31 Days of Fictional Lady Appreciation: A protagonist (½)
↳ Sabriel, Sabriel
“I wouldn’t suppose anyone has seen a very sharp-tongued cat around anywhere? White? Very soft fur?”
Abhorsen, the Keeper of the Dead
It’s finally done guys *sobs* ok time to send out my Ladies of Lit app.
Sabriel in Death by Apetron
Azura was happy to help her new acquaintance find the library, especially when she had just located it herself. The school grounds were almost as big as Hoshido’s square. Azura stopped in realization when the woman said something about getting used to Eiyu. “Ah, we have something in common, then. It’s hard to go from the Kingdom of Hoshido to a school.”
Azura may have been a “prisoner” at her old home, but at least they treated her as a family. Well, except Takumi, but he was hard on everyone. Sakura was always afraid of her scary stories, Hinoka traded gifts with her, Takumi was… Takumi was Takumi, and Ryoma was helpful, even though they had never had a very close relationship.
She wondered if she would ever see them again…
But then she realized she still had someone in front of her, waiting to be escorted to the library.
“Ah, I’m sorry! I was just… thinking about old times. The library is down this path.” Azura said, walking slowly towards the path. “My name is Azura, by the way.”
Sabriel found herself smiling, glad that she wasn’t the only one. “So it would seem. I’m glad it’s not just me...” That made her feel quite a bit better, though the school’s strange atmosphere still gave her an odd feeling. She supposed it was akin to being near one of the Charter stones...thankfully not one of the split ones. Yet it was still hard for her to relax here...Mogget was doing just fine though. He probably didn’t think anything of the strange school.
Or at least, if he did, he didn’t mention it.
“So this is your first time at school then? I hope you enjoy it. It's a good experience to make friends.” She supposed, in a way, this place wasn’t that different from Ancelstierre. She’d just have to find a way to relax.
She pressed her hand to her mouth, to hide the smile chuckle that escaped her. “No worries. It happens.” She was guilty of it herself. Especially rather often, as of late. She followed after, making a careful note of the path so she’d be able to find her way on her own.
“Ah, that’s a pretty name. My name is Sabriel. It’s nice to meet you.”
Aside from being completely bewildered by the strange objects of the outside world, Azura was having a wonderful time. She had just visited the library to gather the materials she needed for her classes, which were heavy books that went by the name of a “textbook”. A satchel was slung around her shoulder, holding the textbooks and a few other books that looked interesting.
As she strolled through the campus, she spotted a woman. She looked as if she was lost, as Azura was when she first arrived at Eiyu. Azura stopped and looked towards the woman, who had her back turned. She muttered something about the library. Azura lit up in realization: she could help this woman!
Azura tapped the woman’s shoulder. “Miss, I know where the library is! It’s a little ways away from here, but I can take you there if you’d like.” She said.
The tap, admittedly, did startle her a bit, and she turned. Of course, she still wasn’t quite used to the varied appearance of the students around here, she couldn’t help but marvel at just how....vibrant some of the hair colors were. This definitely wasn’t Ancelstierre anymore.
Still, the corners of her mouth lifted in a half smile at the stranger’s kindness. “That would be much appreciated honestly,” she responded. “This school is a lot bigger than my old one, so getting used to it has been a bit challenging so far.”
Of course, the mention of Waverly brought a wave of homesickness, accompanied by a wish to meet up with her friends again soon, but she quickly squashed it down to focus on her task at hand. “I’d hate to be a bother though, but if you don’t mind, a guide would definitely help.” Otherwise she’d probably end up lost.
It’d be just her luck to take a wrong turn and end up in a completely different room.
This place was definitely different from the Old Kingdom. There were wards in place, of course, but she couldn’t feel any dead roaming around. Perhaps it should have set her mind at ease, but really, it just made it worse. It gave her a heightened sense of urgency, like there was something she needed to be doing. And she knew exactly what that was.
Sabriel pressed her lips together in a thin line as she looked around once more. Mogget was no help, since he’d already slipped off to see about the food situation, but the cat would show up under her feet when she least expected him.
“Alright....where is the library?” she murmured. Surely, they had some book there that would be of use to her...quest. And then maybe once that was settled, she could come back and enjoy the school more.
Can we talk about this absolutely beautiful Sabriel sketch and the fact that if I had money I would throw all of it at @sebastianciaffaglione for a finished version? (source)
The Abhorsen by Maggie Davidson
Guess what I’ve been reading.
I kind of headcanon Sabriel as Japanese somewhat.
