And stay safe everyone!
I’m so tired of the “why do people hate aspecs, they aren’t doing anything?” argument. I know that it is an attempt to support us, but it fails so spectacularly to understand aromanticism, asexuality, and any other aspec identity that it’s actively frustrating.
We are doing something. We’re rejecting allonormative ideals and that’s a massive thing to do. We’re actively fighting not just to help other aspecs, but to help everyone, because amatonormativity (and allonormativity as a whole) hurt everyone. Single people who want to find a partner but can’t also deserve to be able to exist.
There are so many issues with the expectation of marriage, including:
A single income isn't enough to get by anymore
Having a spouse is almost necessary under the current medical system
Society shames and pressures people who are single to get into relationships constantly
Rejecting allonormativity means fighting against these things that hurt everyone.
So, no, aces and aros and other aspecs aren't "doing nothing." We're doing quite a lot.
People don’t talk about how sexual and romantic attraction don’t have to line up nearly enough (ex: homoromantic bisexual)
In fact, I can garuntee that the average person in the lgbtq+ community doesn’t even know that it’s a thing. The only reason I know about it is because I’m aroace and I read about it one on the asexual wiki half a decade age when I was still figuring myself out!
It’s one of those things I feel are more talked about in the aspec communities far more than the others, and even then the understanding is limited to “people can be aspec and also gay/straight/ect” so even most of us believe it’s only our community. We don’t know that people can be gay and bi, or pan and straight, or even gay and straight.
If anyone wants to look into it further just remember when looking things up the romantic term goes first, then the sexual one (ex: biro homo for biromantic homosexual) after all it’s aroace, not acearo. I also recommend taking a peak at the split attraction model on the lgbtqia wiki, just keep in mind that those are made for aspec people to help understand and explain their own orientation
Edit: forgot the term aspec existed for a minute there! Sorry, I don’t talk about the aspec community in depth very much so I tend to forget certain terms
Edited to add: Since a lot of people are reblogging this original post, I'm adding the updated version I did that incorporates the intersex circle...
I know intersex people are still getting excluded in a lot of LGBTQIA+ spaces (let alone wider society) and I think it's crucial to show this group is included in the statement that we all deserve equal rights.

Using the tagging system on Ao3 (which is a little finicky with this fandom so I’m certain many have been missed) I was able to check how many fics for each series there are. Rainbow Quest has 11, Twisted Rainbow has 14 and Steve Legends has 37 fanfics
I know SL is well-liked, but considering how long RQ went on you’d think it’d have a bit more than it does. Like- it has less than a third of what SL has!
I’ve seen so little fanart for TR since the series finished, so it having such a low ratio isn’t that shocking to me, but it’s still roughly 2 TR fics per 5.3 SL ones (I put the numbers into a ratio calculator if anyone wants to check that). You could literally double the RQ fics and add them to TR’s and SL would still have more than them!
TL:DR, Steve Legends dominates this fandom
Thing - Steampianist
wow would ya look at that. Echo actually finished the idea they had TWO YEARS AGO. in that time this has probably already been done, but we're a dieing breed so who knows.
this wasnt originally made for the word of the week, HOWEVER, the word is Identity and that was 100% the reason i actually finished this, SO! i'm counting it.
You’ve heard of the Roaring 20s........
now get ready for the Screaming 20s - coming to a decade near you in 2020
is it too early or can we start screaming now
in retrospect perhaps we should have started sooner
this post is the equivalent of a newspaper from the day of the outbreak being blown past by the wind after you wake up in a post apocalyptic world

Considering how Steves lose energy over time (eventually dying when they run out), do you think they’d view aging differently?
We view it linearly because we have an invisible clock that will only ever count down as we age, but Steves don’t work the same way.
They live in a world where death is determined by something that slips out naturally as they live and is spent in minuscule amounts when they use their powers — like a sand timer they jostle when they dip into their energy. If a someone is given energy from an object or another Steve it’d be like pouring extra sand into the top, bringing them be further away from death.
So, wouldn’t they determine age by how much energy they have? A Steve could be very young in years, but could have spend their energy really quickly and, therefore, be considered older than Steve that’s been around for decades.
(To that one person that’s watching the SCU for the first time, if you see this maybe don’t read the rest of this. It contains RQ spoilers)
The Red Steve’s culture around aging would probably shift to be more like ours over time. They probably already had language to describe age in numbers, so the terms young and old would either become obsolete or only be used on Steves who hadn’t already had all their energy replaced with redstone.
Also, none of the Steves — aside from the reds and any that have owned animals before — would have a way of gauging how old Sabre is. Unless he started aging like the Steves after the Demon Steves pulled him into the world completely, which there would be physiological ramifications for
