I was gifted a rose, specifically the Barbra Streisand hybrid tea rose, for my birthday this year and I honestly did not expect I would get any blooms this year but it looks like there are two for (almost) certain and a possible third! Plus two other tiny ones that I’m not thinking about until they’re bigger.
I also did not expect to be this involved but here I am and I’m enjoying it! Am I an old person now?!?!?🤣🌹
I have been battling aphids and these little wormy looking critters that eat her leaves, but other than that I haven’t (yet) had to deal with any black spot or fungal issues … it’s been a fun adventure for me and I might add a second or third next year.🤔🌹🌹🌹
Bonus: me and Gozer in the side-back yard/fire pit area enjoying a quiet and explosion free afternoon coffee and bird watching.
🥰🤩
(I was a little worried about her after two days of 95+ weather, but I woke up this morning to this)
And the saga continues…
The fucking deer dared to get close to the house (she’s about 10ft or so away from our back door) and absolutely wrecked poor Barbra!😭
All three blooms plus most of her leaves and a lot of her stems were just destroyed. They (or it, not sure how many) pulled on her enough to pull her a bit out of the soil. Hopefully they didn’t damage her roots. Anyways … I was absolutely devastated yesterday morning when I woke up to see this.
Fortunately they left the two buds getting ready to bloom alone so hopefully they are okay. Time will tell.
I’ve moved her up on the deck and at night I pull her (her pot is on a cart) right up next to the house and surround her with the deck chairs. I ain’t fucking around.
Yay she bloomed again!
Hey, whoa a rose update way earlier than expected!!!
Anyways … we’ve been having a bit of cold weather (though I don’t think it’s gotten as cold as they initially said it would) and because Barbra is in a pot and I did not do anything to protect said pot from cold temperatures the best (and quickest) solution, according to the internet, was to just bring her inside close to the back door … well after three days this happened:
Yeah … she apparently woke up and decided to start growing again.🤣 There’s about six inches of new stem there and some new leaves too. I’m actually pretty surprised by this because there isn’t a lot of natural light in that spot this time of year, but I guess all she needed was a little warmth.
First bud of 2025!
Also … I’m fighting aphids hardcore right now! I’m trying not to use chemicals… but it’s not going easy.
Still battling aphids, had to deal with a fungus this spring, but we’ve got one bloom and 3-5 more buds in the process of opening!
Forgot to add these earlier! Anyways, this was Barbra’s’ June bloom! Right now she’s got SEVEN new buds getting ready to bloom again!
After a rough spring (massive fungal infection), a lot of unhealthy leaf and stem growth, and me not cutting her back in the fall like I was supposed to (Chairman got very sick during that time and a lot if things in my life went ignored) the first bloom of 2026 has opened up!
To be very honest I did not think she would bloom this year so I’m happy to report there are three (maybe five) buds and this is the first to open!
