Throughout the duration of the project I have extensively researched Fibromyalgia and have conducted a lot of primary research in the form of surveys, case studies, interviews and group responses. This has informed and motivated the whole of my project. As I am speaking on behalf of a condition I do not have, speaking to those that do has been a vital part of the project in order for the final piece to be reflective of the community and the condition itself.
I have also conducted a large amount of research into campaigns, design for good, and motion graphics. All of this research has inspired and motivated my project.
My project has undergone many changes and developments Through its duration. At the beginning of the project I initially was considering doing a charity rebrand, which then turned into a campaign, then an animation-led campaign, and finally an animation-led hashtag campaign. As well as this it was my initial intention to use interview audio for my video however due to the quality of audio, Covid limitations, and lack of structure, I decided that I would create a structured and well-thought-out script to narrate over using a borrowed mic from uni. Initially I wanted to use
the interview audio because I felt that I should not speak for people who have fibromyalgia as I do not have it however as my research grew I gained more confidence in my knowledge and felt comfortable and confident to speak on behalf of those with fibromyalgia.
I feel that I managed my time well throughout this project, although I do wish I had given myself a more time creating the animation as a 1:50 minute piece is a lot of work. However, I am extremely happy with my final outcome so don’t feel that the time constraint was restricting.
I think I responded to feedback well, I would often schedule tutorials with other members of the course and friends to get
their feedback, as well, as the people with Fibromyalgia that I was in contact with. By sharing my work and getting feedback from so many people I felt that I had a broad range of feedback. I posted my final outcome to Fibromyalgia Action UK charities Facebook support group and has a wonderful
response from a lot of people, and I even had a member of the charity give me some feedback too. I really appreciated this and found it extremely insightful.
I feel that I could have possibly done a bit more experimentation and maybe explored some campaign options before deciding upon doing an animation. I don’t think it would have changed my project much if I had done that however.
I have learnt a lot from this unit of study, I have greatly strengthened my After Effects abilities and learnt a great amount about Fibromyalgia as a condition and the people that have it. I have gained a lot of confidence within motion design and my ability to translate my research into visualised pieces.
I am exceptionally happy with my final outcome however if I were to make any improvements it would be to possibly add some background music to fill some of the silence. I did try and search for music however did not find anything suitable within the time constraints of the project. I would also change the arm, knee, and hand section of the animation to fit the rest of the animation better, while i think it works effectively it could possibly blend in better with the rest of my illustrations. I did experiment with filling those illustration but because it is a draw on animation that ruined the flow of the animation and did not work. If I were to improve the project i would likely spend some time exploring this.
