your last ally in all the city-states is an elf who would unironically lick the sweat from your armpits in front of the entire congregation. he begs his dad to let you couch surf. one of his brothers admits to your face that he wished you would die
two members of the swiss guard arrest your children so you punch them in the neck until the judge says you're free to go. the pope personally calls you to apologize for the trouble
ilberd tries and fails to hotbox you to death
a hot elf wife takes you on vacation to a nest full of cool bugs
anytime there's a serious moment estinien challenges the tone of the scene by pulling a giant novelty eyeball out of his pants which is played 100% straight every single time. not a single soul questions this or reacts in surprise
I laughed for waaaaayy too long when this happened.

1) Put four pills on each side. The heavier side has the pill. Take the four pills from the heavier side.
2) Put two of the potential pills on each side of the scale. The heavier side has the poison pill.
3) Take the two potential pills. Swallow one. If you survive, you are holding the poison pill. If you die, you have eaten the poisoned pill. Either way you will find out which one it is for sure
1) Weigh 6 of them, 3 on each side 2a) If both sides are equal, weigh the 2 you didnât use before. 2b) If one side was heavier, pick 2 of the 3 and weigh them. Heavier one is poisoned. If theyâre even, itâs the 3rd.
Well, all I can say is that we all have our methods and some of us are more willing to take a risk in the name of science
Kaladin colored + shaded sketch page for @/theknightartorias
It's alright Dalinar, babe, he got this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- image description: A loosely scribbled and coloured comic page with several panels in four rows of the scene in Words of Radiance in which Kaladin joins the duel in the arena. The background in the panels is painetd very patchily implying the seats of the arena with half roofs offering shadow from the sun above. The first row has two panels, on the left we see an agitaed Dalinar, in his blue uniform with gold and white trimmings, as he leans forward, hands on the wall of the dueling pit in front of him, calling out "What happened to us?", "Where is our honor?". A smaller speechbubble to the side contains the words "Honor is dead". The panel to the right depicts Dalinar looking to the side to see who gave that cynical commentary. Kaladin stands there not far behind him, also in captain's uniform holding his spear and looking very grim. The next row has two smaller and on medium sized panel, they all show Kaladin from the side in profile â as Dalinar would see him. He inhales like he is fortifying himself for what comes next. On the exhale he looks down into the arena with mix of resignation and determination and utters the words "But I'll see what I can do." The speechbubble for it is already in the next panel, in which Kaladin is gazing towards us with a mournful expression as he says "If this goes poorly, take care of my men."
The third and fourth row are both each one long horizontal panel. The third row shows Kaladin as he vaults himself over the wall in the foreground. Dalinar stares at him seeming very shocked. The panel in the last row is a top down view into the arena. Kaladin stands in front of six people, four of them Shardbearers in full plate all now turning towards him. On the far left is Relis in his black plate holding a big shardblade. Adolin kneels next to him in the sand of the arena holding his broken shoulder. To his right stand Elis with a shardhammer in a grey plate, then Adrobar in a orange one with a blade. Further to the right is Jakamav in his green plate and the king's blade, Renarin standing blade- and plateless next to him.
I think the first step towards the life you want is often to just say yes to more things. Accept that coffee invitation from your coworker even if it seems awkward. Sign up for that free class at the library that you're not sure you'll like. Join that club. Book that tour. Say yes to as many things as you can and kill the part of your brain that gut-reacts with a no.
Over the last couple years I adopted an informal policy of "If my reason for saying no is 'eh, that sounds like effort and what if I don't like it' then I should probably say yes."
It's been pretty great, is the outcome. I do weekend tennis with people, and bike riding with them and sometimes brewery visits and poker one time. I did a dodgeball league, and a pickleball league. I was going to a boardgame group for a period of time. I went skiing. I've been to a lot of concerts, and cool restaurants, I've seen old movies that weren't good but now I know about them. And I know so many people because when you go to things you meet friends-of-friends and if you say yes to cool things they're doing then you meet their friends-of-friends. People like it when you say yes to their invitations and come with your best self to see what they've put together.
And I've done a number of things which, in the end, I wasn't actually interested in and did not keep doing. But I can't really think of any things that I regret having tried.
I also want to add that usually I'm the sort of person who needs a 48-hour heads up for any change of plans, and like an additional 72 to process any invitation to something new.
So this is in fact about overriding that reaction. And sometimes overriding it hard.
And it's not a "yes" to everything. It's just trying to live with "yes" as the default answer.

You gotta read and watch some old books and films that arenât 100% modern politically correct. Iâm not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, theyâre not actually promoting bigotry so much as âdidnât consider all the implications of somethingâ or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.
my advice to everyone is to stop identifying with your mental illness or disorders. centering your identity around being unwell will inhibit you from reaching a destination where you are well.
Or maybe people are just trying to understand themselves better?
there is a strong difference between what i said and what you think i said
