My Big Fella always loved sitting on that tub 🥰 now Marley loves it
I’m so sorry to everyone who was excited about Big Fella’s momma’s new litter. I went to check on them this morning and the nest was destroyed. Something got in last night and took the babies. I am so so fucking sad.
I just wanted to let everybody know that Big Fella’s bunny mom has made a nest and given birth to a litter right in front of my house again. I will make sure she is able to feed them this year. I will not let my dogs scare her away. I will not take her babies. She feels safe here. Has lived right outside my house for years. I see her every spring and I always talk to her and talk her she’s safe here. I left spinach near the nest and she ate some of it. I love her. She reminds me of my little baby and the happiness he brought to my home.
I'm so sorry to hear about Big Fella. Please don't blame yourself. He had a more fulfilled and happy life with you than he would have on his own and I'm sure he was very happy and grateful to have you raise him. You're a very good pet parent and you obviously loved him very much. I'm sure his spirit is still with you.
Yes it makes me feel a bit better knowing that he was happy and he had a good life, as short as it was. I wish I had more time with him but I loved the time I had and I wouldn’t have changed it. Thank you for the support.
I'm so, so sorry. I wish there was something I could say to make it better, but I don't think there is. I'm here if you need a listener.
Thank you I appreciate the support in this difficult time
Big Fella was attacked last night
Last night (this morning) at 2am I heard something banging around outside and a guttural shriek. I knew something was wrong and I went out to check. So apparently a giant feral cat climbed the tree in front of my house and then jumped onto my balcony. It slaced the screen which surrounds the balcony and jumped in. As soon as I got outside the cat bolted but not before he got to my baby. Big Fella has a puncture wound below his eye and another in his ear. And he’s limping. I felt his leg and it doesn’t feel broken so I’m hoping it’s only pulled muscles in his shoulder. I am so worried and I don’t know what to do. I can’t take him to a vet because he’s an illegal pet and I’m pretty sure they’d take him away from me. I’ve locked him in his hutch for now with some food and water and towels so he can rest. I so hope it’s just a pulled muscle and he’ll heal quickly on his own. I love my baby so much I can’t handle this I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose him.
Update: called the vet in the area that treats exotic animals and they said they will treat him. They are aware he is an eastern cottontail and that he is a pet and not wild. I put some neosporin on the cut on his face and the hole in his ear. He’s guarding his front leg and still limping but he’s moved around his hutch a few times and has eaten a few pieces of cucumber, a couple blueberries, and some seeds. He’s sleeping now. If he’s not feeling a bit better tomorrow I’m going to take him to the vet. I’m hoping it’s just a muscle pull that will heal itself. He did that once before when he was really little.
Update: I’m fairly certain the injury is to Big Fella’s shoulder. I felt both of his legs and paws and they feel the same but he has swelling in his shoulder and is holding his own against his chest. I’m going to call in the morning to make an appointment for him on Wednesday at the exotic vet. He has eaten a bit but he hasn’t pooped and is still lethargic and skittish.
Okay; if he hasn’t managed to poop by tomorrow morning, try to get him appointment later the same day. GI stasis is a possibility because of the stress of being injured. You can massage his tummy to try and help ease things along, if he’ll let you.
@luckycavy117 he has let me massage his tummy so if he hasn’t pooped by morning I’ll try that again. He’s only let a couple pellets go since he got hurt. But that was last night, nothing today. But unfortunately the rabbit vet isn’t in the office on tuesdays and I’m in classes or traveling to or from the city for classes from 11am to 10pm. The only time I can bring him in is Wednesday.
Update: Big Fella succumbed to his injuries at 6:30am on October 1. He died in my arms. I wish I could’ve gotten him to a vet in time. I absolutely blame myself (and the cat that attacked him obviously) and I’m devastated. I’m sorry to all that were hoping he would recover. I wish I could tell you he will be fine. I love him so much and I can’t bring myself to bury him quite yet. I’ll probably delete this blog because it’s too painful.
Update: Big Fella has been buried in my front garden, wrapped in his favorite towel. He loved to spend hours scratching and biting and kicking at it. I miss him so much and I will love him forever.

Big Fella succumbed to his injuries at about 6:30 am this morning, October 1. I did all I could for him but there just wasn’t a vet available for him until tomorrow. I’m absolutely devastated and will most likely delete this blog because it’s too painful. I love him so much. I’m sorry for everyone else who loved him too.

This mother fucker just ate a live cidada head first. Then tore off the wings and chewed those up. Then the body... I thought rabbits were herbivores
