  Currently based in San Francisco, Boston, and Chicago, New Sector Alliance provides intensive fellowships for emerging talent across the nation, preparing early-career professionals for high-impact careers in the social sector. Sound good? Then this will be even better: New Sector Alliance is expanding to the Twin Cities!

  New Sector's Residency in Social Enterprise (RISE) fellows serve full-time with a nonprofit organization in the Twin Cities, and complete projects designed to enhance organizational missions. In addition being matched with a local organization, fellows participate in the Social Impact Leadership Curriculum, a group-based learning model New Sector has honed and used to train 500+ fellows across the country the skills and tools for effective social sector leadership. Plus, fellows are matched with a professional mentor who will provide specifically tailored support for individual projects, professional development, and career planning.

  All college graduates interested in social sector work with less than 5 years of professional experience are eligible to apply. Fellows are paid an 11-month stipend of $19,000, receive health insurance, and are awarded a $5,550 education award (pending Americorps approval) upon completion of the fellowship. And the best part? The chance to work at some of the most exciting nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities...including Pollen!

Careercatures are coming to town!

Careercatures are visualizations of someone's professional and personal story. Pollen is about to ship some careercatures to the good folks who attended OTA14: Sioux Falls.

Highlighting other women’s power in work/meeting situations.

By encouraging women to support each other through mentoring.

Create a forum for men and women to have this conversation together!

The State of the Bees

Last night, our Pollen fellow, Taylor, attended the State of the Bees talk at the Walker Art Center. The talk was led by honey bee expert and U of M professor, Dr. Marla Spivak. Spivak also runs the U of M Bee Squad with a team of graduate students. She gave a brilliant talk about the role of bees in agriculture, the threats they are facing, and what we can do to help them. The event was organized by Nina Hale Inc. and Pollen was a promotional sponsor.

Dr. Spivak knows a thing or two about bees. She and her team are one the reasons why Minnesota is at the forefront of bee research, pesticide regulation, and the growth of diverse bee populations. 

Look at all of those different types of nectars! Bees need flower diversity to make a healthy hive.

The Bee Lab is like the Justice League but for bees. They are doing incredible research and also partnering with local organizations and institutions to install hives. Fun fact: bee drones are all female. 

Look at all of the wonderful bee nerds. Overheard in the crowd: bee keepers wear white because bees associate dark objects with attacking bears. How about that?

A Visual Recap of OTA14: Sioux Falls

Pollen brought Andy Sturdevant and three roving illustrators to document the the Sioux Falls event. The three illustrators captured the event’s feel through a live summary of the day’s activities. They sketched throughout the day to create final, fully formed illustrations. See Andres Guzman’s final illustration below.
