This happened a few years ago. You may have heard rumors if you’re on campus. Some even circulated online. Nobody knew what really happened. Because I’m the only one who knows and I kept quiet. For a multitude of reasons. None of them matter now. Here’s what really happened.

The four of us were handpicked for this experiment by Prof. Richardson because we’d all studied under him, worked under him, and, as much as anyone can, earned his confidence.

He said this one was different. We had to keep it quiet. He wanted to keep details to a minimum. All he would tell us before going in was that he required a month of our lives and that if he succeeded sleep would never again be a necessity.

this was so weird for me to read because my mother was living with undiagnosed bipolar disorder for over 20 years and about a year and a half ago she stopped sleeping. she didnt sleep at all, not even ten minutes a night. this went on for over three months. no sleeping pills worked. she finally got on an anxiety medication that let her sleep for a little bit a night for two months. then she got bad again, stopped sleeping for several more months. she stopped being able to think or talk or even eat, she hallucinated and walked around in a dream like state. she was a zombie. she finally got diagnosed but the mix of Lithium and a near lethal dose of sleeping meds keeps her in that depressed zombified state. Its really sad, i love my mom more than life but i dont think she’ll ever recover. i worry that she’ll never sleep on her own again. i dont know if she dreams. but i do, i dream of her dying some nights. other nights i dream of her being okay. The dreams where she is okay are the worst because i have to wake up from them
