One thing I find really interesting is the fact that Erik communicated with Christine largely through a mirror, brings her through a mirror to his home, but in Leroux he has no mirrors in his home so as not to see his face, and some actors in the musical play him as being afraid to look at his own face in the mirror.

And that the torture chamber is made up entirely of mirrors. That has to mean something too, right?

I think repeating what phantomess said, the torture chamber was almost a hell of his own making. This reminds me of a fic I read a really long time ago that had some discussion of Erik’s time in Persia and something in that fic that really stood out to me was that when the Sultana asked him to make the torture chamber, she asked him to think of his worst nightmare and make that, and that’s how he came up with the torture chamber.
