just finished watching The Talented Mr Ripley for the first time and my. what an unsettling viewing experience. also, the scenic visuals made me yearn for a time when Italy's cities were not overrun by tourists

today marked two weeks until my final exam of the session (and the one I'm most nervous about, for a number of reasons), which is usually when my brain enters panicked countdown mode, but the day's studying is done, time to take the dog for a little walk and then unwind a bit
greatly enjoying how colour-coded my current reads are 📚
Depiction of a compositor, printers and booktrader in La grant danse macabre des hommes & des femmes printed by Mathieu Huss (Lyon, 1499), the oldest known depiction of a print shop.
Sylvia Plath, from a letter to Gordon Lameyer written c. July 1954, featured in Selected Letters
my copy of the Cambridge Companion to the History of the Book came in the mail today and I'm atingle about it, been wanting to get my hands on it for a while!
What are you reading rn, why are you reading it, and what format are you reading it in (physical book, ereader, on your phone etc)
im like an older person but younger
Person who has read a book and maybe taken a college course or listened to a podcast episode: oh yeah I’m a real History buff I know everything about this field
Person who focused on it in undergrad: yea I’m a bit of an expert on that field; it was my major
Person who has done at least some graduate level work on the topic: yeah I specialize in [subsubfield]
Person with over a decade of focused study on the topic, at least partially in an academic setting: here is an in-depth powerpoint highlighting everything I don’t know about my field with footnotes and a bibliographic essay
made a little miniature of the library I work at as a goodbye gift to my colleagues because my last shift is next week, was a nice distraction from exam season worries and this abysmal heatwave

home from a scandinavian weekend visiting friends and reminiscing about past lives and feeling particularly appreciative of what I have now. last week of work shifts means bittersweet transitions but a brief respite to look forward to dedicating to other pursuits. an exam I maybe care about too much in less than a month that I need to zero in on. lots to do, lots to reflect on, lots all around
