Backstory -

Benito was born shortly prior to his parents' divorce, and as a result, he spent his upbringing half in Aurora Bay, where his father resided, and the other half a few hours away from the coast with his mother.

As a young child, there was absolutely no rest for Benito; he was always working on something in extravagant fashion, be it his latest craft project, his attempt at beating the hardest level in a video game, or his promise to catch his neighbour the biggest fish of the summer.

He wasn't the best student in school, despite earnestly trying his hardest. He succeeded better in classes with creative or athletic aspects, and was fortunate to have great teachers who really helped him through the rest.

Benito had no real interest in pursuing further education after completing high school, not wanting to be tied down to one place as he felt he was in school - despite his frequent travelling from one parent's house to the other.

Instead, Benito wanted to live a free, creative, joyous life. He decided that Aurora Bay would be the best setting for such a thing, and he soon found his own small yet charming home in Fisher's Cove.

From his early teen years, Benito always worked odd jobs around town, and often had multiple places of employment. After high school, he used a sum of his savings from his work to invest in an ambitious pottery project, and he quickly fell in love with it.

It wasn't the first time that Benito had engaged in the activity, but the pieces he made were beloved by manner buyers, and the support caused him to pursue pottery as a career.

He kept working elsewhere in the beginning of his pottery career, but it eventually became his only means of an income; after a series he did on TikTok where he made Fortnite based pieces went viral, Benito put more into his creations, and then took his pottery career a step further by becoming an instructor at Timeless Pottery.

Benito certainly mellowed out as he grew older, but he never grew out of always being in the middle of seemingly millions of activities and projects; to this day he thrives best when he's busy.

He's an incredible friend; connection with others is the most important thing to him. Almost all of his actions and decisions are related to somebody else - he's selfless, and he has the biggest heart.

He's somewhat of a hopeless romantic, and even though he tends to always be busy, he's a good partner. He devotes himself to his partner while also staying true to himself and meeting all of his own needs, making his romantic history filled with healthy relationships.

He wants to be everybody's friend, and as he's so extraverted he doesn't struggle initiating friendships with those who are willing. While confident, he's not pushy, and he's generally good at reading signs from those who don't wish for him to come on too strong. He doesn't like to cross anyone's boundaries, and this talent certainly helps.

Outside of creating and instructing his pottery, Benito is often found playing sports, attending gigs and concerts, spending time with friends, creating TikToks, playing Fortnite, and getting himself up to all kinds of mischief with anyone willing to accompany him.

"There's no such thing as too hot for boots," Summer dismisses him with a wave of her hand. "Besides, I have plenty of lightweight ones that are perfect for summer, that's why they're there. For the sake of the game we're gonna go with the sneakers, though, it's kind of cute," she says, setting them on the floor and going to her dresser to pick out a pair of tall socks. "And you do have style, by the way, it just needs to be honed. Will you actually go thrifting with me?" She unballs the socks, dangles them in front of the camera so the chat can see, and then slips them onto her feet. "Personal shopping for people is one of my greatest pleasures in life." @benitocresta

Benito made a face to the camera, as if to say that he didn't believe Summer when she said that it could never be too hot for boots, but he did so in a way filled with jest; just as those who came into the pottery studio trusted Benito to instruct them on his perfected craft, Benito trusted Summer with everything style and fashion related. "I'll absolutely go thrifting with you, yeah," Benito nodded enthusiastically; he was often down for just about anything, but this activity was of genuine interest to him. "I could never keep you from your greatest pleasure, after all."

Trish lets out a breath of a laugh when she sees the animated display. 'Yeah, here's as good as any,' she says and then follows suit, brushing away the dusty layer of sand. 'You know my favourite thing when I was a kid - big hack by the way - is using one of those wall sand castle mould bucket things. I'd build them around the hole that I'd dug over and over till it looked like a wall and it would kind of guard it. And it made the holes look deeper. Adds maybe an inch of height. Looks so cool though.' She's suddenly reminded of the lack of tools bar hands. 'Or we could add a moat?'

"We could just create the castles ourselves?" Benito suggested, more than confident in his skills. It was his profession and favourite hobby, after all, to create with his hands; sure, sand was a lot different to clay in a lot of ways, but in other ways, the two could be moulded quite similarly. "It won't be as perfect as using the buckets, but I love the idea of it also adding some perceived height to it. And who doesn't love something homemade?" He laughed as he asked. "I think we should just start with the hole, though," he suggested.

Casey found Benny’s idea to be extremely endearing. He couldn’t picture that giving him anything other than vertigo but the thought wasn’t entirely a bad one. Sometimes just sitting around and thinking about his book got the juices flowing even if he wasn’t typing anything up just yet. It wasn’t the smartest way to work but he’d be lying if he hadn’t written entire stories in his head without materializing any of it.

“What do you play on?” Casey asked realizing he didn’t actually know what kind of gamer Benny was outside of his love for Fortnite that could be found all over his TikTok. Casey had always been and probably would always be a PC gamer even though he did buy a Switch a couple of years ago that he picks up when he wants to play something while laying down.

Casey smiled at the question about D&D. It was one of his favorite subjects and that was a mainstay in any campaign. “Yeah, a tavern or an inn or really any sort of communal dwelling you can think of,” he confirmed. “How else are you supposed to learn the lay of the land if you don’t interact with the locals? Besides you gotta have breaks for snacks and drinks.” Both in game and with the players. He loved any opportunity to get a little meta with the role playing.

"I just play on my Switch," Benito told him. "There's this whole stigma against Switch players on Fortnite but honestly it's just so much easier." Benito had always been the type of person who was constantly on the go; even though it required a stable internet connection and at least half an hour to dedicate to a round, Benito found himself able to play his favourite game a lot more on the portable device compared to if he only played on a PC.

"That's really cool," Benito had heard a lot of a little bit about the table top roleplaying game, and it had always caught his interest. He was a whimsical person, and he loved the idea of roleplaying such fantastical encounters and characters, but finding a place of his own in such a game had never happened. Despite initially thinking about how fun it could be to take part in the game, his thoughts naturally morphed into those relevant to his profession and favourite art form.

"It'd be really cool to do a series of D&D inspired pieces, especially because it seems like so many people who run games make a lot of their own things for it, so I think they'd appreciate it," Benito could have easily been wrong, but all of his exposure to D&D - such as the exposure he got through Casey - had a lot of artistic flare to it. "I wouldn't know where to start, though."

Tricia lets out a bewildered breath of a laugh. Yes, there could've been a better choice of words a few times there from Benito, but then what else would have made her day just like that? 'Come on then Mr Big Hole,' she laughs and throws him back jazz hands of her own paired with a shimmy of her shoulders. Enthusiasm, meet Enthusiasm. 'Let's do this thing!'

'Wait,' she says, and starts placing her belongings in the middle of her blanket, taking herself off it, and wrapping the hole thing up in the pink fabric. 'I don't want to accidentally bury my stuff. I feel like I'm going to get very into this project so I need this outta the way pronto.'

Benito sighed as Tricia addressed him, though the sigh came through lips parted and stretched into a wide and amused smile; he could certainly find humour in it, even if it wasn’t the most desirable name to be called. To be met with such enthusiasm almost immediately distracted him from the earlier fumbling of his words, and now all that swam through Benito’s mind were thoughts of eagerness about their spontaneous activity.

“Oh that’s smart,” Benito praised; he hadn’t personally brought more than the house key that hung on a silver chain around his neck, so he wasn’t in need of protecting his own belongings, but he could definitely see their digging landing Tricia’s things many feet under the sand if they weren’t carefully placed aside. “Are we thinking this patch of sand to start on?” He questioned, sitting on his knees and enthusiastically beginning to brush away loose sand in order to start with a flat - but not condensed - spot on the beach.

Lincoln gave a little nod when the other addressed him, before Katrina thought to introduce herself as well. "I'm Kat, and thank you so much for helping." A genuine smile crossing her features, before nodding. "Oh yeah, she won't have gone far without you." Kat agreed, nodding at Lincoln, that his mother would surely be looking for him too. "I don't know if there's 'security' on the strip." She'd never really thought about it before, wondering if his mother had tried to find a PA system or something to make an announcement, or if she'd try to retrace her steps. "Hey um--- maybe you could hoist Lincoln up on your shoulders, so he can look too?" Maybe that would make him more comfortable than being surrounded by a stampede of legs. "Just an idea." She added quickly, indicating that he certainly didn't have to do that. Katrina understood that not everyone would be comfortable having a kid on their shoulders, or were even physically capable of doing so. @benitocresta

“I’m Benito, though my friends call me Benny,” the way in which he introduced himself was mostly catered to the child, but the introduction was of course for the pair. “You’re very welcome, of course,” he shook his head at Kat’s words of thanks, because it was a no brainer for Benito to stop and help. Even if he had an insanely busy schedule for the day, it was more than likely that Benito would push it all back in order to assist. “Ooh, that’s a good thought,” Benito wasn’t sure on the status of security either, though he tried to use his height advantage on the woman to look through more of the crowd to see if he could find anyone. “That’s an even better thought,” he nodded in agreement to putting Lincoln up on his shoulders. “Hey bud, d’you wanna go up on my shoulders? You’ll be super tall, so I bet you could see the whole town from up there - including your Ma.”

There’s just something about the beach. Isn’t that what they say? It should be weird, returning to a great expanse of nothing but sand and sand and sand and water and water and water over and over and over, but just somehow isn’t. Tricia kicks the sand she had buried her feet under when she spots someone coming. She looks up from her comfortable spot, perfectly built (see: blanket, phone, headphones, book, green grapes) apart from a pair of sunglasses. She always seems to forget those. Her hand acts as a shield as she looks at them. ‘Hey,’ she says, ‘I’m tinkering with the idea of digging a big hole. It’s just the lack of tools. Of, uh, reason… that seems to be stopping me.’

"You had me at 'big hole'," Benito told her before promptly wrinkling his nose at himself; his words hadn't sounded quite right, but he intended on simply moving past them if she let him. "I think being at the beach is reason enough to dig a big hole, that's like, in the top five on the list of best beach activities," he decided. "As for tools, well," he did a quick scan of their surroundings, and when he couldn't find anything that would aid their mission, he gave her his best jazz hands. "I'm lucky enough to have two tools right here," again, his nose wrinkled as he felt as though he definitely could have chosen better words to say. "I meant, we can just dig it by hand? It might be harder work, but I think it'd be more rewarding that way."

03: Do you regret anything?

Benito is a very keep moving forward kind of person; he doesn’t like to dwell on the past, particularly not on the moments that weren’t so great. He believes that the only place to live is in the present, and that greatly stops him from registering moments as regret. Of course, he’s not immune to the feeling of regret, and it certainly makes itself known in the times that he lives through some of the moments that aren’t so great, but nothing in particular comes to mind when thinking of potential regrets, and that’s intentional.

talk about one person your muse loves.

Benito absolutely loves his mother; despite being a very social person who admittedly doesn’t spend a lot of time with his family - particularly not after moving out of his parents houses and into his own place - Benito considers himself to be family oriented. He keeps his mother in particular updated on everything that goes on in his life, and he can’t imagine ever going a day without at least exchanging a couple of texts with her. While they express their love mostly from afar - or more correctly from a couple of towns over - Benito’s mother is always one of the first to comment on any of his TikToks or Instagram posts, and she’s the first person to receive his creations straight from the kiln.

“Yeah, it’s up there somewhere,” Casey agreed. It was just finding the words to the story up in his head that he was struggling most with. Everything he’d been writing lately just wasn’t saying what he wanted it to and he found himself editing his drafts more and more instead of pushing through any certain angle. He felt like Sisyphus condemned to write the same chapter over and over again until the end of time.

“Yeah, I’ve heard great things. I’m just not much of a third-person shooter fan,” he explained. He wasn’t much of a shooter fan in general. He’d much rather be casting spells or swinging swords if he was going to be engaging in some sort of combat. The only time he’d gotten into a game like that had been when he was playing Overwatch and that’s just because Casey would always give a Blizzard game a chance. “You’re more than welcome to talk about it all you want. I like hearing about video games just in general,” he promised with a smile.

Hearing that Benny was interested in painting the little tavern pieces excited Casey more than he wanted to admit just because he was far more excited to paint a little monster over a chair and was glad they weren’t going to fight over it. Of course Casey gave Benny first pick because he was his guest but he was happy he picked right. “Yeah, have at ‘em. I was iffy about picking up a set but my parties always end up spending so much time in the taverns it felt like they were needed at this point,” he explained as he grabbed for the pieces of the set and placed them in front of Benny. Not that Casey had any active campaigns going right now. He’d ran a couple of one shots here and there at the game store but he hadn’t found a new group to DM for since moving to town.

"Have you tried laying on your bed - or the couch - with your head hanging off upside down? Maybe all of the words will fall out if you do that," he suggested jokingly, knowing that there wasn't really anything that he could do to help his friend with the issue, but not wanting to dismiss the issue as if it wasn't important. Despite not being a writer, Benny was a content creator and a fellow artist, so putting ideas from inside of his head into something actualised was a concept and process he was familiar with. 

"That's totally fair, man," Benito said, not that Casey needed his permission to not be a Fortnite player. "I'm not always into them, but there's just something about Fortnite," he shrugged. Benny's attention span was far from the greatest, so he struggled a lot with games that had a continuous story that was followed; he had tried and failed to play Baldur's Gate recently, for example, and had quickly gone back to his quick rounds of Fortnite. "Thanks." He could oftentimes be a little too much for people, particularly with the way he could fill any silence with speech, and so he really appreciated Casey explicitly telling him that he was welcome to speak about his favourite video game. 

While Casey thought that Benito should have first pick in what he was painting, Benito thought of it as the opposite; they were Casey's pieces, things that Casey would go on to use and have himself, so Benito thought that Casey should naturally have first pick. Somehow, he had chosen right for the two of them, and while he didn't know the extent of how pleased his friend was with the fact, Benito was excited to get into it. "Isn't that a whole D&D thing? Like, that they're always in some sort of tavern?" He asked with a laugh.

When Summer comes back into the room and sees Benito showing the chat two pairs of shoes, neither of which are boots, she playfully clucks her tongue. "Hmmmm," she hums, reaching for the heels. The chat is going insane telling him they're a terrible choice, making her laugh. "I can see where you were going with this," she tells him, "and I so love that you were drawn to these, they're probably my favorite pair of kitten heels, but not with this outfit, unfortunately. These could be something." She takes the sneakers now, setting the heels aside and tilting her head in thought. "Maybe with some knee high socks. I would've gone for boots, but what's new. When are we gonna dress you up, by the way? Oh my god, we should go thrifting for you!"

Between Summer's reaction and the chat's comments, Benito figured pretty quickly that he hadn't made the right choice for the outfit; he thought he was doing a smart thing, by picking out not one but two options, but alas, neither had been what his friend had pictured for the outfit. "I don't know how you walk in them, but they're nice!" His tone was almost defensive, as if he still believed that the choice he had made was better than Summer - and the audience - thought so. "Boots? Isn't it too hot for boots? I didn't think they'd be a smart option, I was thinking about your health rather than only your style," he teased. Benito truly did think that it might have been a little too hot to wear boots, but it certainly was a stretch to say that he had truly not chosen them for the sake of Summer's health. "We should totally go thrifting for me," he agreed easily, never one to turn down an adventure or activity with a friend. "Clearly I have no style and need the help, so," he laughed.

“Cool, I’ll order one in a bit,” Casey promised as he finally was able to have a seat on his couch and stop fiddling with his supplies. “Well, it’s got to come soon, it’s starting to become a time crunch,” Casey confessed. He was supposed to have something to reach publishers for a 2025 release and that was looking incredibly daunting. They were already half way through the year and he was about a quarter of the way through his first draft. “It’s a cool design. Fortnite’s got a lot of cool looking items,” he said. He understood why so many of them got turned into toys and collectibles. “That’s good to hear. I’m glad you came over. I’m up to date on all my YouTube subscriptions so I have nothing to watch while painting these today,” he explained. Conversation would be a nice replacement. “You can kinda go as crazy as you want,” Casey explained. “I’ve got some tavern pieces if you just wanna zone out and paint brown or a couple of random 3D printed miniature sets off Etsy I haven’t opened up yet,” he explained his options to him.

"No rush," Benito shook his head with a friendly smile. It was true that Benito was almost always hungry, or at least able to eat, but he really wasn't in any hurry to gorge himself on some pizza immediately. "It'll come to you, I'm sure," he encouraged his friend. There wasn't anything substantial that properly backed up this claim, nothing other than blind faith in his friend that he was so fond of, but Benito had always been the type of person to hype his friends up regardless of what the facts were. The last thing that anybody needed was another negative voice in their ear telling them that they couldn't do exactly as they dreamt; too many people provided that voice for themselves, Benito understood.

"Fortnite in general is super cool; I know a lot of people are quick to hate it or consider it to be a really childish game, but I think it's dope. The games last the perfect amount of time, and with the seasons and chapters bringing changes it keeps things fresh and gives us new things before we can get bored. I actually could go on for ages about everything I love about it but I won't do that for you," he laughed.

"Well I'm more than happy to provide you with some entertainment," Benito offered cheerfully; being an artist himself, he absolutely understood that some days the perfect background noise was something on TV, while other days he much more craved some assistance and company. "Oh man, I've gotten really good at painting wood texture," he told Casey excitedly. "I could totally do wonders for your tavern stuff."

Daniel's eyes focused in on the instructors hands because he felt the more he studied the hand motions that he would be able to replicate it with his own piece. It was all handwork, right? It was like playing the guitar or piano or that's what he thought it would be like. It wasn't working out so far, but he wasn't going to give up. Yet.

"You know, whisper of a touch could be a good lyric." He said as he focused back onto his own piece.

He cupped his hands around the clay he had, "So it's all about building pressure slowly?" He asked as pressed the pedal to start. He was grateful this was a class, but he didn't want to hog his time either from others.

“Do you write songs?” Benito asked with genuine interest and a smile. It was oftentimes hard for him to keep track of the lives, hobbies, and careers of those who he knew; Benito certainly knew a lot of different people there in Aurora Bay - not to mention outside of it - so he felt like he was always asking questions such as the one he had asked Daniel. "Feel free to use 'em as lyrics if you'd like," he offered with another chuckle, eyes temporarily darting down as he checked on the work he was slowly doing. "Just give me a shoutout in the credits or something," he teased.

"Yeah, you can definitely get used to it enough to go a bit faster with enough practice, but it's a pretty delicate medium, so I'm always telling people to not be afraid of going slow and steady," Benito was more than happy to give Daniel as much focus and time as he wanted, particularly as the others in the room could hear his advice too, and could potentially benefit if they were silently struggling themselves. He of course kept an eye out for those who looked to be in trouble, but until that came up or another spoke out, Benito was content with giving Daniel some tips and tricks. "Please," he encouraged, always more than happy to see the same faces attending his classes. "You can get a lot out of just one session, but honestly, it's a skill that you pretty much never stop getting better at the more you do it, so you can always learn more things."
