there has to be more people out there who don’t ship ryland grace with anybody… single aroace ryland grace no need for romance truthers stand with me

me (kind of angrily) ranting about why i dont like ryland grace being shipped with characters- especially rocky and stratt.

a KEY part of rylands character is that he DOESNT have a romantic partner. that his worth was determined BECAUSE of his lack of romance. THIS IS A KEY PLOT POINT. he was sent because he’s not in love with anybody, he doesn’t have family, he doesn’t even have a dog. his worth was determined because he doesn’t have a partner. was it not enough to love earth? was it not enough to love teaching and love his job and interests and his kids? was it not enough to not want to be sacrificed and die? and then people have to ship him with stratt and carl and rocky of all things, and all the crack ships and it just pmo. one, he is asked IN THE BOOK if he and stratt are in love, to which he is REPULSED by the idea. two, he thinks the scientists won’t have sex because they are professionals. that man is aroace through and through. and, rocky and adrian are in love and eridians canoncially mate for life. it just doesnt make sense to ship him with grace. anyway, rant over. i've just seen so much ship art and its tiring me. grace's relationship being friendship with rocky has SO much more meaning than romantic love, and we need more non-romance stories like this

there is a bronze statue of ryland grace outside of grover cleveland middle school. the knuckles on his hands are shiny and worn because it has become tradition for students to give him a fist bump on the way in to school.

i can’t think about how when ryland remembered how he’d gotten onto the hail mary, he didn’t get mad or think of how unfair it was, but instead focused on how much cowardice he’d shown for too long or i get physically sick
