Hey family, I thought you’d appriciate an update from Portland Prindles! The last month has been full of breathing, ice baths, and handstands. Our new roommates (wife and husband) are instructors of the Wim Hof Method—a westernized breathing practice adopted from Tummo meditation, developed by Wim Hof, a record holder of the longest ice bath (1hr 52min). We breath every morning, typically 3 sets of 2 minutes of deep—sometimes vigorous—breathing. The idea is to saturate the blood with as much oxygen as possible, making the blood more alkaline; and further, practice for deep controlled breathing—which grants control over the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, which in turn can keep the body and brain from panicking when exposed to a shocking situation. These breathing exercises have been a door to better understanding human biology, and harnessing power over unconscious systems through conscious action (breathing). MUCH to learn.
