Wait. Do jobs really not advertise the salary they're going to pay you? Is that what things are like in the states??

When you apply/interview here in the US, some jobs give a starting rate while others give a vague pay range and try to lowball you.

It might vary somewhat state to state, but at least where I'm living, employers have a lot of liberty to make vague offers, fire you at any time without needing a reason, or refuse to hire union members.

They depend on enough people being scared to negotiate for fear of not getting a job or for fear of losing the job they have, from min wage fast food all the way up to white collar career workers. It's pretty fucked over here.
