Ethan looked at her and shook his head, he was taken and he wouldn’t flirt with people. “Uhm, thank you, but I am not that gorgeous, and God didn’t do anything because I don’t believe in him.” Shrugging his shoulders he wanted her to realize that, and also that he was taken. “Decker, you are Chris’s sister aren’t you?” Nodding his head he knew that was true. “Yes, I am. I know your brother.”

Maddie pouted, sighing. “I’m so sorry you feel that way, although God forgives all.” She said, shrugging. All that mattered to Maddie right now was how cute this guy in front of her was. “Yes, that’s me. Oh, you know him! He’s the best, isn’t he? I just wish he had a better job. My father’s a big lawyer back in Connecticut and I always wished that Chris would take a job at his law firm or something, but Chris never did. It’s a shame.”

“Alright – I’ll take the compliment.” He said. As she continued to ramble off into an exiting proposal, Chris’ smile faded slightly, his mouth parting a bit. “I don’t think that’s…a good idea, Mads.”

Maddie’s adorable face turned into a bit of a pout, something her father always would succumb to. She was used to getting her way, getting everything she could ever ask for on a silver platter and so it confused and saddened her to hear this from her brother. “Oh, come on. Don’t be silly. It’s a fantastic idea. My mom wants to get to know you and you can spend good quality time with my side of the family. I mean, they’re your family too. Plus, you’ll get to spend time with Daddy. You’ll love my house. We added on another part of the house if you can believe it from the last time you came over. It’d be so much fun to spend the holidays with both of my families.”

“I don’t plan on finding God.” Ethan chuckled biting his lip. He never believed in religion, it was always a joke to him. “Ethan Brooks, and yours?”

“What a shame then. God can really work miracles, but I see that you’re the living proof. He must have broke more when he made you, darling. You’re gorgeous.” Maddie commented, smiling up at him in her innocent yet coy way. “Madeline Decker, but call me Maddie. Everyone does. It’s a pleasure, Ethan. Are you from around here?”

They don’t give a shit about heaven.  They have their own heavens.  And even if they do, leave it up them and God.  Mind your business,” Wes responded, becoming increasingly irritated with this one though this happened to him often.  “I actually have two children to raise, and they’re gonna be just as liberal as their mothers and I.”

“And here I thought you’d be a southern gentleman.” Maddie sighed, shaking her head. “I’ll pray for your children then and your wife. Lord knows they need it more than I ever could.” She scoffed, holding her chin up high, as if she were better. “I’ll be at your bar tonight, when your show happens. My church group is protesting it.” Maddie smiled, shrugging. “It’ll be fun.”

“You’re disgusting.” Maddie scoffed, glaring, holding her designer purse close to her. “Who even are you?”

“You think you serve the lord? I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t want you to be a complete bitch all the time. There are things that you believe he’s against, and he might well be, but above all else he is about forgiveness. Go back to your church group. You’re not welcome here.”

Maddie rolled her eyes and shook her head. “You think he’s all about forgiveness? Look hat happened to your poor girlfriend. She behaved the way she did, recklessly and stupidly, and look what happened to her. Bless both your souls, I suppose you deserve one another.” She said, handing him a flier. “You could always change that though and come to my prayer circle. Maybe she’ll find strength in it, although she told me she’s not religious, just spiritual. Whatever that means.” She sighed, shaking her head as she looked on at the red head sleeping after a painful procedure. “She’s in pain, isn’t she? God wants her to feel the full weight of her sins.”

“Only those who deserve his forgiveness.” Maddie sighed, looking up at the guy with an arched eyebrow. “You don’t strike me to be one of those worthy.”

“That depends.” Maddie said, turning on her designer heels. “Not everyone is so worthy to be seen in the light of God. And your eyes speak trouble.”

“Trust you? I’m here to try and help your fiancee, honey, to pray for her lost soul and broken bones and rumor has it that you’ve cheated on her. I don’t trust cheaters and neither does God.” Maddie said, dripping with condescension. “I’m with the church group down the hall, we help pray for those in this hospital and it seems like your girlfriend needs it. She was drunk, apparently, when she got hit by the truck. All of her pain is her fault. I have an issue praying for such a soul like her.”

I’d hate to think of the next generation becoming like you.”
