agenttrevor:
“You know–” and Victor raises his gaze, now, to level the man with a look that’s more mild reproach than actual annoyance, “I really wasn’t planning on breaking everything then leaving you to pick up the pieces. Just so you’re aware.”
It’s nice to know that he’s at least a little bit appreciated. And he wasn’t entirely expecting some rash idiot, but they do exist and it’d be his luck to get one. “Thank you for the reassurance.” He smiles blandly, trying to smooth things. “I’ve always felt that international cooperation is more difficult than the lack of it.”
agenttrevor:
“And here I was, intending to just chuck it over the nearest hedge. Damn.”
“Ah yes, of course.” No wonder nothing’s getting done properly, if this is what he’s going to have to deal with. And they say the Americans are too much. “You still could, I’d just have to provide damage control.”

“I’d suggest being careful with that.”

mcstdangerous:
Usually she was pretty aware of her surroundings, aware if anyone was getting too close for comfort. But not this time, shown by her startling at the man’s well, introduction.
“ Eh… hello to you too, and you are? ”
“An interested party.” Keep her off balance. They’d needed something untraceable and this was apparently the best way to organize it. “I have two requests for you. At least one of them should be simple.”

“If you are under the assumption that I can save you from this, I cannot. What I can do is further you along in your mission.”
“That’s more than I’d have expected.” Instant suspicion. “What do you get out of helping me? What do you want?”

Perfect. He’s been following her movements for a few days now, getting a sense, doing his research. Now’s the time to actually make contact and see if his information is correct.
“If you’ll excuse me,” he steps up next to her, “I’ve got something that I need to talk to you about.”

He guesses well, locating a village that the Motherland had forgotten. Most before him have been left scrambling for a specific area, unversed in the minor villages of the area. She wonders if he is simply that good, or if his ear has a specific talent. Neither option speaks kindly of this man, no matter his origins. He will find no camaraderie with her on either count, no warmth leaking beneath the surface. She can play polite, however, and does, offering him a nervous smile, just the right kind of shame for the confession she is to make. “It is. Do you know the area, or am I that obvious?” What is he looking for in her? His history, if it i true, is just the kind of tragedy that surrounded their generation. Everyone has lost someone. It does not even bare comment. “A bit of both, actually. I’m a free woman, but I must admit this is my first time visiting the area.” What business is that of yours?
“I’ve never been there, no.” Not to her specific village. It’s not his usual hunting grounds, though he has gone behind the so-called Iron Curtain. People don’t run to tiny villages - and if they do, they’re very easy to find. Best to stay in large cities where police are more trained, but there are better resources and hiding places. “I studied the Slavic languages in school.” Though true, it’s a rather thin excuse, but he hopes he’s given her no reason to doubt him. She seemed perhaps a little defensive, something he could push on. “Well, that sounds very nice.” Time to press further. “Have you just started traveling? For a job, perhaps?” He’s on the attack now, trying to figure out what she’s doing here.

What’s up fraaaands.
Tomorrow, I’m going to California to visit some friends and go to Disneyland (!!). I probably won’t bring my computer so I won’t be able to do replies because we’re literally going to be in the park from 9 am to midnight so.
Consider this a hiatus notice from Dec 3rd to the 10th.
I’ll be avaliable via skype and IM but I’ll probably keep those to just when I have wifi at the hotel so I have enough battery in my phone. So expect communication rlly early PST to really late PST.
Feel free to send memes or whatever but they’ll be answered either sporadically or when I get back.

She cannot afford to shrug off such questions, not in this era. Her origins are a deep-seared brand on her reputation, both within the service and without. Twenty years loyal to the West means nothing to the average man. With no read on this one, she feels her footing shift on its metaphorical plane, ice cracking beneath her. She considers it just short of a miracle that she does not grip her bag tighter, go rigid under his gaze, no matter her training. “Usva,” Julia offers, as if unafraid of consequences. If he already has his mind set on ugliness, the least she can do is spite him. “And yourself?” At least if he is talking, she might be able to keep him on friendly terms.
“That’s Russian, isn’t it?” The pronunciation is, at the very least. It’s a language that he’s known for a very long time - he’s good at picking out the subtleties of Slavic languages. Hence his usefulness. She’s not hard like the Russians he’s hunted, played in the shadows with. Actually, that’s a simplification that does not give her enough benefit. She has not run, but she does not have what the Lubyanka puts into their agents. So who is she working for? “Connecticut. England originally. I lost my parents during the war.” The English and the Soviets may have fought on the same side, but Michael does not count them as equals. “Are you on a rare vacation or one of the lucky few to escape the wide net they cast?”
