Like I love the idea of bloodymary, I love a lot of the fanart and a lot of the fanfics I've seen and read- but it's starting to get annoying with how people seem to be using to replace their aroace grace headcanon.
And as much as I love queerplatonic and just platonic bloodymary- I'm also a bit salty because Rocky is right there. Stratt is right there. Carl and ilyukhina and yáo and all the other characters from both the book and the movie are right there.
And... I'm just gonna point out something-
Currently, the bloodymary tag has twice as much works as the aroace grace tag does.
And I know there's a lot of aroace grace truthers who write him as aroace- but the number of fics barely changes when I filter out aroace grace in the bloodymary tag
So yeah. I get your frustration and your annoyance because I'm right here with you.

I get that Bloodymary is like funny or whatever, but we FINALLY got some really good Aroace rep and there's some incredible emotional weight that it carries in the story and yet everyone is just

Watching in real time as a fandom desolves into nothing but shipping, sex and romance involving the one character who is most AroAce coded/seen as AroAce (on the repulsed side no less) feels... I don't even have the right words for it.
It feels sort of condescending.
I love how the entire aroace community latched onto Ryland Grace with no hesitation and have used his character as an outlet for frustrations regarding real-world politics surrounding our identities.
Dr. Ryland Grace was arguably the perfect backup candidate for his mission. Stratt got that right. He had no children, no life partner, no family, not even a dog. All he had was his students and that was enough for him, but that made him replaceable.
Right?
Not only were Grace’s wishes completely ignored, his life and his value as a person was undermined. Simply because he had no one but his students to care for his wellbeing, because he wouldn’t have someone at home waiting for him to come back.
Aroace people deal with similar treatment simply because romance and sex are seen as essential to the human experience, completely disregarding any and all other types of connection. One’s inherent value as a person is not lost when they choose to live life without romantic or sexual relationships. One’s value is simply in existing.
Aroace people know this well, which is why so many have become so attached to Ryland as a character. Many of us see his way of life as the end goal for ourselves, so any one of us would have been seen as just as dispensable, by Stratt and by society as a whole.
Aroace people love Dr. Ryland Grace because his life mattered just as much as everyone else’s, and so do ours.
I may just have spent over 3 hours making this single item in Tomodachi Life.
I have too much time on my hands. Help.
To be quite honest with you all I do think that aro/ace-spectrum fans in fandoms where people are desperately inventing crossover ships and humanizing non-human characters in order to have a conventionally attractive guy to ship the main character with, instead of possibly having to enjoy a story with no romance in it, have the right to refer to everyone else as cowards.
Sorry you almost had to entertain the idea that people like me exist, I'm sure that was very painful for you.

Well "The Nice Guys" certainly was an experience. I did not expect it to be about... that kind of topic.
A lot more nudity than I would have thought too.
Regardless a fun movie. I enjoyed it a lot. Holland and Holly were especially funny.
Bonus: I now gotta add Uncle Holland to the Coltlandgentry-whatever-we-wanna-call-the-Ryan-Gosling-Cinematic-Universe AU at this point.

As fun as the Starstruck crack ship sounds like on paper. Give me more of the one-sided Tom and Ryland dynamic.
I wanna read more about Tom seeing Ryland for 0.1 seconds and suddenly having the idea that they are soulmates and need to be together. Only for Ryland (local AroAce with no interest for a romantic and/or sexual relationship) to just not react to any of his moves.
I need to see Tom trying to woo his way into Ryland's pants, only for Ry to not pick up on the signs at first, but Colt immediately realizing what's going on. And Colt knows how Ryland feels about this.
I need to see Colt trying to stop Tom from the sidelines and behind Ryland's back because he knows his brother would hate it if he tried to make a big scene out of it. But it only gets Tom even more eager to try and get together with Ryland.
I need to see Tom going bigger and bigger, not only to get with Ryland but now also to piss off Colt. And I wanna see Ryland finally picking up on all of this. Be it cause Colt finally openly talked to his twin about it, or cause Tom's actions have just gotten so out of proportion that even the most oblivious person would pick up on it.
I wanna see Ryland bring back the bite! The bark! The sass he has from his academia days and actually be the one to turn down Tom. Speaking his mind and making it very clear that he does not want this!
GIVE ME THE ONE-SIDED RELATIONSHIP! THERE IS SO MUCH POTENTIAL HERE!!
Still thinking about the Twins ever.
And sometimes their older brother.
