I'm going to go out on a limb here to tell a story. It makes me sound a little weird, but that's fine, its a good story nonetheless.
I hit upon some luck today. I was driving back from the auto parts store through the alley behind my house. There was a pile of boxes next to a trash can, and you know the unwritten rules of alley finds: if its in the alley, its free. So I was like, what the hell, I'll stop and look.
I found some nice things.
An older laptop, a Super Nintendo with a few games, a microsoft gps adapter for a laptop, tons and tons of cords and adapters, keyboards, and cd's. Well, the last thing I found was the most interesting: 5 cell phones.
Now like I've said before, I sell stuff online. Well, I planned on listing my treasure online for sale. So I go home and test everything. First the laptop, because it was the crown jewel, then the little things like keyboards and routers. Lastly I checked the cell phones.
These cell phones were from about 2003 to 2005. They were the first "generation" of cell phones to have cameras on them. They all still worked, and 2 of them still had all their previous owners information in them.
The first one was owned by an African American man. The second one, well, was owned by a teenage girl. Or was a teenage girl, she was 16 or 17 in about 2005.
I turned on her phone, not knowing it was hers. The background was a photo of herself, oddly enough. The photo was grainy and unclear but I could tell she was a pretty girl. I decided to see if there were any pictures left on the phone. Sure enough there were, all of her. She was a beautiful girl.
I don't know anything about her. There are some shards of conversation left in the phone, texts to an old boyfriend or something. No one had her name in any of the texts they sent. The last photo was dated 2005. It was of someone's grave.
This was almost 8 years ago now. She might be married. She might have a child. The boy she texted in her phone is almost certainly long gone, maybe even forgotten. This leaves me with 2 burning questions though: if I had been her age and knew her, would I have fallen in love with her?
And second, will my past loves be as long lost as an old cell phone in 8 years?
