My name is Ren, I use he/xe pronouns, and I'm the only mod of this account. This account is dedicated to people with body focused repetitive behaviors, or bfrbs. I have trichotillomania and dermatillomania. i've also dealt with onychotillomania in the past.
Bfrbs are patterns of behavior characterized by repeated, uncontrolled, and typically painful stimulation with one's body. These include:
Followed you then forgot what the acronym stood for and so never knew that most likely every time I got the occasional notif that you posted, I was picking at my skin at that very moment (ocd-based dermatillomania)—yes, even this time too
Finding this blog was so eye opening for me, just last night I was so obsessively picking at acne all over my body to the point of bleeding and scarring and just feeling so out of control of it, I didnt know this was an actual thing and I think that it may help me to know that, at least mental health wise
welcome to demigender-culture-is! i'm molly, tyler, robyn or slushii (she/they, @live-through-thiss) and i have been running this blog since july 2021, during the inital influx of culture-is blogs. although i do not post often, i do try to keep this blog active.
before i delve into the most well known demigender terms, i want to point out other active culture-is blogs for anybody who wants to find them! (if you want to be added, removed or untagged, please let me know!)
note that you can identify as any demigender regardless of your assigned gender at birth.
i am putting the identities under a read more because it is a lengthy section of this post. at the very bottom i have included some sources that i used, for if anyone would like to read more about these :)
demigender
feeling partially, but not fully, like any gender. demigender and deminonbinary share the same flag, although there are some variants of the deminonbinary flag, one of which i will post with the deminonbinary explanation. the flag was created by deactivated blog @/transrants.
demigirl
feeling partially, but not fully, like a girl/woman. both flags were created by transrants.
demiboy
feeling partially, but not fully, like a boy/man. both flags were created by transrants.
deminonbinary
feeling partially, but not fully, nonbinary/enby. as stated earlier, demigender and deminonbinary share the same flag. deminonbinary has a few variants, including the second flag below. both flags were created by transrants.
demiagender
feeling partially, but not fully, agender. the first flag was made by enbygsrd, while the second was created by goatsjourney.
demigenderqueer
feeling partially, but not fully, like a gender outside of the man/woman binary. it is unknown who designed this flag.
demifluid
someone whose gender is partially fluid with the other part(s) being static. both flags were created by the deactivated blog @/pride-flags-for-us.
demiflux
someone whose gender partially fluctuates with the other part(s) being static; this differs from 'demifluid' as '-flux' indicates that one of the genders is neutral. it is unknown who designed this flag.
sources:
pages i used for many reasons, such as for flags, definitions, and oldest known information about certain identities.
the demigender page on the nonbinary wiki, which also shows variants of a few demigender flags, and lists some notable people (both in real life and in fiction) who use any of the identities listed above. (nonbinary wiki link)
the nonbinary wiki also has a gallery of demigender flags. (nonbinary wiki link)
the lgbtqia wiki has also compiled some demigenders. i used these as partial sources too. (lgbtqia wiki link)
the demiboy, demigirl and deminonbinary flags. though i did find these in my other sources, i am linking the post here because transrants, the creator of the demiboy and demigirl flags, has since deactivated, though druxydeity, who made the deminonbinary flag, is still active. (tumblr post link)
five demigender definitions from 2014. the nonbinary wiki used this as a source in some instances. (web archive link)
finally, @pride-color-schemes has made some posts on demigenders with their alternate flags; demigender, demigirl, demiboy, deminonbinary, demifluid, demiflux and demigenderqueer.
the lgbtqia and nonbinary wikis have brief history sections and plenty of sources of their own as well :)
bfrb culture is sometimes getting hair stuck in the pad of your finger after pulling; as if it were a hand that was stuck into a wall and perfectly slid through the gaps between the atoms
bfrb culture is shaving your whole head to stop yourself from cutting it all off (despite having wanted it long for years to no avail) and STILL feeling like you absolutely have to "fix" it with the scissors. i don't understand why i do this.
bfrb culture is not realizing the stuff you’ve been doing for forever (ripping my cuticles, biting my nails, picking scabs) was actually a coping mechanism but after becoming aware of it it’s suddenly made the urges worse? :(
