Unpopular(?) opinion, but I’m not really interested in learning what exactly led to Vander’s violent betrayal of Silco, and I think it’s totally possible to have a good flashback-heavy Vander/Warwick storyline in s2 without ripping that particular wound wide open for the audience to dissect. Not only would a concrete explanation lead to exhausting discourse over who was “right” and probably retroactively undermine the emotional impact of Silco’s story, but also, like … I think the most generous assumption to make rn is that the writers just never intended to expand on this beat, because otherwise it’d be really concerning that a story editor’s explanation of the timeline totally contradicts what we see on the screen. Even if said explanation was just some long-retracted story idea seeping into an impromptu AMA, I don’t like the idea of having to entertain Word of God like this until the “true” canon is revealed. We saw glimpses of a conflict that clearly took place long before the bridge incident and were given the space and respect, by canon, to fill in the blanks ourselves — that’s all we really need to understand the tragedy.

That’s not to say that Arcane should never fill in the blanks when the current product is perfectly functional as-is — for example, I really hope we get a glimpse of Kino Medarda and at least learn why he “crossed the wrong man,” even if it’s not necessary information to understand the Medardas and Noxian politics going forward — but I think some of Arcane’s best writing lives in those blank spaces. It’s part of why the timeskip works so well, how just a few short scenes get us up to speed on the radically changed world and character dynamics. Sometimes too much context is just a burden, or at least superfluous, and distracts from emotional and thematic points.
