My favorite band, Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s, recently asked their fans to send them a list of their Margot collections for a giveaway. I read their post too late to win anything, however, I still thought it was a fun idea and it got my gears turning. Please don’t ask me to send you any…
no joey hamilton? I hate to say this and it may be responding to and against “margot fan elitism” in a “margot fan elitist” way but why would this post state: “Please don’t ask me to send you any songs or albums from this list because it won’t happen…I will not even respond.” when even you asked me for Margot tracks? So I don’t know I just think thats kind of a poor way to go about touting your favorite band. Should everyone buy Margot’s music ? Yeah. Does everyone have the means to do so all the time? No. I sure as hell don’t have $60 to spend on one single, like the Flexidisc. But I think good music should be shared at all times, unless the band states such or it is implicit otherwise. Just my two cents.
Hopefully we can do some trading.
Hello there! First off, my name is Brandi! Nice to meet you again :).
Secondly, nope...no Joey Hamilton (yet). I've been trying like hell forever though.
Thirdly, please don't worry yourself or wrap your brain too tightly around my lovely scholarly mess of a paragraph I wrote about "don't steal from Margot". It's merely a tumblr post, nothing I thought too hard about writing, and certainly nothing to be overly analyzed. *bites lip* The last thing I want to do is piss someone off on the interwebs and get into a tumblr battle. Ain't nobody got time for that. My whole point with the post is that I dig Margot. Period. I'll be the first to say many tracks in my library are from nice people who sent them to me after I inquired about them, tracks that were never offered by the band. I just wanted to make clear that I purchase everything that is purchasable (and more), and I definitely am not here to leak anything or steal anything, etc., nor do I encourage it. Even things that had originally been sent to me for free by other Margot fans, then later released by Margot, I have paid the band for and scrapped my free versions...despite their being identical. Do I wish everyone was like that? Totally. Do I understand everyone is not like that? Totally. Nor would I expect them to be. I'm just a nut with money to shed and I absolutely get that the entire world doesn't have the means to be a psychopath about purchasing things from a band. I really would be crazy if I expected everyone to pay sixty bucks for an mp3. Sincerely, I didn't mean for it to seem like I was sticking my nose up at ANYONE who loves this band. I'll tell you what...I have done/will still do unimaginable things in order to add un-buyable stuff to my collection, and I am certainly not above asking around, which you know and have witnessed firsthand. I'd agree that that's probably grounds to call me a hypocrite, if that's what you were getting at. But let me tell you a little something about girls. 1.) They're stupid. 2.) I'm no exception to rule #1. So seriously, don't read too much into my shit. It's not worth the brain cells :).
Lastly, I'd be more than happy to trade with you! I'm sure that's more than confusing. Like I said, if you have things not in my collection, I will do disgusting things to get them! And for some reason, "trading" seems different from "begging" in my mind. Don't ask why. Fuck. Nothing I ever say really makes any deep sense. The whole seed to my ill thoughts about people asking me for tracks is that I know there have been ideas tossed around for a "rarities" album, therefore I am skeptical about sending anything out for free since Margot will potentially make money from it. The reason for my discouraging it in my post was strictly that. I hope that makes sense. Again, please don't be offended by anything I've posted. I purely wrote it out of my love for their music and nothing more...no underlying wishes to anger the world. I'm no music God, nor do I have any power to thrust my musical rules onto every Margot fan. Especially when they obviously aren't the best way "to go about touting your favorite band". I respect your thoughts on my blurb. I'm hopeful that you now understand somewhat where I was coming from with it. (I'm one of those people who spew out my words willy-nilly on the internets with good intentions and little to no present thought about what I'm writing, and then slit my wrists when people criticize me for it. No no, that's a very graphic exaggeration. But, you know what I mean... *sigh* What I'm trying to say is that I'm not the universe's most intellectual person when it comes to posting online, so don't place importance upon it that it doesn't deserve.)
In conclusion (and to sum up all my pointless blabber), from one Margot fan elitist to another, let's trade stuff, comrade! I didn't get all that I have by sitting on my ass, posting on tumblr all day ;).
