Atlantic Bay Scallop (Argopecten irradians)
is a species of saltwater clam native to the East coast of North America. Yes those little blue dots are eyes, scallops actually have around 100 simple eyes around their mantle. Although it looks like the scallop has teeth they are simple filter feeders and don’t eat anything of substance these teeth are tentacles that simply help the animal move food into its mouth. All in all scallops are basically awesome, they also taste good!

My book idea is Hot Tub Apologies. When I bought a hot tub the summer before last, I knew all of my extended circle of friends would want to come over and use it, but I didn't realize the extent to which their epic misconduct would lead to me being on the receiving end of apology note after brutal apology note...Thanks so much for having us over. I'm sorry we got so drunk. I'm sorry I peed off the side. I'm sorry I kept trying to take off so-and-so's trunks. Sorry I flashed your neighbors. Sorry I splashed your cat. Sorry, sorry, sorry. But we had a great time. See you next weekend...It'd be fun to create a pic to illustrate each example of aquatic moral abandonment to correspond with the words of regret.
Southern Right Whale Dolphin, Coolest Looking Dolphin in the World
by Alexis C. Madrigal
I’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of dolphins, mostly on two lucky trips out into the Monterey Bay. They were primarily common and bottlenose dolphins, the standard representatives of Delphic civilization in my mind. While beautiful, those animals look nothing like the southern right whale dolphin (Lissodelphis peronii), which looks like an orca whale mixed with an Infinity and a yinyang. The Blue Planet Society tweeted this photograph of one taken by Pablo Caceres off the coast of Valparaiso, Chile. This is one glorious-looking animal.

Grizzly Bear Cub, Alaska
Photo and text: Douglas Croft
This yearling cub was “fishing” with his mom at Brooks Falls, Alaska. Mostly, he was getting in her way. Suddenly he became quite agitated and ran from the water and into a tree right next to the viewing platform where we were standing. It provided the best photo op of our trip.

Most Adorable Endangered Creature Ever?
We’re saddened to learn that the alien-looking Axolotl salamander (Ambystoma mexicanum), aka Mexican walking fish or Mexican water monster, is seriously threatened with extinction because of habitat destruction and water pollution. One of the coolest things about Axolotl - apart from their appearance - is they ability to regenerate most body parts. Read on for more details and photos…
