velle is a brown skinned (mexican? morrocan?) girl who is p short. she's really really snarky and is filled to the brim with shade. same age as nimbus. i want her to have a slight non-american accent too.
she has her hair dyed in seafoam green often. she says things like "LAUGHS AT U" and "squints" out loud while doing it at the same time. think like how you'd chat online, but saying them irl (she'd say abbreviations too.) VERY light, nimbus gives her piggyback rides all the time. likes being barefoot.
nimbus, nate and nat's little bro! he's actually blonde unlike nate who dyes his hair. he's also taller, wears his hair shorter, and is mute! drinks coca cola a lot and is a track and fielder. he prefers to text than to ASL, but he signs with velle all the time. he's a jerk, really. bring your gf/bf over and he'll try to embarrass you the whole time they're there.
he's around 5-6 years apart from the twins. 11-12 when the family moves to the US.
jhon is a filipino guy in his 20s who is probably the funniest guy i'll ever make. gets hurt when you spell his name as "john" and wails "thAT'S NOT MY NAME". gets drunk easily and confesses his undying love to a different girl every week. pretty confused about his own sexuality. he loves his mom a lot.
i plan on giving him a p sad backstory but ehhhh idk. i probably will just not make him THAT much of a loser.

and nate and jake are tight bros off the bat at hs so he invites jake over and when nat sees jake she's like "oh god a visitor" and when she's about to go back in her room jake's like "oh!! nate care to introduce me to your sister?" nat hates jake right off the bat
and they're conversations that day are weird
"so nat! how're you liking school? i mean you guys are new and all---"
"uh yeah it's ok---"
"but you shouldn't be intimidated!!!"
"ummm ok ha"

and then jake thinks it's impossible to hold a decent conversation with this girl they just both have a bad impression of each other at the start it's horrible
"uh yeah. thanks for having me you two take care now!" "sure man anytime!" and nat doesn't even say goodbye
but they have the same botany class (i don't have a reason good enough to make jake take botany but SHHH) and they're paired up for the groupwork and jake's like "shit i'm screwed" and nat is able to answer every question without missing a beat
and then after class jake's like "woah you were really good back there!" and nat's just "i just know the answers because i happen to like plants, it's no big deal" and they start talking more often and when jake visits it's not so awkward anymore
and jake starts to introduce her to people?? like she gains more friends little by little and then she opens up a lot more nate is surprised!!! and then nate's talking to jake in private "can i just say that she's never really acted like this? i've always tried to get her to open up but she never acted on it like she's doing now. thanks a lot man you helped out so much" and he leaves with zack (wink) and then jake goes to find nat and uh
nat's like "oh hey jake! what's up how are you doing today" and jake just realizes wow, she really did change a lot and he just replies with i'm good an they have a really nice conversation while jake walks her home
and once they reach the doorstep nat's like "you didn't really have to walk me home you know. it's not that far a distance" and jake waves it off and says "i'd walk you home as much times you want me to, really." and nat goes blank at that and jake's freaking out on the inside "shit that made me sound like i'm hitting on her" and nat says "uh yeah. see you tomorrow then jake"
jake just freaks out while walking because he just hit on a friend he worked so hard to open up he looks crazy to the people who walk by him
meanwhile nat's at home freaking out for a different reason "does that mean he likes me does that mean....i can confess now WAIT UH"
so yeah. uh long story short they have a misunderstanding and nat accidentally asks him out and jake's like "what/??? but ok you're a sweet girl anyway" so they date even though it's a little one sided but jake falls in love later i swear u3u
they end up in love with each other so much the end
jake and zack are like "fuck which one's nate? which one's nat?" and one of them just barks and growls at them and the other stays silent and Z and J look at each other and "angry one's nate."
jake lets nat run around the garden a lot and he thinks it's super cute omg but he can't let nat know that that's not manly at all

zack just watches nate crash his room like "dude can you even read while you're a dog." he carries nate onto his lap while zack indian sits and they both read a book. zack reads it out loud because he thinks nate can't read it, he just isn't saying so
gotta let a dog have his ego
"nate this is boring---" nate barks angrily, "--fiiiiiiiiine."
after that though nate falls asleep on his lap and zack just. pets him while trying to not smile
then they all come together and nat just barks and walks about nate and nate is just yawning.... babies......... and z and j are just "............. what if they stay corgis forever"
jake would freak out every time he shot a zombie like literally scream each time and zack's ears would ring a lot
nate kind of sleeps on the job so no one ever makes him keep watch. ever. when he's awake though he can kick ass
nat uses a shot gun because she's bad at precision. ZACK TAKES THEM OUT WITH A BASEBALL BAT. damn son. nate's a sniper
zack doesn't use his bat until he's sure no one's firing though. he doesn't trust jake out of all people
jake: WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'LL ACCIDENTALLY SHOOT YOU?
zack: i'm pretty sure you don't know the difference between me and a zombie.
jake: pffft. that's because there isn't any difference, doofus
then when the day is done they sit around a campfire and miss the good old days
sometimes they sing so they can get their minds off it
and tell each other jokes. there isn't much stories to tell because you know they've been with each other a lot and talking about dead friends doesn't really lighten up the mood, so they just talk about nonsense until they all pass out
"what if it reaches the point that everything becomes so hard that they run out of things to sing
or run out of people to sing with like the last person standing just sorta
sings alone" - ianna always makes me cry i hate her
so zack and nat are both alive, and jake and nate have passed
and then when zack gets bitten / gets too injured he puts his hand on nat's cheek and "shhhh. shh. i know. i'm sorry too."
"take care of yourself, okay? it's what we would've wanted."
and nat just wants to say so much, but instead she just says, "wait for me." zack smiles and he nods before he closes his eyes.
nat's the last one standing
and every day is just a scratch on the log by the campfire
and a reminder that she still hasn't joined them
but she still keeps herself alive because killing herself would just waste their efforts but it hurts her a lot
and she sings by herself in front of the campfire and in the middle of the song her voice cracks and she starts crying really hard
bUT SHE STILL SINGS IT
AND SHE DOESn'T CARE IF SHE'LL ATTRACT ATTENTION BECAUSE WHAT'S THE POINT IF EVERYONE'S ALREADY LEFT
AND SHE'S LIKE THE LAST PERSON AND THEY'RE WAITING FOR HER TO GO WITH THEM
AND THE SONG'S DONE AND SHE JUST KEEPS CRYING UNTIL SHE CAN'T AND SLEEPS AND HOPES THE ZOMBIES TAKE HER WHILE SHE'S OUT

i want zack to wear hipster glasses sometimes. maybe like they're reading glasses and he likes the specs taking up his whole vision, and then everyone's like "lol zack i thought you weren't one for the mainstream" "fuck off"
nate thinks it suits him though and he mumbles a thank you and jake snorts.
i've always wanted nate and zack to meet @ the school library like one day zack gets a book from the shelf and starts reading it and goes "what a lame book" and nate hears it on the opposite side of the bookshelf and he says through the hole zack made by getting that book and he says "this side of the shelf has better books, you know. i could show you around"
and then zack looks around him to see who said that
and then their convo goes on for a bit and zack goes "where are you?" and nate says "i think where i am is pretty obvious." and they talk while zack walks around the shelf to see who's talking and nate gets really nervous so he just walks while talking too to avoid meeting up and zack's thinking "motherfucker stay still"
and then zack gets tired of it and runs and cATCHES HIM AND HE SAYS SOMETHING COOL BY ACCIDENT AND NATE'S LIKE "woah he's pretty hot i wasn't prepared for this" and just stutters a lot after he sees his face
zack just thinks it's because maybe nate's not good with speaking with others face to face in general
nat likes plants because she can talk to them for hours and they wouldn't reply
like. nat likes to talk but she doesn't really care much for other people's opinions i think
shhhh there's always character development
and then when jake comes along planting just. becomes kind of lonely
she still loves her plants and she loves taking care of them but you know it's not really the same as having someone with you but she talks to them anyway because carbon dioxide
then when she experiences something really rough like a fight with parents she goes to her garden and she talks to them and for once she's glad they don't talk back because they lend an ear and that's all she needs at that moment
