One day in Wu Shi Academy, Johnny and Kenshi wake up in each others body. How or why they switched bodies is mystery to them, but it's Liu Kang's doing to get them to work together by putting them literally in each other's shoes.
The first thing Johnny notices in Kenshi's body is a dull pain in his knee. Kenshi once got it injured in Yakuza, and it stuck with him since then.
JC: why the fuck does you left knee hurt so much?
KT: it's gonna rain.
JC: Now, why the fuck is your knee telling the weather??
On the other hand, Johnny's body periodically gets back pain. Kenshi must complain and let Johnny know that the spinning kicks he does is gonna fuck up his spinal disks in the future.
Johnny forces Kenshi to do skincare routines to his face.
And Kenshi forces Johnny to wear long sleeves.
Johnny makes a personal mission to smile as much as possible with Kenshi's face. Like all teeth out smiles. Raiden and Kung Lao got jumpscared when they first saw it.
Kenshi sticking to Johnny to make sure the actor wouldn't do anything sketchy to his body
The first time Johnny is going to the toilet in Kenshi's body: "My god! I guessed you would be big, but daammn, you packing, bro!"
Johnny totally shaves Kenshi's face because he doesn't like the scratchy feeling while Kenshi is just fuming.
Johnny takes silly selfies with Kenshi's face too. These all gonna be blackmailing materials in the future.
KT: I'm gonna kill you
JC, : Oh, Mr.Takahashi please don't. You would be murdering your own body then you would be stuck in mine. What a nightmare it would be
Kenshi speaking japanese with Johnny's voice. It is not clear who likes it more: Johnny, Kenshi or Tomas (oh Tomas is nagging Kenshi to do kenjutsu with Johnny's body bc he thinks Johnny looks so cool!!)
Johnny annoys the fuck out of Bi-han enough for him resort to getting physical but Bi-han gets momentarily confused who to punch. Because he wants to punch Johnny's nose, but punching Kenshi's body doesn't give him satisfaction, so he just punches both Kenshi and Johnny, making Johnny feel the pain as well as leaving some damage to his body.
Because of all the shits Johnny is pulling with Kenshi's body, Kenshi threatens to post ugly pics of Johnny on internet.
KT: Unlike you, i don't have fanbase to worry about.
JC: What do you mean?
KT: I'm sure the internet would love some ugly pictures of the famous actor Johnny Cage. Low angle shot of your double chin or a closeup of your nose hair, you choose.
JC: wait wait wait waitā
KT: It can be both.
JC: WAIT
Johnny's body is fast, nible, and flexible as rubber band, but it is so uncoordinated for kenjutsu while Johnny keeps forgetting that Kenshi's body isn't as flexible as him.
Kenshi is heavier and stronger than Johnny so when Johnny went to do a chest bump with Kung Lao as they usually do, Kung Lao got tossed to the other room like a comet. Since then the shaolins started to steer clear out of Johnny's way.
Kenshi is kinda not well with hand to hand combat. He usually brutes force things, but since he's in Johnny's body, he no longer can do that. So Johnny totals him in sparrings. And somehow Kenshi thinks it's not such a bad idea, its kinda a turn-on.

Kung Lao fell to the ground, blood spurting from his mouth as clutched his chest. Shang Tsung smirked and retracted the blades from Kung Laoās chest and disappeared in a whirlwind of white as Kung Lao failed to get back to his feet. Behind him he could hear Raiden screaming his name out. The hat wielder struggled to keep his eyes open as he felt Raiden cradle him close. Through the blur, he could see tears falling from Raidenās eyes as the champion pushed on Kung Laoās chest frantically. Kung Lao brought his hand up to cradle Raidenās and stared into those beautiful brown eyes.
āKung Lao, stay awake! Liu Kang is coming with medical help, please!ā Raiden said frantically, but Kung Lao could barely hear him, the world sounding a million miles under water. Instead, the hat wielder just reached his hand up to tuck a piece of loose hair behind Raidenās ear. Raiden just choked on a sob, his hand coming up to cup Kung Laoās cheek. Why were Raidenās hands so bloody? Was he injured?
āAre you hurt? You should go get patched up.ā His words were starting to slur as his consciousness started slipping from the waking world. Raiden said something in reply, but Kung Lao just heard some sort of mumble. The hat wielder stared up at Raiden as the world started to turn black in the edges of his vision. Even crying, Raiden still looked so beautiful, like an angel come from heaven. What had Kung Lao ever done to deserve someone like him?
āI love you, Raiden. I love you so much.ā It was barely a mumble, so quiet that Kung Lao wasnāt even sure he had said it until the Earthrealm champion brought Kung Lao up to kiss him desperately, not caring that he could taste blood. Kung Lao closed his eyes and smiled as the last vestiges of his consciousness slipped from the world.
Fuck, everything hurt. Kung Laoās head pounded, his heartbeat pounding in his ears, his body felt exhausted, as if he had run a marathon just a second before, and he could barely breathe. Something was in his mouth, and Kung Lao tried to lift his arm up to remove it. But, he couldnāt move. He felt so heavy, even his eyelids. He let out a groan as a shooting pain went through his chest.
Something clutched onto his hand, something warm and calloused that he had felt explore his body countless times. Raiden. Kung Lao clutched onto the hand, not daring to let go of it as sleep overtook his mind once again.
The next time woke up, Kung Lao peeled his eyelids open, the world blurry and bright as he tried to blink his vision back into focus. He looked to his right to find Raiden sitting right next to him, gripping onto his hand so tight like Kung Lao might slip away at any moment. The hat wielder looked around a bit more, and was he in a hospital? He tried to sit up, but the blooming pain in his chest forced him to stay still and remain in his position. But it seemed that Raiden heard Kung Laoās pained grunt, and his eyes opened.
Even with dark circles underneath his red and puffy eyes, messed-up hair, and dirty clothes, Raiden still looked gorgeous, like he came straight from a painting. The Earthrealm champion started tearing up at the sight of Kung Laoās open eyes, and Kung Lao squeezed his partnerās hand, trying to comfort the other. There was still something in his mouth forcing him to breathe, but something told Kung Lao that he wouldnāt have enough energy in his body to try and breathe by himself anyway.
Raiden spent the next few minutes sobbing and placing kisses on the back of Kung Laoās hand, but he calmed down after a bit, shaky breaths and ugly sniffles.
āYou idiot. You shouldnāt have jumped in front of me.ā Raiden mumbled. Kung Lao wanted to retort, but with the tube in his mouth, he couldnāt say anything and could only listen to Raiden.
āThat was reckless. Stupid. Donāt you know how distraught we all were. We all thought you had died. Liu Kang disappeared when he delivered you to the hospital, looking terrified. Kenshi and Johnny havenāt been the same. Kung Jin can barely sleep knowing youāre in the hospital. Andā¦and I thought I lost you. Donāt ever do that again.ā Raiden started crying again, and Kung Lao stayed looking at Raiden. He did not regret his decision to sacrifice his life. He would never let Shang Tsung hurt Raiden.
āAnd, and, how could you tell me you loved me when I didnāt have the chance! You-I-I love you so much, Kung Lao. It wouldāve destroyed me if you died before I got to tell you.ā
Despite the pain and his body screaming, Kung Lao sat up in his head and brought Raiden close, resting their foreheads together and trying to say that he loved Raiden so much. He would love Raiden until the end of time. He would protect Raiden with his body, heart, and soul. He would give his whole life to Raiden if it meant Raiden got to live.
Raiden just lifted his hand to rest on the back of Kung Laoās neck, and they stayed like that for a few minutes. And as Raiden whispered āI love youā over and over again, Kung Lao closed his eyes and fell asleep knowing that he was loved.
Canāt remember what was the premise for this and Iām too lazy to make a decent comic out of it, so just have this poorly digitalized railao doodle I found in my sketchbook, yāall can add any context you want~
I posted some Kung Lao and mk1 Kung Jin headcanons earlier, so now I think Iāll drop railao thoughts too. Nothing too crazy - I prefer to read/hear about otherās hc more than to think about them myself afgHjHh
- Raiden fell first, but Kung Lao fell harder.
- Lao did confess first tho. After the mk1 events and some chill time together they both realized that they can't stand being separated and stressed about the otherās safety.
- They used to have these red-string ālucky braceletsā when they were kids but stopped wearing them in middle school (prob lost them or because it wasnāt ācoolā anymore hah). Later, after mk1 when they officially started dating, they got a pair of matching ones, as a substitute for the wedding rings. š (now go find all of them on my railao art š)
- Right now (mk1 and right after) Raidenās hair is longer than Laoās, but Lao is growing his hair out so in the future heāll be rocking that one long-ass braid we all love. š„° Also he has no idea how to style hair besides the ponytail and a simple braid, so sometimes Raiden will do his hair for him as soon as it grows long enough.
- Since childhood Raiden collects cool rocks he found around the village and sometimes he gives them to Lao. I suspect that Raiden is a penguin.
- When Lao noticed that the flower petals have a strange tendency to follow him everywhere, he began collecting them and leaving in various places, including Raidenās home and school desk. After they got together, the petals would follow Raiden on their own volition every time the two are separated. šø
- Lao began to pierce his ears right after the school graduation and Raiden thinks he looks cool, but he did only one piercing per ear for himself much later. Although I'm starting to dig Noviceās idea that he canāt wear them because of his lightning powers. š¤
- Raiden calls Kung Lao just āLaoā or āmy Laoā (but not in a āprofessional settingā, like on missions or in front of people who are not considered their friends). Kung Lao loves giving Raiden cheesy nicknames.
- Lao is so passionate in his affection, heās borderline aggressive, he kisses and hugs like itās their last time. Raiden is more sensual and a fan of prolonged physical touch, like holding hands for the whole day.
- Kung Lao is a professional shit talker and yapper, Raiden just nods and listens. He remembers everything tho, even if itās something ridiculous that Lao himself will forget after five minutes.
- Lao actually can cook at a reasonable level. I also think heās very creative and resourceful and can make a decent meal from a limited number of ingredients.
- A relatively new follow-up hc inspired by this tt and personal experience discussion with D3rpy: Kung Lao eats like a vacuum cleaner and canāt stand people wasting food because when he was a kid his family had a rough few years where they could barely afford enough food. And although things have changed for the better, itās a habit now, heās like a stray animal - you canāt waste food when you donāt know when youāll eat next. Also this is when he got closer to Raidenās family, hanging out in his house more often.
