King knight! As cute as Queen knight is, she also felt like a genderbend to me- and it didnt match up to king knight very well in my eyes.l King knight has some femme aspects to his design, and so i wanted to add some masc aspects to Bswap king’s outfit. Along with a better chestplate, i also simplified the dress, and gave her back the signature cape we all know and love. Also, I still call her king knight- it just sounds a little more badass to me.
UPDATE: Made her dress a tiny bit fancier, looked a little too plain.
Not a bswap this time! As much as i love Mona’s design, it looked a lot like she was wearing latex, and i know from experience how uncomfortable and hard to breathe a corset is. Not only that, but it made little sense to me why Mona had such tight clothes when all the other alchemists had loose, comfy, breathable outfits on. Along with that, i added some pointed ears and fangs- just for fun. It feels a little more like a fantasy character than just a girl with green skin.
Not actually an edit, but rather, a key art i drew entirely from scratch! The enchanter felt a little too ganon for me- and i felt that he should be in japanese formal wear, like how the enchantress is in a very stylized Kimono. Because, let’s be honest: the samurai armour looks a bit too brawn for a cunning villain who uses his brain.

Tinker knight! As much as i love tinker knight, I was really upset with the Bswap we got- it felt a lot more like a genderbend. The orange hair bothered me the most, as it gave tinker- a very mature character- an incredibly bratty look, along with being really unnatural to look at. The edits made are that i put the mask scar back, make the hair black and go down the back like normal hair, and tried to make her a little more like a weightlifter in bodyshape- soft, pudgy core with muscular arms.
Spectre knight! Nothing big here, just flattened out the chest area. It made no sense for it to vacuum-seal around her bust when she has a normal suit of armour underneath.
Plague knight! Plague knight’s Bswap is absolutely adorable, and I love the androgynous approach to it, only the key art was really different from the sprite. the only edit here is i changed the weird hood into an actual hat, and moved the belt a tiny bit lower.
Another Bswap edit- Shield knight! This is an instance of an early concept looking better in my eyes than the final product. Shield knight has a very masculine outfit, and so it only felt right for Bswap shield to have a feminine one to counter that. Not only that, but he felt a little too bulky to me, so i slimmed him down a bit.
Another Bswap edit- Bard knight! There was no key art for this absolutely adorable concept that YCG had for her, so i went and edited Bard’s normal key art into the Bswap.
Mole knight’s Bswap irked me immediately upon seeing it. I didn’t know where to look- the iron tiddies? the uncomfortable-looking tasset skirt? So i went through and made some edits. It’s stated in the description she was base doff an opera singer’s outfit, which makes sense, only she isn’t an opera singer- she’s a knight, and needs some properly functioning armour. The edits i made were i switched out the Tasset skirt for a chain-mail skirt, and the chestplate is now more similar to shield knight’s chestplate.
Welcome to Betterswaps!
I’m a huge fan of Shovel knight, and an artist in my spare time. As much as i love Yacht club games, a few of their designs have a few flaws that irk me a little, so this is basically the blog i have for my key art edits.
