do you ever see a long post by an acclaimed feminist media personality that's about like, why this or that tiktok trend is morally wrong, or celebrity drama, or a TV show or whatever, and then start thinking about how many of your gay or trans friends have dealt with like long-term food and/or housing insecurity because they can't work a conventional job and the fact that the state is constantly trying to remove every other option they might have to keep themselves alive, and the fact that these writers are aware that that is a thing that happens but they think of it as more of an abstract thing because they've never witnessed it firsthand so it's just not a priority to them. personally that is what weighs heaviest on my mind and it's hard for me not to view media or representation issues as comparatively trivial and generally resent the self-appointed representatives of my community who lack that perspective
