i figured this needed some kind of background and I decided to NOT be lazy for once. I had two versions, but I decided this one was better.

The good doctor had set the whole thing up- a press conference to announce the new business for robots everywhere. She’d called in the media, set up the powerpoint; and all Mary had to do was present it.

Legal Repurposing at Civil Robotics Inc. was described as getting old robots new jobs; anyone who had gone obsolete, or was part of a dead industry or company, or had otherwise been left to die would be given new life and a new chance to keep going. Some have already been gifted with this opportunity- such as Mary herself.

She told her story; a civilian-industry at work in an amusement park that was shut down, its robots scheduled for recycling. She had escaped and kept under the radar for a few years before her new handler found her and legally repurposed her for this new industry.

She gave out a few of the terms for the coverage agreement- robots built after 20XX were covered, but robots born prior- such as the first several generations- needed to apply. She gave the website and other information, business cards and whatnot; giving the camera a shining smile and finding herself comfortable with the crowd.

“Now- are there any questions?” she asked, opening the floor for reporters to begin.”
