middle of a heatwave in New York, so even sleeping almost naked isnât cool enough.
The sounds of cars honking and people talking seven floors down are present but Clarke doesnât even hear them - sheâs so accustomed to it by now. Sheâs so exhausted anyway that at this point, theyâre just lulling her further into a deep sleep.
What does startle her from her peaceful doze is a shout coming from next door. Itâs sudden and loud - a muffled name being called and Clarkeâs eyes snap open. Clarke knows his voice instantly.
Sheâs seen her neighbour around a few times, just passing in and out. A polite âhelloâ here and there and she even borrowed some milk from Bellamy once. It made him her most friendly neighbour - and her most attractive one. Clarke doesnât have time for friends with her job so she made no real effort to get to know anyone since moving in here, but itâs still nice to know Bellamy is next door if she needs anything.
Sheâs sure it was him that shouted, but since thereâs silence again now, Clarke closes her eyes. Maybe she imagined it.
Their walls are paper-thin so the next time he shouts, Clarke knows sheâs right. She lifts herself up onto her elbows and cranes her neck to listen again.
âOCTAVIAâ a scream radiates through the concrete once more, clearer now. Clarke hasnât known him to live with anyone and even though she sees girls coming and going every now and then, sheâs sure he isnât dating anyone seriously. Is he having an argument with someone? Maybe on the phone or in person?
Clarke finds it odd at this late hour but still, itâs possible.
âPlease donât take her!â He screams again and this time, Clarke is up as quick as a gunshot and no longer tired. In fact, her adrenaline is pumping like she canât get in there fast enough. Her heartbeat rushes blood to her ears and it pounds as she pulls on one of her baggy t-shirts that she uses when she paints. The shouts continue, louder now and more severe. Heâs not arguing with someone - heâs afraid.

Can you recommend any good bellarke fics?:)
Absolutely!
You can check out my AO3 tag with fic recs here. I keep adding to it, but the fics that are in there right now are all FANTASTIC so Iâm positive youâll find something you like in there. :)
And my fanfiction tag on Tumblr is here (itâs mostly fic recs from other people for my own reference but I also reblogged some drabbles/one-shots I like that people have posted on Tumblr).
There are so many fics Iâve read that I adored but unfortunately I canât remember which specific ones they all are (but they should be bookmarked on AO3). I do remember certain fics so Iâll put some of my absolute all time favourite fics below.*
*Since I donât know everyoneâs tumblr usernames (and for navigation purposes), Iâm listing all the authorâs AO3 usernames!
âTo My Favourite Scar (To All Of The Stars)â by prosciutto
Short disclaimer: Iâve recently been working my way through all of prosciuttoâs Bellarke fics so a decent amount of my fic recs are by that specific author. I can say that she is absolutely AMAZING and I have yet to be disappointed by a single thing she has ever written. I HIGHLY recommend reading her stuff.
Anyway. This fic is just fantastic. Itâs a Modern AU with Bellarke as co-captains of their exy team (which is delightful!) and itâs got all the great enemies-to-friends-to-lovers angst and fluff a girl could ask for. I have to admit that I was hesitant to read it at first because Iâm not much into sports so I wasnât sure how much I would enjoy it but I am SO glad that I did because it is one of my favourite fics ever. A must-read.
âYouâre Just Another Recovering Heartâ by prosciutto
This is a Season 5 spec fic and it BROKE MY HEART A MILLION TIMES OVER (but in the best of ways, ya know?) Itâs so emotional and beautiful and an example of canonverse at its very best.
âKept Going, Kept Rolling with Nowhere to Goâ by marauders_groupie
This is a modern travelling AU and I REALLY enjoyed it. Thereâs so much great character work in this one (especially for Clarke) and its just really emotional and beautiful.Â
âSleight of Handâ by prosciutto
This is a longer multi-chapter fic where Bellamy and Clarke are basically trying to pull of a heist. It is absolutely BRILLIANT, especially if you are into fic with longer chapters (like me).Â
âUp The Anteâ by prosciutto
Companion fic to âSleight of Handâ - if you liked the first one, you canât miss it.
âIn the Skylines up Aheadâ by prosciutto
If you enjoy soulmates AUâs, this fic is about to become your life blood. Be warned. Itâs stupidly cute.
âThis is a Song About Somebody Elseâ by grumpybell
I cannot express how much I loved this fic. It was SO good I read it twice. Back to back.
The universe is unique because it is post-apocalyptic but in a different universe than The 100 so it has a very similar feel to the canonverse but also manages to be its own entity. The character work in this one is just phenomenal and the relationship development makes my soul weep with the beauty of it. And, itâs a three part fic with long chapters (my absolute FAVOURITE). Thereâs a lot of angst in this one, but it never comes off as being heavy-handed.Â
Basically, what Iâm trying to get at is this fic is emotional and beautifully written and perfect so why are you still looking at this when you could be reading it right now????
âweâre too good at goodbyesâ by LaughingSenselessly
This is another Season 5 spec fic and after reading it I basically just wanted to mail it to Jason Rothenberg and be like âscrap all your s5 scripts - I have a better one for youâ. Thatâs how good it is.Â
It is so emotional and angsty and AMAZING in every way - it displays such a clear understanding of the characters and was so well-written. I could barely function after I finished.Â
âi think itâs called loveâ by LaughingSenselessly
This is a modern setting high school AU and I donât know what to say about it without spoiling other than to say it is AWESOME and everyone reading this should definitely read it! But, then again, I think LaughingSenselessly is physically incapable of writing anything bad so is this really a surprise???
âI dreamed you a sin (and a lie)â by monroeslittle
I have to be honest: its been awhile since Iâve read this fic so I donât have too many details to add about it (other than that itâs an FBI AU) but I do distinctly remember dying over how much I enjoyed it. So donât miss it.
âin this house on the cornerâ by ofhobbitsandwomen (litvirg)
The birth of my love for modern auâs began with this fic. I donât think Iâve ever recovered since. It has the best kind of angst and the way this fic unfolds is honestly masterful. I was so sad when it ended (and now you must be sad too! but first, you have to read it and LOVE it like I did).Â
âWeave Me A Myrtle Crownâ by AJRedfern
WARNING: this fic has not been updated in over a year and it doesnât look like it will be any time soon!
THAT being said, there is still almost 80k words of pure beauty RIGHT. THERE. And you would be a fool to pass that up because this firefighter!Bellamy/paramedic!Clarke fic is literally to die for.Â
PLUS, it doesnât even end in a wholly unsatisfying place - a few things are left unresolved but as for the Bellarke stuff (which is the most important part) the only unsatisfying part about it is that I WANT MORE!!! But, if the writer so chose to, they could probably have just chosen to wrap up the fic in the same place that their relationship is at where it is in the latest chapter.Â
SO. Even though this fic is incomplete, I still absolutely recommend it.
âHow You Stay Aliveâ by LaughingSenselessly
I might have weeped for joy when I saw that there was 88k words of a Bellarke reincarnation AU and I was definitely not disappointed. Each chapter is better than the last and it has one of the most satisfying endings in any fic Iâve ever read. Really great in every way.
âHow to Save a Kingdomâ by LaughingSenselessly
A prequel to HYSA, but it doesnât require you to actually read HYSA beforehand to follow it (although, as someone who did, I think youâd appreciate it more if you had ;)). I loved it just as much as âHow You Stay Aliveâ and it deserves all the love!
âMeet Me in the Morningâ by monroeslittle
In this fic, Bellamy and Clarke are trapped in a time loop in early Season 1, and everything that happens after that is just great. I have so much love for this fic and its premise.Â
âPicking Up What Youâre Laying Downâ by verbaepulchellae
This modern AU has literally everything that a girl could ask for. It is a mixture of smut, angst (the ANGST!! *shakes fist*), and a healthy amount of fluff, too. AND, the best part is thereâs almost a whole 120k of it! Iâve read this fic multiple times and lost multiple nights of sleep where I simply contemplated how bloody amazing it was.Â
From checking the description, you may think this is just an average smut fic. But - believe me - it goes way deeper than that (if you like more than smut in your fics) and everything about this fic is to die for.Â
âSurvivorâs Guiltâ by LaughingSenselessly
Odds are youâve heard of this one because - letâs be real - itâs essentially the holy grail of Bellarke fanfic. But, nonetheless, Iâll still recommend it because this is probably the single best canonverse fic Iâve read. Like, ever. It was completed awhile ago now, but it still holds up amazingly well and Iâve read it start to finish two times now and it was STILL incredible the second time around. This fic should be required reading in the Bellarke fandom, Iâm not even kidding.
Thatâs not even close to all of my favourite fics out there but they should all be in my recommendations on AO3 so if you read all those, and still want more, do check it out! Hope this was helpful, nonny.
Happy reading!
this is beautiful, truly sums up the showÂ
Okay not to wade into The Clarke/Murphy Discourse, but HERE IS THE HOT TAKE FROM ME:
I never bought the idea that Murphy should inherently support Clarke and be on her side out of his âsurvivorâ or âcockroachâ mentality⊠The argument is basically that he understands looking out for yourself and your immediate loved ones and being willing to betray or discard other people, so he wouldnât hold it against her that she did that.
First of all, bold of you to assume the John Murphy who yelled about Echo not being there out of the ~goodness of her heart~ back in S4 is not kind of a hypocrite. XD
But mostly, like, just because Murphy *understands* it does not mean heâs HAPPY to be one of the people who gets betrayed or discarded?! Heâs got a whole history of holding grudges on people for doing exactly that to him, even at times when he âgetsâ why they did it. JUST FOR ONE EXAMPLE watch him get pissed off at Bellamy for screwing over him and Emori to save Octavia. His default position is like, âYeah I mightâve done the same thing but I know Iâm an asshole. You donât get to think youâre a good person who did the right thing.â
Just saying⊠Murphy might recognize Clarkeâs Slytherin tendencies, but thatâs literally the reason he canât trust her and heâs only ever been her âfriendâ as far as their interests aligned with each other. A cynical understanding that someone has their own agenda and no reason to give a shit what happens to him has never made him *like* that person more.
ââ
Now, a lukewarm take â I didnât love the direction they ultimately went with Clarke last season. For me it ties into larger problems I have when the show stacks the deck a little too much toward putting a character in the âwrongâ to a degree where itâs either OOC or hard to come back around to liking/rooting for them, when ideally both sides of the conflict should be more balanced and ambiguous (which I really! thought it was! up until like the last third of the season!) And I also get why a lot of Clarke fans are frustrated with how often sheâs isolated or critcized by other characters, to the point where thereâs defensiveness even when IMO sheâs doing stuff she *should* apologize and get criticized for.
(Side note, here is where I will say my most Clarke-defensive thing of the post â âspacekruâ acting mostly through Murphy actually fucked a major thing up last season. They were the ones who caused the civil war that overthrew Diyoza and brought McCreary into power. Okay, they had no idea what the *ripple effect* of that would be and thought they were helping â but ultimately, along with many other characters, they had a role in the chain of events that led to an extremely preventable war and the valley being destroyed. And so far, thereâs been no atoning or taking responsibility for that for any of them. Iâm not saying theyâre totally equivalent, but Clarkeâs not the *only* one who made bad choices that I think should be acknowledged. If that campfire scene turned into Your Fault from âInto the Woodsâ I would not be unsatisfied.)
But since they went there, yes, Murphy has every right to address the fallout of her choices, how it affected him & people he cares about personally, and be characteristically bitter about it. Honestly the most promising thing I heard at NYCC, from both Bob and Eliza, was that characters will talk things out more. So although my expectations are pretty low, to me Murphy and Clarke being at odds with each other again sounds exciting and will probably actually lead to them working together. (MAYBE JUST MAYBE itâll lead to resolving the tension between them, maybe theyâll even both have solid POVs, I can dream.)
Anyway keep in mind we havenât even seen how thisâll play out in the show yet, weâre literally just going on JRoth whoâs been misleading and emphasized weird things before. I just strongly disagree with people who are *already* annoyed and calling it OOC that Murphy isnât Clarkeâs biggest fan because it doesnât match their fic or headcanons. JOHN MURPHY HOLDING ONTO HIS ANGER? ITâS MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK.
Okay this gif makes me wanna actually cry.
Like âselfish John Murphyâ sees Raven with her bad leg running, so he runs toward her and grabs her. Like itâs so badass too because there are no words and neither of them slow down.

The Victorian houses in the nice part of town
His motherâs ex-boyfriend gets Bellamy a summer job on his construction crew, fixing up the Police Chiefâs house. From what Bellamy can see, it doesnât need much fixing. But itâs getting a new roof anyway, and a new coat of paint, and a remodeled kitchen, and heâs getting paid by the hour, so he canât complain. The job starts at the beginning of June, a week after he graduates from high school, eleven weeks before he leaves for NYU.
A little before noon on his first day, he takes his thermos of coffee out to the sidewalk across the street from the house, sits down and slings his arms around his bent knees. He tilts his head back and takes in the angle of the sun, nearly directly above him and washing out the sky to a blue so pale itâs almost white. A high breeze rustles through the leaves on the trees. The clouds above, thin and wispy streaks of white, pull to pieces and drift free.
Bellamy doesnât make it often to this part of town: the nice part, the Victorian houses up in the hills, with their wraparound porches and real shutters, most of them three stories tall. Later, the sun will move toward the horizon and the leaves from the trees will throw shapes and patterns on the mint green and dark yellow and off-white of the housefronts, and Bellamy, standing on the front porch of Captain Millerâs house, will see this perfect angle of the light and feel something, some weight perhaps that was dragging him down, come loose in his chest and fall away. There will be sweat on the bridge of his nose and on his forehead, and a slight ache in his back, from doing work he isnât used to, and his feet will feel too large in their shoes.
Right now, though, heâs unaware of that handful of seconds but only of the birdsong from the trees and the first scorch of summer sun, and heâs thinking about the rest of his coffee break and the rest of his day. He takes another long drink. Heâs in the in-between time now, not a student anymore or yet again, still living in his motherâs house on the other side of town, with the creaky back step and his sisterâs music always blaring too loud from behind her closed door. He grinds his heel down on a stray bit of stone and listens to it crunch, feels the slide and scrape of it against the pavement through the sole of his boot.
What he does not know is that the weight is already coming loose. It will fall in the afternoon as he stands on the porch and watches the Mayorâs daughter, who lives across the street, as she bikes home late from her last day of school. Sheâs wearing the light blue button-down shirt and plaid skirt of her fancy private school, her backpack, a dark blue, on her back. The sun raises yellow-white highlights in her hair. And sheâs laughing. Sheâs riding slow so the boy walking next to her can keep up, and so she passes by him like a movie played in slow motion: a moment, like the shadows that in their angle signal the ending of his day, that will burn into his brain. When she stops her bike and dismounts, she turns to look at him, and before he knows what heâs doing, he raises his hand at her and smiles.
She smiles back. Thatâs how it starts.

ValÄ: Chapter One
SUMMARY: Clarke and Bellamy struggle with the new responsibilities given to them by Monty and Harper, all the while trying to ignore the storm that grows stronger and stronger between them with every passing moment. Facing a new world of new challenges, their bond is tested and ultimately transformed. Words can only go unsaid for so long, and 130 years is long enough.
[This fic is called ValÄ (âFarewellâ) for a few reasons:
It involves goodbyes but also beginnings.
It is likely to be my last fic for the 100 for at least a long while, probably ever. Iâve fallen out of love with the show, but I still have some unfinished story that I feel these characters deserve, so Iâm using this fic as a sort of closure.
ValÄ can also mean âbe strongâ.]

Chapter One: Flores
*
It was like watching a field of orchids open together under the moon.
Eyes fluttering open to meet light, smiles blooming upon faces, relief bathing the room in peace.
A peace that Clarke was about to obliterate.
Monty and Harper are dead.
She watched Raven sit up and stretch as if she was waking from an afternoon nap.
Monty and Harper are dead.
