Progress: The Legend of the Fire Torch

Please look after the fire while i am gone....

I first started with the background, putting in the sky, then the pole wall then the hut. There after the inside of the hut. 

Then I place the originals and started illustrating. 

I moved onto the pot on 

Put on some flames.

Last week I worked on the National Water Campaign Poster. Namibia is facing a water crisis, although the dams have water. It will not be enough to survive the coming draught; which is about 7 years.

Although, World Wetlands day has passed on the 2nd February 2017, and World Water Day is celebrated on the 22nd of March 2017, we will commemorate both of these days on the 23 March 2017. The whole nation is invited to joins us at the Zoo Park  Amphitheatre, at 10 am.

With that said, here is my progress:

I placed the original:

Then from my custom made stock library I took Tshaanika 

I illustrated him to fit the background image. A real time saver!

I added the left foot.

Finally complete the foot.

Now it was time to add the title and the theme.

I placed the theme. 

It kept changing. 

The Clients requested that the poster was too green and it gave the wrong impression. So I had to make the ground stonish.

Happy new year! Hope you are enjoying it as I am. Since, last month I have been busy reviving Omazimo, after I finally hand in work for the first semester. 

I began with the colour swatch, making shades of blue. 

I then place the original drawing 

Then I started to illustrate 

I usually import from my own stock library. Having a stock library helps you illustrate faster especially if you use the same elements occasionally. I believe each freelancer should one. It really speeds up your design and illustration process. Thereafter I move on to making the chest beads. 

I then move on to the teta, illustrating  it in the Omazimo teta style, which I design in 2009.

I do not normally follow through the steps, in other words finishing only one part and moving on to the others. I tend to do what seems creative to me at the time. So, I moved onto the title of the book. 

After the title, I started with the guy. 

I then, did the background. Jumping from task to task motivates you as you see the illustration come to live. 

I then made the lightened their faces as they are looking at a burning branch enhance the fire torch.

Research - Day 2

Research – Day 2

The funds were finally paid in on the 9th. However, I had already many projects in the pipeline. Yet, I did manage to buy coffee to make some coffee paintings. I have always enjoyed doing coffee paintings, ever since they introduced to us in the first year.

Anna Poole: The few last pages

Yesterday, I continued with Anna Poole. And now I am only left with three pages. I even managed to complete the front covers. I created this magnificent pattern which was made up of one of Anna’s favourite things - banana muffins. I maintained the  colour swatch of pinks and purples, since those are Anna’s favourite colours.

This week I am working on Anna Poole which is about a fairy named Lottie who got lost and now needs Anna’s help to get to a fashion show in Paris. 

I am a little behind schedule, but I am sure I will have it in before the deadline.

Hi I am Bennardo Santos, a Namibian Illustrator and the managing director of PriDegree Design Studio.  Bennardo Santos Designs is the illustration division or what I call the Illustration Kingdom. On this blog I will be posting my design process as I illustrate for children’s story books. At the moment I am working with Brown Cow Books - which creates customized children’s story books.
